Foxtons were eager to get the property up for sale. After that communication and feedback were poor

I worked at foxtons for over a year and…
I worked at foxtons for over a year and can say this is the worse place to work. You are just a number to them and they do not value employees. Every Friday you had to read your figures out infront of everyone, and I believe this is used so they can push u to work harder and if you haven’t performed it’s a sense of embarrassment. The managers do not care about your well being, they simply just want u at ur desk like a robot dialling out. Another colleague of mine had a leg injury and was in hospital and could not walk and was told to catch an uber to work. Others that have problems at home are always told leave family issues or whatever it may be at home and get to work. I can go on. They simply do not value you. The rewards you get for all your hard work is a chocolate bar from a bowl after you hit the red buzzer. The trips they host is the same people every time as the leader board will never change so really there is no incentive. For the pay you get for the hours you put in is far too low. The place mentally drains you. Would not recommend.
AVOID
AVOID! My year contract is up and land lady doesn't want to renew. Foxtons are trying to charge me an extra months rent after my contract ends and 11% commission because i'm 'terminating' the contract even though we have given a month's notice as per any contract - pretty sure this is illegal given renters rights bill (advice welcome) but in short, these guys are con artists and should be investigated. Dont ever rent from them as a renter or a landlord/lady.
More dissatisfaction with Foxtons
More dissatisfaction with Foxtons. I am faced with making a complaint to The Property Ombudsman. The Foxtons website makes no mention of its association with the Ombudsman. The dropdown menus at the top and bottom of the Foxtons website are not fit for purpose. I find that the lack of transparency is the regrettable hallmark of how this company operates.
New Lease Management
We have recently had our lease taken over by Shamim, and it has been such a pleasure dealing with her. We have noticed a huge improvement in the service and it's nice to see Foxtons take on such great employees. Thanks again Shamim, you've much such a big difference to our experience with Foxtons!
Failed to repay deposit
Two months after the end of a short let Foxtons still hadn't returned the deposit and failed to answer all correspondence. No issues or deductions have been suggested; they simply don't respond and I had to raise a dispute under the deposit protection scheme.
Extremely poor handling of deposit refund, lack of accountability and communication.
I moved out of my flat on 25 September 2025, and my landlord immediately approved the full return of my deposit. I provided my bank details to Foxtons on 3 October, and the online portal confirmed that the refund would be processed within 5–7 working days.
It’s now been weeks, and despite several follow-up emails, Foxtons has failed to process the refund or provide any update. My messages have been left unanswered, and every call simply ends with “we’ll look into it.”
For a company of Foxtons’ size, this level of disorganisation and neglect is unacceptable. I’ve since had to escalate the case to mydeposits and The Property Ombudsman.
Tenants deserve better transparency and accountability when it comes to their money.
Would not recommend
We listed with Foxton's in Stratford to sell our property. There was poor communication throughout our time listed with them. They would often give us only an hour's notice of viewing despite us asking for at least 24 hours notice. They rarely responded to emails. When trying to call them it would often be difficult to get a specific agent on the phone.
They did find us a buyer at one point at asking price but unfortunately the sale fell apart (not due to anything Foxton's did). However, during this time their communication with the buyers was sketchy- we needed the buyer to have information that might affect the sale but they continued to put off relaying this information which led to a couple of weeks of limbo before the sale fell through.
We would have months of no viewings, then suddenly a flurry when they must have remembered our property was on sale!
We were listed for nearly a year before we left for another agent. Despite being on with them for nearly a year, they insisted on the full month's notice period to leave contract (during which time we had no viewings).
Considering they are the most expensive agents to sell with by far (3%!) the service was pretty poor.
I would not recommend them (not just because of a lack of sale which has other factors to consider) but the overall poor communication throughout.
Cannot believe that they held our money…
Cannot believe that they held our money for more than 3 months and not give it back to us! No communications at all! I am wondering where the good reviews are from!
