Do not use Expedia

I have been using Expedia for 14 years, used to be really reliable and user friendly.
However a few weeks ago, when I was trying to cancel a Qantas flight. I understand there's a $400 cancelation fee, I don't mind to pay it. But you know, Expedia treats me like a trash, for no reason I cannot cancel the flight on its App, so I called them ,they would ask me to hold the line for 20 mins, then just hung up or pretend they cannot hear me then just cut off. It happened like 10 times, so I emailed them, nothing they can do for me...so I talked to live chat a few times, it is just a nightmare, dispute you got to repeat the case, then they would ask me to hold on, relax, they were calling Qantas on their end, ridiculously they replied me that Qantas is not in business hours (at 11am Australia time), no one pick up the calls, please leave it to the Expedia team, they will reply me within 72 hours.
Well, it never happened, Expedia never cancel my flight, I believe they just wanted to keep my money.
So the last time I warned the live chat team, if not refund me within 24 hrs, I will report to ATIA and Customers Affairs. And it works, they said they successfully contacted Qantas, refund it's on the way.
I now have deleted Expedia App on my phone.
It's just too frustrating and wasting time to deal with them.

Policies over people!

Horrible experience having troubles overseas, they do not give a shit about your emergencies just their policies. When we got stuck with our hotel refusing to let us in, they did not care and said they can only provide a refund that would take longer than our entire trip! We were almost left to sleep on the streets if we hadn't called the police.

DID NOT RECEIVE THE SERVICE. REFUSED TO REFUND BASED ON INCORRECT CLAIMS AND PROCESSED REFUND AFTER WE PROVIDED EVIDENCES DISPROVING THEIR STATEMENTS. FULL REFUND OF LOSSES STILL NOT RESOLVED.

We did not receive a service that they advertised. They refused to refund based on incorrect claims and processed refund after we provided evidences disproving their statements. They refused to pay all the financial losses incurred as a result what appeared to be misleading advertising and misconduct from multiple agents leading to believe that this not an isolated case but a systemic.

A follow up from previous review.

A follow up from previous review.
It has now been over a week since I first contacted Expedia, and despite multiple promises that they are “waiting for the hotel to respond,” nothing has been resolved.

This booking was advertised as a 4–5 star hotel with facilities including a gym and spa. We discovered these facilities had been closed for years, yet they were still being used to market the property. Our room also had ripped bed sheets and no hot water, making the stay far below the standard that was advertised.

Expedia’s public response asks me to contact the Help Centre, but I have already done that several times. Instead of taking responsibility for a property that was misrepresented on their platform, they continue to delay while waiting for the hotel.

Customers book through Expedia because they trust the information on its website. When that information is inaccurate, Expedia should take responsibility and resolve the issue promptly rather than leaving customers in limbo.

I will update this review again once Expedia either resolves the matter or continues to avoid doing so.

Expedia took my money for a hotel booking. When I arrived at the hotel, it was closed. Expedia website is useless for explaining my situation. I sent an email to Expedia - no reply. I phoned the local Expedia number. There was so much background noise it sounded like the man was at a party. I was asked to hold the line for some time. My conversation with Expedia:
I booked for no payment until arrive at Z, Z have already taken out the first night's accommodation? This is false advertising from Expedia, I normally book through Booking.com and have just tried Expedia with this booking, very disappointed

REPLY from Expedia:
Typically, if a hotel intends to collect payment prior to check-in, this information is disclosed in the property's details or policies. Unfortunately, in this instance, that information was not indicated, and the hotel charged your card directly. I sincerely apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused.
As a gesture of goodwill and apology, I would like to offer 50 AUD in OneKeyCash to your account which cab be used for your future bookings.

Avoid booking flights through Expedia…

Avoid booking flights through Expedia at all costs. They will take your money instantly for bookings they cannot actually secure, lie to you about where your funds are, and hold your money hostage for weeks.
The Bait-and-Switch: I booked international flights, and within minutes, received an email stating they were unconfirmed. Yet, Expedia had already fully charged my credit card.
Told to Book Elsewhere: During my first hour-long call, the agent actually advised me not to rebook with Expedia and to book directly with another airline instead.
Blatant Lies & Buck-Passing: After seven days with no refund, a second agent claimed "VietJet has your money." This was a flat-out lie to dodge accountability, as I paid Expedia directly.
Abysmal "Support": I was cold-transferred to a supervisor who knew nothing about my case. I had to waste another two hours on the phone explaining everything again, only for him to admit Expedia did, in fact, still have my money.
The Bottom Line: Expedia takes your cash in seconds for services they can't provide, but expects you to wait weeks to get your own money back.
This company is a logistical nightmare. Book directly with the airlines and save yourself the headache.

Note to Expedia Customer Service: Do not reply to this review with your generic, copy-paste boilerplate response. I have absolutely zero interest in your robotic apologies or empty "we want to make this right" comments. Just process my refund.

⭐ - 0 Star – Absolutely terrible experience. Avoid booking flights through Expedia.

I booked international flights through Expedia, and within minutes of making the booking I received an email saying my flights were not confirmed. Despite this, Expedia had already charged my credit card.

I called Expedia immediately and spent almost an hour on the phone. The agent couldn't explain why the airline had not confirmed the booking and assured me my refund would be processed and returned to my bank account within three days. The agent suggested not to rebook with them and to book directly with another airline (Yes! These were the exact words of their agent).

Today marks seven days, and I still haven't received my money.

When I called again, another agent told me, "VietJet has your money and has processed the refund." That made no sense because I paid Expedia directly, not the airline. Expedia took the payment from my credit card, so they should be responsible for refunding it promptly.

