Do not book through Expedia. It is not worth it there are other sites you could save with Expedia wanted to offer me 20% after I canceled my two night stay at the Baymont by Wyndham. I was never compensated for paying 200 dollars and because I left I paid another 200 to book at a much nicer hotel with a working tv and heating system. Expedia told me there was nothing that they could do but offer me 20%key cash.

Extremely disappointing experience with Expedia. I canceled a hotel reservation within minutes of booking, yet was still charged over $500 due to a “non-refundable” policy.
What’s frustrating is not just the policy, but the complete lack of support. I contacted Expedia immediately, and there was no attempt to help, escalate, or even consider the timing of the cancellation. It felt like the company was hiding behind rigid rules instead of trying to resolve a reasonable situation.
When you book through a third party like Expedia, you expect some level of customer advocacy. Instead, they simply passed responsibility to the hotel and offered no real assistance.
I attempted to resolve this directly before posting this review, but received no meaningful help. This experience has made me lose trust in using Expedia. Booking directly with hotels seems like a far safer option.

Very difficult to get refunded for what we paid for seats for a flight that the airline cancelled. On the phone for hours with no result. Very frustrating & poor customer service!
Car rental scam via Expedia
We booked our holiday car rental via Expedia for Economy car rental, paid 326.80 USD which included 77 USD rental car protection plus plan. When we arrived to location, the company demanded us to pay additionally 509 USD for 4 days…. It was awful, we have lost 3 hours investigating and nothing was compensated, no car no anything. Their customer support was useless! In the end totally tired and exhausted had to buy plane tickets, no car, and they did not return us the whole amount! Not speaking about the frustration and ruined holiday,,,! We are really disappointed, as we were loyal customers of Expedia for more than 8 years, and we are shocked they partner with scammers!!!!

What should have been a simple process - logging into my account, managing a booking, and using an existing airline credit - turned into days of effort and hours of frustration. Instead of a smooth experience, I encountered a broken system, conflicting information, and deeply unhelpful customer service.
The issue was trying to use a $197 airline credit with Southwest Airlines. The website wouldn’t apply the credit correctly, so I reached out to customer service multiple times. Each time, I received different and contradictory answers:
~One agent said I couldn’t combine the airline credit with One Key cash rewards.
~Another told me to contact the airline directly.
~Several agents insisted I had to upgrade my ticket just to use the credit—a requirement that appears nowhere in the airline’s policy or on Expedia’s site.
I was repeatedly told this was “airline policy,” but no one could provide written proof.
Even after I gave exact flight details multiple times, agents searched for the wrong flights, quoted incorrect prices, and brought up unrelated airlines. At one point, I spent nearly two hours on a single chat just trying to book a basic flight using my credit.
The whole experience felt disorganized and, at times, misleading and extremely frustrating. I was trapped in a loop between a malfunctioning website and customer service reps who couldn’t offer consistent or accurate help.
To summarize:
~The account system fails when trying to use a credit (I have a screen recording as proof).
~Airline credits are nearly impossible to use online.
~Customer service gives inconsistent, often incorrect information.
~Simple tasks require excessive time and effort.
What was once a convenient platform has become frustrating and unreliable and customer service is an oxymoron. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend using Expedia.
Expedia Rep got me to cancel my ticket incorrectly
My name is Said, I had reserved a flight from Miami to Bolivia on January 28. I called support later on asking if I can cancel, and if I do , would I get credit. I was told I would. so I cancelled my flight.
It tool me several calls later to demonstrate that I have credit AND get them to email me a confirmation of the credit.
I called 3 months later to use my credit. Support repo didn't see my credit, she tried to over-sell me a ticket that is more expensive than a new ticket AND when we finally found a flight with a decent price. she collected my information and payment, and assured me I will get a confirmation email soon. It never arrived.
I am currently on the line with another agent trying to figure this out.