An International sale
Thanks to Blaval and whole Hounslow team, especially Rizwan and Elisa. We started with Foxtons on this in October of 2023. Through those two years, the Foxtons team stuck with us as we progressed through the process of obtaining Deputyship for our mother's affairs. Once given the green light for everything they progressed the sale quicker than I could have imagined and for full asking price. On top of all this, they had to work this with a client living in the U.S. Lots of emails and international phone calls. Thanks Blaval Mustaq and the whole Hounslow team!
Terrible service
Terrible service. Very disappointed. I found a short let property on their portal myself, the agent (Amir Abbasian) kept suggesting either awful properties, or ones over my budget. They were very quick to call back and close the deal but once the deal was made, I never once was able to speak directly to my agent Olivia Taylor, or anyone from Foxtons again. Repeated messages and email queries went unanswered. Every two weeks a new person would be in touch and all my queries would be ignored. The property was nice and in good condition but i paid Foxtons 350 pounds for the end of tenancy clean, and was slapped with a 600 pound cleaning claim on my deposit. The property was never cleaned and my landlord claimed the charges from my deposit. at least a dozen emails later, I still don't have a protection document number for my deposit. I was told my deposit was protected. I ws told I would be provided an inventory upon moving in. I was told the place would be cleaned at the end of my tenancy, for which i paid. None of the above happened. Still waiting for part of my deposit to be returned, even though they said it was transferred three weeks ago and should take 5 to 7 days to be credited. I've settled the dispute with my landlord now, even though it is extortion, but it seems even he was being cheated by Foxtons.
I should have listened to people when they said Foxtons is terrible. I wish I had seen trust pilot reviews. Rude. Disorganised. Non responsove.
This review is about 1A Montagu Place, which i rented for 7 weeks in june and july.
Incompetent and disrespectful
Our landlord uses Foxtons Stratford as their letting agent. Our experience with them has been appalling. Maintenance issues are ignored for months on end with no communication, and when they are dealt with they are dealt with badly and break again quickly. The property we live in is currently on the market and the sales team have been incredibly rude and disrespectful towards us as tenants. Harassing every member of the household about viewings one after the other, attempting to get a different answer when told no to a viewing with less than 24 hours notice, and then showing up anyway and attempting to enter the property anyway. Complaints have been made multiple times yet the behaviour continues unchanged.
I've recently started renting from…
I've recently started renting from Foxtons. They are both the letting agent and the managing agent. I have never paid so much for such a bad service. None of the extractor fans work, my heating doesnt work, the curtain rods are bent and now one has fallen off & luckily no one got hurt because they have taken so long to resolve the issues. I'm wondering is this even legal?
Severe Delays in Contract Signing Causing Legal Breaches
The worst, most incompetent, laziest, and appalling service in London. 4 tenants (moving in/out) received contracts with 3 month delays, after moving in. Not sticking to procedures. Not replying to emails.
Requesting passports before signing the contract.
Never sending the contract unless you threaten. Zero help over the phone. We asked for a form to make a formal complaint and were ignored. We had to pay double council tax charges because we didn't have a legal address. One of the tenants is facing issues with their citizenship application for the same reason.
Will be pursuing external tenant support, legal action, and overall boycott of this shit service. I hope the team managing Lugard Road sees this and faces the consequences internally from their own management or from our actions. To consistently and identically mess up a service of a singular house with 4 tenants at one address requires a talent that only this specific office can show. If you can, avoid at all costs, move in elsewhere, or ask your landlord to sort everything out. These people clearly can't.
