Horrible mobile connection, many spam calls, bad customer service

Horrible mobile connection (Lyon), virtually inexistent internet anywhere outside of the city.
I subscribed 3 days ago (with a new number) and I've already received 10 phishing and spam calls.

Tried to cancel my subscription, they don't speak English. Tried in French, the call was interrupted right when we started talking and they left me hanging for 10 minutes, with no sound from them.

And the only other option to cancel is by physical mail? For a telecommunications company? How backwards and kafkaesque is this?

Do not try to use Free.

I subscribed to Free and they provided the necessary boxes, A technician arrived and connected me to the fibre network. I asked him to check the TV and he said he was not allowed to. Since then I have contacted their helpline probably 5 or 6 times and talked to technicians. After going through their procedures and the tv is still not working they hang up. I have now had the Free TV service which has been unworkable for 5 days and they have sent me an Invoice. There seems to be no way to complain I am unable to log in to my subscriber area, They have no eMail address to which I can write, They seem tohave no complaints system. I am completely frustrated.

i wish there were 0 star rating but there isn't so i gave this company 1 star atleast. i subscribed this internet just a month ago hoping it work fine but it is one of the most worst internet service provider i have ever used. they charge you 49 euro for subscription in the beginning and then if you wish to terminate your contract you pay 49 euro again. they even dont provide refund for returning the box. waste of money and time. I am using my mobile hotspot to even writing this review.

The most unfriendly experience

The most unfriendly experience I've ever had with a company!
I've signed up with Free, because they offer the cheapest internet, but the hassle you have to get through to talk to them or get anything sorted is not worth it! If you do not have a French number you can not call them, it's impossible to do it. They don't have an email service either, they have a WhatsApp service, but it checks the number you put in your profile, so if your WhatsApp is connected with your foreign number, you can not use that either. All their debugging is done on the Freebox mobile app, it connects to the modem via internet, so because that is not working I now have 0 clue what's going on. I got a friend to call them, after an hour of back and forth the friend finally managed to get to a human being and make an appointment the next week, but before they send an engineer they call to confirm the appointment. At this point I gave up and went to the shop to buy their French sim, I payed for the new sim, additional money to convert it into eSim. Then I tried to switch the number on my profile to the new French number, so that the engineer can call and guess what? It can not be done, the number change can only be done in their Freebox mobile app WHICH DOES NOT WORK BECAUSE THE WIFI IS DOWN. By far the worst experience every step of the way.

Hopeless company

Hopeless company. My phone eSim is not working. I tried five times connecting with them via their WhatsApp “service”. Everytime they just stopped responding. Then I called them and when they heard the problem they just hung up on me. Hopeless company. Absolutely hopeless.

I really really dont recommend buying…

I really really dont recommend buying internet there, I made the mistake buying a router + installation before checking here beforehand. They have sent me the router 1 month ago and the technician came a few days later. Instead of installing box like its shown in the Video he just left without saying anything. Now im trying to contact them to send another technician for 1 month: I dont have i french number so i have no chance to get in contact with them through a call, they dont have e-mail contact for me and when i go to the free.fr stores they tell me they dont help me. The only way is to call them with a french number. Now yesterday i finally got the chance to call with the phone of a friend and after 20 minutes of progressing they told me to call another day even tho on the website it says they are available.
I've never experienced a support this horrible in my entire life and i recommend no one supporting this **** (i will also cancel and try getting my money back). Btw yeah i know im naive that changed now in that perspective.

I am living in Saint Laurent du Var…

I am living in Saint Laurent du Var (06700), I made a mistake to go for Free even though my friends advised me to go for Orange. I am paying for the best possible offer (Freebox Delta) but connection speed and service is horrible. I lost my connection 24 hours ago, they send someone onsite to troubleshoot but engineers did not have the right equipment to fix the problem (Did not have spare fiber cable or soldering machine to fix the connection). Now after more than 24 hours, i have no news, I tried to contact them several times and they can't even give me an idea on when issue will be fixed or when they will come. Dont' think about going for them if you use your internet to work from home. IF you just want to watch TV, they are ok till the time you don't have to contact them-:)

Free Mobil France thieves

they doing weird stuff like; Thieves: First, I pay 19.99 euros. After that, they want me to pay 29.99 euros. When I inquire about the increase in the amount, they say that I did not pay on time, even though I paid on time. When I asked them to stop the chip, they stole the amount from the credit card account. Beware, they are fraudsters and thieves. I do not recommend dealing with them, as they are thieves Ridiculous company how doesn’t give a f about their costumers. STAY AWAY FROM FREE Mobil!!!!