1. Do not understand the air line policies, and give poor advice due to their lack of comprehension.
2. Have poor mechanism to track customer prior tickets.
3. take too much time to get things right, and most of the time they get it wrong.

I booked my trip through expedia to cancun. I paid an upcharge for a beachfront room, only to arrive and find out expedia only communicated to the resort that I booked an oceanview. When I contacted expedia, they said their records showed I booked a beachfront oceanview. There was a clear distinction on their website between the rooms. I researched this trip for a year. I am absolutely certain I paid for a beachfront. Even the resort has a clear distinction between beachfront and oceanview. Expedia did me dirty. They ruined my trip and stole money from me. I will NEVER book through expedia for anything ever again. I will tell every person I come into contact with to never use expedia. You lost a customer and all for what - $200. So sad how I was treated and suckered out of the money I paid to have the beachfront. You should be ashamed. You lost my business FOREVER.

I booked a flight from Cancun to San Francisco through Expedia with a connection via El Salvador. During the booking process, I was not clearly informed about a mandatory and extremely high transit fee required due to my nationality.
When I arrived at the airport to check in, I was told I had to pay approximately $2300 USD as a mandatory transit fee in order to board the flight. This was completely unexpected and not something I was prepared for financially.
I was traveling with my two children (ages 8 and 11), which made the situation even more stressful and difficult. At that point, I had no choice but to pay the fee in order to continue my journey.
While Expedia later provided a small goodwill refund of $200, they stated they could not do anything further. The support felt very limited considering the severity of the unexpected cost, and there was no meaningful resolution offered for such a significant issue.
Overall, the main concern is the lack of transparency regarding this mandatory fee at the time of booking. A $2300 additional cost is not minor, and it fundamentally changes the real price of the itinerary.

Sad how this has turned into a borderline fraud site. Twice now they have refused to refund me by saying they can't get in touch with the hotel. I called their bluff the second time (long story) and still they refused to refund me. Finally I disputed the charge with the credit card company and that seemed to be the only way to get them to refund it. The case was pretty clear-cut (services not rendered) but this tactic seems to be part of their MO now. Please stay away

Step one: actually finding a way to contact Expedia support. Their platform buries every path to a human behind a maze of self-service loops and dead ends. Getting to a phone number or live chat feels deliberately designed to make you give up. It's a claw machine, not a help desk.
Step two: the call itself. I finally reached a representative named Ahmed and explained the issue — one of my two rooms was missing the meal voucher I'd selected during booking. He didn't understand. I explained it again, more slowly. Still nothing. He put me on hold to "check with the hotel." Ten minutes later, he came back to proudly inform me that the hotel had confirmed we were checked in.

Expedia's entire value proposition is that they make travel booking easier than doing it yourself. But when something goes wrong — even something minor — there is no support. There is no accountability. There is just a wall of friction designed to exhaust you into walking away.

Devastated elderly parents.
My parents always wanted to go to Hawaii. They are in their 70s but it was so expensive. Finally this year they was able to go April 9 -13th 2026. We booked through Expedia a hotel and the experience was terrible. My mom is in a wheelchair and Hawaii was under national disaster watch flooding and volcano issues. She even got the insurance from Expedia. Tried to cancel but because my mom accidentally booked a non refundable room they refused to refund our money. They stated hotel refused. Called hotel it was all on Expedia, they lied. Ended up losing 1500 dollars. Tried to push trip back to a later date. Expedia wanted to charge 600 dollars more for cancellation and fees. Tried for almost two weeks before to cancel. My mom is in a wheelchair couldn’t go there and something happen to her or my dad. Due to flooding. So inconsiderate. Absolutely horrible experience working with suxpedia, especially for businesses now. Without proper info for guests provided, you are causing checkin and contact issues with guest, causing horrible reviews for businesses who now cannot contact guests as needed. Absolutelybhorrible for business and extremely insafe for both guests and businesses for us to now get zero info on our guests, also causing us to cancel reservations immediately when pay wont go through instead of contacting the guests.
