I've used Fortress on and off for over 30 years and they used to be great, with helpful, experienced locksmiths who were able to explain the pros and cons of various options to a layperson. Those peop... See more

Total ripoff

Total ripoff. Google should take this company off the search list or put warning next to them.
Had to use this company two nights ago. When I asked them on the phone how much the charge was they were very vague. They said it depends on the lock but it starts from £39.
The guy arrived 2 hours later. Didn’t even use any tools just some piece of hard plastic to unlock one lock. It took him less than 5 minutes but he charged me £240. There wasn’t even any picking of the lock like I imagined locksmith would be able to do and would do.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

HORRIFIC RIP OFF

Horrific. I locked myself out of the house this evening. I called Prestige Locksmiths and Fortress Locksmiths turned up. I was charged £663 to break my Yale lock and fit a new one. I really wish I had not panicked because it was late at night and had taken time to read reviews before phoning someone.

Would give no stars if possible

Would give no stars if possible. £418 for a single point lock on a front door which took 15 mins to fit and I will replace tomorrow as its not secure.

£49 call out £79 for the labour (it took 15 mins as above) and £220 for a circa £15 single point closing mechanism as the original lock and catch were not changed. Add the VAT and you get to the £418.

DO NOT USE THESE OR PRESTIGE LOCKSMITHS 24HRS who are the agents for these.

avoid - dishonest and rip off

Not only was I told that to change a lock for the meter reading outside the flat, it would cost a maximum of £100-125, which was totally dishonest as the bill came to £267, but the lock is not working. I called and had to deal with someone who was not willing to listen and was shouting, and then he hung up. I would recommend avoiding this company, as they will totally mislead you and not provide you with a good result. I wish I had read the previous and that my review will help at least other people

Workmanship was fine but I was quoted…

Workmanship was fine but I was quoted far below the actual cost, £200 quote and actual cost £400. I was told I would have a selection of locks and costs but I did not. I would not have paid nearly £300 for a lock if it's have the choice. Poor show Fortress team, you used to be better!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Spent over £1000 for repairs and replacement. The lock broke within a year. Warranty is only 6 months! Others are one years. Go somewhere else

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

A one-minute job cost me £244, demonstrating a high level of skill in persuading people to pay when they have no other choice.

Horrific Company

Horrific Company. DO NOT USE!

I sent the company an email yesterday. Quoted £1300 to remove and replace a lock after a stuck front door. I sent the locksmith away but I was still charged £495 for breaking the door lock. The locksmith took 30 minutes to complete a job which should have taken 1 minute. Ive emailed the company and will take this to trading standards without a reasonable response.

Do NOT use this company their Locksmith…

Do NOT use this company their Locksmith came on Sunday to repair the locked door. He could not fix the lock and said he needs some parts and will get it on Monday. I trusted him and paid £58.50 call out for unfinished job. Spoke to him on Monday and said he will call me when h got the parts. He never called me back and when I contacted his office she said we charge call out regardless of we can fix the lock or not. Nobody dose that if the locksmith can not fix the lock there is no call out charge. This company is crook DO NOT USE THEM.

Much more expensive than quoted- takes advantage

Called UK Fortress Locksmiths Ltd on Sunday early evening as couldn’t open the door. Was quoted £85 call out plus materials. Nice guy arrived 1 hour later and did the job in less than 15 minutes, but said the call out fee was £120 plus £150 to drill out the lock plus £65 for a new lock plus £65 to fit the new lock plus 20% VAT - a total of £486 to get in my house. I was expecting about £160 based on what they told me on the phone

Overpaid £1,390 excess

Got ripped off big-time for a door to be boarded up after a smash up. Charged £1,890 around 11pm when it should have been £500. Sad thing is Metropolitan Police gave me their number. They shouldn't be encouraging this shocking extortion

Absolute rip-off

Absolute rip-off. Full price not advised in advance. When known I as the landlord instructed him not to proceed over the phone. He did anyway. Took my tenants card and processed the payment without giving her a choice. £316 at 6:30pm for a few minutes drilling through the lock and also putting a hole in my woodwork in the fire door. Never use these crooks. Both my young female tenants were extremely distressed by the experience.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! We are the latest in the long line of people to get ripped off. Our elderly neighbour let herself into our house to water our plants while we were on holiday and the lock broke. She phoned these jokers to fix it. The shameless scammers charged £135 for a lock you can buy in Screwfix for a tenner and extortionate labour costs for a job I could (and have in the past) done myself in 10 minutes. Result: a bill for over £600 simply to change a barrel lock. SOMEONE SHOULD SHUT THESE GUYS DOWN. In the meantime, please find decent-minded professionals instead of these cowboys.

Avoid!

This company are part of Prestige Locksmiths 24h.co.uk, they even have the exact same website but change the logo depending on which one you click and the have multiple numbers. Total scammers, whilst the technician/customer contact seemed genuine they will fully take advantage of your situation and leave a hefty bill. Avoid!!!! Wish there was a way to stop people like this.

Do not use this company..

Do not use this company... We were unfortunate enough to be locked out, with our 2y.o. out in the rain, with 3 different numbers from other companies already tried so we were desperate at this point as this was the only company taking our call. They came on a dodgy car, wanted to drill the lock straight away, managed to stop them from doing it, still managed to open the door easily (imagine if they drilled the door) then charged us £400! just dont fall for this scam always check these reviews

Fortress Locksmiths are rip-off…

Fortress Locksmiths are rip-off artists. My daughter lock herself out of our place and we called them to assist confirming over the phone we did not require the lock replaced just the door opened.

They took advantage of her being a young adult and drilled the lock and were going to replace it despite us telling them we didn't want it replaced. They disclosed their call out fee but failed to mention their labour rate forcing my daughter to pay over 250 pounds.

They left a mess which they didn't clean up. Don't use them - they are con artists.

Just a word of warning

Just a word of warning. Never ever use these people. To my parents misfortune they charged them £260 for coming to a broken patio lock and then wanted to charge to fix it!!!
You call then then send someone under another company name. (Found out they have 3 different names ) Its only then that you find the reviews that say they are a scam - every single one.
I am horrified people can get away with this. I phoned them after they charged my 80 year old dad. No feeling what so ever ‘we can charge what we like’ was a response. What vulnerable person is going to challenge a stranger.
By the time id got there he was gone.
If you Google locksmiths Northampton they are the first company to come up and its a sponsored site. It looks reputable of the face of it but don’t be fooled like I was.
I would hate anyone else to have this. People like this are scum.

Avoid this company like the plague

Please , please , please do not use this company. They have just charged my parents nearly £3,000 to board up a patio window and fit a new yale lock after they were burgled. They charged £700 for 2 pieces of board for the window ! We now know the work should have been no more than £500. Reading other reviews they are obviously comfortable ripping off elderly and vulnerable people
