Lacking transparency

If you’re seeking to be a trusted brand you have to be honest across quality of service and transparency on the financial side of things.

I have been a long Freeletics user on and off depending in my fitness needs and there was a time when I was a loyal advocate for the platform but not anymore.
I had a 1 year membership I purchased last year and I didn’t intend to extend it as I switched to different routine and honestly, I totally forgot about the membership and that it was about to renew, when it happens once a year your don’t tend to remember all your membership renewals. And these guys just took money from my account without any warning. Even with monthly subscriptions I always get an email or notification 3-5 day prior, but here, they just take your money. And when I challenged them I got a reply: “nope, we told you last year you wouldn’t get a refund so deal with it” and blocked me from sending anymore emails! Customer service actually blocked my email!

That shows how desperate they are to get people’s money no matter what hiding behind a noble cause. Noble or not you still have to be transparent when deal with people’s money and you are not. And if before I used to come back to Freeletics routine from time to time, it won’t happen again. And I, of course will advise my friends to use alternative platforms that are more transparent with subscriptions and charges.

My favourite workout app

The app keeps the workouts interesting and they can be adapted to my situation. Each exercise comes with a video that shows how to do the exercise which means I’m never left wondering if I’m doing an exercise correctly.

The companies business practice is…

The companies business practice is utilizing automatic renewals in hopes that you will forget to cancel. Upon attempting to cancel the company will make it difficult to do so almost hiding the cancellation feature. Rather than building a product a person wants to continually use they instead will count on a person failing to cancel.

disappointing pricing policy

Good workouts, but very disappointing pricing policy. My yearly Coach & Nutrition subscription was auto-renewed at full price (~90€) without any reminder, and on the same day Freeletics emailed a huge discount for the same product. Support refused to adjust the price or offer a refund, only a voucher. The app itself is fine, but the way renewals and discounts are handled feels unfair. Be very careful with auto-renew.

Charged without proper renewal notice – Freeletics not responding

I cancelled the renewal on the very same day I was charged. I did not receive any renewal reminder or notification, which is required under EU consumer protection rules for subscription renewals.

Support has not replied to my follow-up messages and the ticket was closed without a solution.

According to EU Directive 2011/83/EU on Consumer Rights, consumers must be clearly informed about any upcoming automatic renewal and must be allowed to withdraw from digital content contracts if they cancel immediately after an unwanted renewal.

I am simply requesting a refund for a renewal I cancelled on the same day and for which no prior notice was provided, as required by EU law.

Please escalate this to a supervisor and resolve it.

Shady business practices going on here

I’ve now been burned twice by Freeletics’ subscription practices, and I’m done with this company.

My yearly subscription was automatically renewed even though I haven’t used the app for the past year and have no intention of using it in the next. There was no reminder before renewal, so I had no realistic chance to cancel in time. When I contacted support to request a refund, they flatly refused and simply pointed out that auto-renewal is mentioned on the purchase page and in the terms and conditions, claiming this is “fair and transparent.”

This would already be frustrating, but what makes it worse is that the exact same thing happened to me two years ago. I raised the issue about the lack of renewal reminders back then, and nothing has changed. Even the initial subscription confirmation email still does not clearly state that the subscription will auto-renew. In contrast, most reputable subscription services send clear reminder emails days or weeks before a yearly renewal.

In practice, Freeletics is relying on people not carefully combing through every line of the T&C and then hiding behind those terms when users are misled by the absence of obvious, consumer-friendly reminders. To me, this is a shady and unfair business practice, and I would not recommend their service to anyone.

Possibly the worst CS experience

Possibly the worst, most unpleasant and arrogant customer service I have had the misfortune to get in contact with. The app itself is not amazing, with a lot of inconvenient systems that make it complicated to use. The renewal issues you will read in other reviews are completely true, Freeletics renews your subscription behind your back and their CS is clearly trained to not give you any refund.

If I could give zero stars I would.Auto-renewal scam – no warning, no refund

If I could give zero stars I would.

I paid for a year of Freeletics, used it for about six months, and then stopped. I haven’t touched the app in a long time, yet they automatically renewed my subscription for €79.99 without any warning.

The moment I noticed, I cancelled and contacted support. They can clearly see from my account history that I haven’t used the app for months, yet they hide behind a clause on their website saying “renewals are non-refundable.” That’s just a get-out policy they’ve invented, which leaves customers trapped.

I’ve opened a ticket, sent multiple emails (from the correct account address), and so far I’ve had no meaningful reply. Based on the volume of similar complaints on here, this looks like a deliberate business model: renew without warning, refuse refunds, and drag out support until people give up.

Freeletics may have a decent app, but this kind of predatory subscription practice is unacceptable. Be warned: once you give them your card details, you may never see your money again.

Works best for me

Three times a week consistently, so I guess I like the app. Have done Crossfit for about 6 years. Did Freeletics before that and got a bit bored. Picked it up again and just stay fit with Freeletics now. Lately finished the Running 14 weeks workout and just love the progression I made.

Got Freeletics part of my Revolut…

Got Freeletics part of my Revolut subscription and then when trying to access it for the first time and open an account it says "Revoked code" - then I speak to Revolut and they send me to contact Freeletics and the Freeletics team is not really the most helpful customer service I dealt with saying that:

"hank you for your message.

This happens when you are no longer eligible for this benefit and this action cannot be reverted.

If you believe this is a mistake because you are eligible via your current Revolut plan, I invite you to contact Revolut directly in order to request a new valid code. Please make sure to communicate them your revoked code and that you are eligible again. They will check your eligibility and should after that give you your new code."

Made my first impression with the "quality" of customer service here .

Thanks but no thanks

Avoid

The app doesn't have many workouts I could use as a larger person. It has now been renewed without sending me any renewal reminders. Despite contacting support within minutes of receiving the confirmation of renewal, they refused the refund.

Do not sign up or provide this company…

Do not sign up or provide this company with your credit card information. The service is unhelpful. I received an email stating that my subscription had been automatically renewed. I immediately sent an email with a screenshot of the confirmation email I received months earlier, showing that I had actually canceled it. However, they "checked their logs" and could not find it, and they refused to respond to further emails regarding the matter.

Also, they do not send out an email reminder before renewing. It is a company that will speculate in you forgetting the renewal. Such a shame. I tried the app, and it was just not useful for me at the moment, but I could have returned as a customer sometime in the future. No way that will happen now.