I asked to speak with a supervisor. After being cold transferred, I had to explain my entire situation all over again because the supervisor knew nothing about my case. I then spent another two hours on the phone, only for him to eventually confirm what I already knew – the money was actually still with Expedia.

I requested written confirmation that my refund had been processed. Instead of simply sending it, the supervisor repeatedly asked me to check my email, almost implying I had missed it. I explained multiple times that the only emails I had received were:

confirmation that my booking was confirmed,
notification that the flights were not confirmed, and
a refund confirmation for the optional protection cover – not the airfare.

After another 15 minutes of waiting in silence, he finally sent the refund confirmation email.

To make matters worse, he then advised the refund would take another 5–7 business days to reach my account. So despite Expedia taking my money immediately for flights they couldn't provide, I am expected to wait weeks to receive my own money back.

As "compensation" for the hours I spent on the phone, the stress, and the inconvenience, Expedia offered me $100 in One Key credit. I found this insulting. I don't want store credit—I want my money returned promptly in the first place!

I am still waiting for my refund.

Based on this experience, I would strongly advise not booking flights through Expedia, no matter how attractive the price may seem. If something goes wrong, be prepared for poor communication, contradictory information, lengthy phone calls, and significant delays in getting your money back.

If my refund is not received promptly this time, I will be lodging formal complaints with the ACCC and ATAS, as I believe this handling of customer funds and refunds is unacceptable.

So I booked through a 3rd party Expedia for the 12th of July, searched and found Double Tree at a reasonable price. I called to ask for an early book in only to discover that Expedia had booked for the 19th. Hotel could not cancel so I managed myself. Asked to rebook only for the price to double. Found out afterwards that I would not be getting a refund!
Neither party will budge on this and so Double Tree Darwin had stolen money for no good reason. Would I recommend Double Tree or stay with them ever again no chance, same goes for Expedia, both are robbing bastards.

Shameful refund politics after cancelled flights

I booked a return flight to Singapore with Qantas through Expedia on 28 February 2026. The flight was cancelled as the aircraft had a fault that couldn't be repaired. For refunds with bookings through third parties it is necessary to ring Expedia. The procedure is for them to sort it with Qantas while they put you on hold. There were excuses why the issue couldn't be solved every time I rang and sometimes the connection was disconnected. With every agent I started at the beginning again. Until I eventually insisted to speak to a supervisor after weeks ( I suppose they have to see first how often you rang prior before they will pass you on). From here it was only two phone calls until the money was refunded on July 4th - now this is 205 minutes on the phone and 10 phone calls altogether, plus hours spend on the written report with documents requested from Expedia!! It took 4 months. They make the process difficult on purpose and obviously hope you will give up. There should be a law to ban this sort of behaviour!

If I could give it minus stars I would. Don't ever, ever use Expedia. I booked fully refundable flights and I have spent nearly 4 weeks trying to cancel them, still with no results. I have made over 10 calls, lasting on average 30 to 60 minutes each, sent numerous emails, even went on the live chat. They keep saying they have to get their ticketing department to handle it, but they won't give me a contact so I can message with them direct. What's even more under handed, is that on 2 occasions, I get a call that rings once, and then hangs up. This is so Expedia can say it has called me, when in fact they have no intention of speaking to me. It's just so they can avoid cancelling the flights and refunding me my money. Their service is disgraceful, and their business is dishonest and even illegal.

GO THROUGH ANYONE ELSE!!!!!!!

The pricing is competitive but don't be fooled! If anything goes wrong in your trip or you need to make changes, their customer support team is one of the worst, if not the worst I've ever dealt with. They invented policies that didnt exist to try to keep our money, made it nearly impossible to rebook flights with credits and added stipulations that simply don't exist such as, you must FLY by X date, you must book the same destination flight and tried to add hidden charges at checkout. The airline's policy clearly stated it has to be BOOKED within the year but the travel date can be after the fact and destinations can definitely change. The customer service team truly don't know how to do anything, will just transfer you from person to person to person and then hang up and blame a technical fault. We made 7 attempts at rebooking flights and came up against "sorry, we can't book right now, technical problem" after over an hour. They have a flight credit allocation on their website which they refused to allocate to us and forced us to call them up every single time despite the intense level of incompetancy and admittance to not being able to do certain things.
Book direct or through any other service. Expedia is absolutely horrific, now. They used to be great, before they sold out to offshore help who can't speak English and created their own rules to benefit them, changing with every phone call. What an absolute scam.

To add one more thing. We needed to cancel the hotel, Expedia refused. The hotel directly, had no problem at all despite Expedia saying, we've tried, we've tried, the hotel just won't do it. The hotel refunded us in 10 minutes.

A false "prepayment" for a hotel reservation

Expedia charged my bank account for a "prepayment" on my hotel reservation. I booked through Hotels.com, and they are part of Expedia. There was nothing in the confirmation email about a prepayment. It clearly stated free cancellation by the evening before the reservation, and absolutely nothing was stated about any prepayment. I cancellation the reservation the day after the booking and then realized the prepayment charge to my bank account later that day. After spending hours and hours on the phone, and speaking to a supervisor, I was told they have no record of Expedia charging my account. The "supervisor" found the charge and tried to blame the hotel. I did contact my bank and filed a dispute. I was told that Expedia is responsible for the incorrect charge because Expedia clearly charged my account, not anyone else. My bank has been very helpful and and informed me that they deal with booking sites, like Expedia, all day long. I learned the hard way to NEVER book a hotel reservation through any booking agency. Expedia lied repeatedly, even though they had a screenshot of the charge to my bank account, the initial reservation and cancellation, which does not require any prepayment.
My bank is handling this, and it will get resolved through them. Never, ever go through Expedia, which includes Hotels.com, Vrbo, and other sites. It was a complete nightmare!