An agency who goes the extra mile
I am hugely impressed with Foxtons and in particular Michael Chamberlain and Joe Darnell and his team. They managed to sell my house in Berkshire when nothing seemed to be moving. I sold it through Foxtons and Bidx1. Foxtons relentless viewings and efficient follow ups resulted in me receiving several offers and an exchange within a week which I believe is quite rare. I applaud Foxtons professionalism and hard graft in order to make this possible. They also kept me informed at all stages. I wish I had used them from day one. It would have saved me a lot of money. I believe you get what you pay for and for me it was well worth it. I know they battled to get me the best possible price in a difficult market. The last time I used them was for a previous house sale through their Ealing/Chiswick branch, they managed to achieve a sales price well over and above the original asking price. I have had 2 good experiences so far with Foxtons and appreciate their ‘no nonsense’ and proactive approach. They certainly get the job done. Thank you Foxtons. I personally wouldn’t consider using any other agent. They certainly go the extra mile.
Completely mismanaged end of tenancy — avoid
I had a really poor experience with Foxtons after ending my tenancy early. My landlord and I agreed (as allowed in the contract) that I could leave early with no fees, but Foxtons made the whole process a mess from start to finish.
When my partner dropped off the keys on 7 August, we were told to email someone about the deposit and overpaid rent (together over £4,000). After that, it was weeks of chasing, confusion, and being passed between different people — often getting replies after closing time so we couldn’t get hold of anyone.
At one point they even sent me a letter demanding I pay out the rest of the tenancy for another year, despite my landlord confirming in writing that I didn’t owe anything. He’s been great throughout; Foxtons, on the other hand, couldn’t seem to communicate internally or keep track of what was agreed.
It ended up taking over a month to get my money back, first my deposit, then my overpaid rent, after endless emails and calls. The whole experience was disorganised, stressful, and left me with zero confidence in them.
I wouldn’t recommend Foxtons to anyone looking for a smooth or professional letting experience.
Stay away. Unethical company.
My nan was all set to move into a property, and everything was in place — deposits paid, paperwork completed, and the moving date confirmed. The seller (a young woman moving to a house in Tooting) had already paid over £2,000 in fees and other associated costs.
Then, just two weeks before my nan was due to move, a man from Foxtons — Mohamed Mohamed — chose instead to sell to a cash buyer at the very last minute, completely disregarding the commitment that had already been made.
This was an incredibly unethical and unprofessional move that caused a huge amount of stress and financial loss for both parties.
Stay away from Foxtons, and in particular, do not do business with Mohamed Mohamed if you value honesty, reliability, and professionalism.
Greedy and lazy not fixing anything in…
Greedy and lazy not fixing anything in the house and scamming me out of my deposit with the landlord
Dealing with Foxtons Battersea office…
Dealing with Foxtons Battersea office was not very straightforward. We felt seriously let down by their lack of engagement and effort in marketing. Very few viewings, no proactivity, did not answer or return calls promptly. After asking to be let out of our contract toward the end of the agreed 16 weeks due to lack of viewings, they made us wait 4 additional weeks even though there had been beginning of August and end of Sept. More than a week after the end of contract, I still cannot make arrangements to get the keys back and they do not return my phone calls.
The flagship Agency in Dishonest unprofessional behavior
I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Foxtons has been extremely disappointing and has been ongoing for 4 years with zero improvement over a long period of time.
The level of unprofessionalism, poor communication, and lack of accountability I encountered was unacceptable for a business operating in an already unregulated sector, but they sent the benchmark.
Staff members are not interested in treating clients fairly, acting with professionalism and doing a job they effectively collect huge fee's for.
What makes mattes worse is there direct managers and business heads are even more scrupulous and act only when there is financial incentive. The organization is run like a mafia from top to bottom and concerns ranges from dismissive and rude agents and area managers, complete incompetence to deal with simple emails and a clear lack of education on industry standards
The overall culture of the agency seems to prioritise self-interest over professionalism and client care. Transparency and courtesy — basic expectations in property management are completely lacking.
I would strongly recommend that anyone considering dealing with Foxtons proceed with caution or seek out a more competent and reputable agency, there is a wide choice and far better options available that treat clients with the respect and diligence they deserve.
Especially stay away from the South west London branch
