Awful. Disrespectful. A company who doesn’t care about its staff.
Worked at five guys Leicester city centre for around a year in 2015 and literally all the money in the world could not get me back there.
Extremely unsociable hours, no one cared if I could get home easily at 1/2am as long as I was doing closes. As I didn’t drive, there are no buses at that time and it’s unfair to rely on people picking you up all the time I told them I’d only do 2 a week.
I had 3 lots of different managers in the time I was there, each one got worse. People would go on breaks and never come back to their shift, aswell as never actually turning up again. They’d just decided to quit there and then.
Training staff would come from other stores to teach new staff members and were useless. One of them was very touchy feely with all the girls and asking if they’d like to go back to his hotel room after work. This same person physically harmed me leaving me bruised for about 3 weeks and all that happened was a chat with the manager at the time. No real consequences for him.
Shift patterns were ridiculous, I would be on the way, after paying for a bus, only to find out that my shift had changed to start hours later, or completely removed. I only found this out due to checking the rota, no communication from them to let me know. I had someone drop me off for a shift another time and after clocking in I ended up clocking out all of 7 minutes later because they had too many staff on so didn’t need me, and others. They didn’t have the decency to let any of us know this.
Morning shifts were also sometimes finished early as it wouldn’t be busy enough for us all so after prepping the food for the day, and having to wake up at 4am just to get there, they’d send you home at opening time.
During late night closing shifts the managers would clock staff out early to save time when we were all done. However this meant our full hours weren’t logged so missed out on pay. If you were actually finished early you still had to hang around for ages while everyone else was still cleaning because there were too slow. Could never give an actual time to be picked up as you never knew if that would be right. Most of the time it was late. I’d have someone waiting to pick me up for at least half hour outside in the middle of town early hours of the morning.
By the time I decided enough was enough, I was literally the only English person working there. All the other staff members, other than managers were foreign and family so just spoke to each other in their own language. I’d be spending hours working in a place I hated, with no one to actually talk to.
My hands pretty much got destroyed as they always put me on washing up at the end of the day. Using harsh chemicals so often and not having any gloves to protect my skin, I ended up with dry and itchy patches all on the back of my hands which ended up getting worse to the point of being red raw, sore and bleeding. No one cared or did anything to help. Yet again only when I refused to wash up did this stop.
Eight years later my hands still flare up and can get really bad (diagnosed contact dermatitis). I never had this issue before working there and it’s not curable, all I can do is keep treating it everytime it flares up. I’ve got to live with it for the rest of my life.
I could say even more. Overall the whole time I worked there I was treated like absolute rubbish. Managers were awful and selfish. Five guys do not care about their staff one tiny little bit. They have no respect and have no interest in your health and safety. My experience proves that.
The worst experience i ever had!!!
The worst experience i ever had!!!
The OVERPRICED food for no reason is the biggest issue. I had a bacon cheeseburger and the bacon was so cooked until become a piece of carton. The dryest fries i ever eaten. I asked for a bottled coca cola because i was on my bike, and for the price of 2.60£ i get the warmest coca cola i ever tasted(i could get it 20ft away from the shop with 1.29£ cold as ice, but i was thinking that i wil get it cold as ice...).
For anybody in Leicester who want a good burger with the best fries ever with some nacho cheese on top and a ice-cold coca cola, go on Narborough Road at Rockin' Dinner and you will have your best experience ever and you won't feel robbed at all.
I kind of regret even give it a try to see why they are ucking charging that ucking money for that ucking pieces of trash!!!!
