Flooring is exactly what we wanted but returns not so good

Flooring is exactly what we wanted, they have a good range and it was delivered quickly. I am just disappointed with the Returns. We have extra and it is too expensive to keep. You have to organise your own courier to return it (even when I suggested we buy another product and when it gets dropped off we return the extra). This is working out very expensive! So basically, good service and product apart from Returns, get your order right and if you have any left over you will be better off keeping them. Unfortunately we don't need the left overs. There are other online floor retailers offering free returns (if only I had known).

Buyer Beware--Under New Ownership/Management

Buyer Beware – Factory Direct Is Under New Ownership

I chose Factory Direct based on years of positive reviews, not realizing the business changed ownership in 2024. Those old reviews no longer reflect the current management. Before hiring them, check their Better Business Bureau rating.

Factory Direct is now run by Dan Gregory. I hired him for a $17,000 flooring job. Without telling me (which violates Idaho Code 45-525, section 3a), Dan subcontracted the work to someone who turned out to be unlicensed, unregistered, and a fugitive with a violent criminal history.

This subcontractor was dishonest, took over 3 weeks to complete a 4-day job, and did poor work:

Skipped the $600 foam pad underlayment I paid for
Didn’t install the $150 toe kicks
Skipped caulking around toilets and sinks
Floored over the crawlspace, making it inaccessible
Now, my floors pop and shift due to improper installation.

I asked Dan to inspect the issues. Under Idaho’s Notice and Opportunity to Repair Act (Statute 6-2503), he was required to respond in writing within 21 days. He didn’t. Instead, he blamed me, falsely claiming I told the subcontractor to skip the pad.

A year later, nothing is fixed, and I haven’t been refunded for the missing items—over $800. I’ll likely have to sue to get any compensation, as Dan refuses to take responsibility or follow Idaho consumer protection laws.