Impossible to contact/cancel contract

Continually getting asked to provide proof of sale and departure from a residence. Since September. I am still getting letters despite the cancellation and the return of their equipment as per their system AND, a Notaire's confirmation AND, all the information requested. It would appear that even giving the advance notification of cancellation I still got charged. I cannot log in other than to get invoices. I cannot contact anyone other than by phone and I am not a French speaker. I want this to stop.

non-French people, you MIGHT get low-key scammed!!

As a foreigner trying to get "free" services in France, *keep in mind*: it's NOT a pre-paid data plan, it's an actual subscription, that will suck money from your account monthly, UNTIL you terminate the contract (minimum 10 days ahead!) It can do so for 12 months, no problem, you'll just bleed 20 EUR per month, they're happy with this arrangement (I'd be curious to understand how much money per year they make in this manner from non-French people, since I honestly believe this is purposeful company policy!

Nobody from their staff will make that clear for you that you pay no matter what and you should terminate the contract to stop paying.

They don't speak English, they don't care, their jobs are ultra-hard to loose for any performance-related issue, it's France baby!! You, the client, are just a useless fly on the wall, or less than that, for them! You don't matter!

So remember, my wise friend reading reviews ahead of buying stuff:

1. when you go get a "free" SIM for mobile data, *it's not a prepaid service, even if you will pay something up front!* It is a normal subscription, which will charge your card about 20EUR / month at least, no matter what (you leave France, you don't use their service at all, it doesn't matter!.

2. The staff, if you ask "is this pre-paid", might say "yes" because they don't really understand what a "pre-paid mobile data service" means, and you, of course, pay something up front. Or they simply don't care about you. They will not explain you it's an actual "no matter what" subscription for 12 months, until you terminate the contract, that will suck money out of your account even w/ you knowing it.
Terrible overall experience with this company! Their staff is very, I mean very poorly trained. They don't speak English almost at all, they don't seem to care much about the customers, their communication skills are zero to very low.

3. (now this is CRAZY!) If you go to a "free" store and ask to terminate the contract (we did in our last day in Paris), the staff will tell you *to send an actual signed letter by actual paper-based post* (you know, the kind with postmen with bags on their shoulder, horses and carriages, that kind of post! In 2023!!! We of course couldn't do that, we had no time (or French speaking knowledge), the staff lady (same typical attitude of superiority over the client who pays her salary) told us that classical post is the only way to terminate the contract.

But, knowing it's a prepaid service anyway (mislead by the 1st "helpful" "free" staff guy when we signed up), we didn't mind so much and we just left France w/o thinking twice about it.

Some months later, what do you know? They've been pulling 17-20EUR per month from each of our 2 cards!!

And, as a complete idiot that I am, I finally log-in (for the 1st time) in their stupid client area on their site. Just to realize (by tediously translating from French, ofc. there's no option for English there), that you can actually ask there a termination of contract, online, 10 days ahead. So now I did that, will pay them around 20EUR again in total for these 10 days of *nothing*, and finally I get rid of them.

This is the "free" company (actually just a brand of Iliad SA, company founded in 1980, with a mentality and people skill also from 1980).

Patient and adorable customer service

I signed up for Free mobile AND wifi so have experience of both. I was expecting terrible service because... France. For only the 2nd time in my 14 years in France, I experienced customer service approaching perfect. This is the kind of service you get in Anglo countries. Free now has actual humans located *in your home arrondissement* who literally call you up and are nice to you. If you log a problem, they respond within 5 minutes. It's crazy. They send a technician to your home as many times as it takes (and let me tell you, I made it hard for them due to a million things I did badly wrong) and that was all for free and handled with saintly patience and good humour. I am seriously shocked and impressed. Whatever corporate culture business strategy thing these guys are following, it's working.

Complete scammers

Complete useless and scammers. We contracted our Internet services 2 weeks ago. They told us it would take 24 to 48 hours for a technician to make an appointment and install the router. 2 weeks later, 9 complaints to Free whatsapp bots for nothing... completely ignoring us. Avoid using this!
