PROBLEMS - GEORGE DAY CARRAVANSWOULD NOT recommend purchasing an R V…

WOULD NOT recommend purchasing an R V from George Day Caravans.
The after sales is woeful.
Dozens of wasted phone calls and emails to this company.
It's all roses at first - but once you've paid, all the niceness disappears.

Have tried in vain to have warranty issues sorted.

Reading all the reviews on the George Day site I've noticed the majority concern pre sale and hand over services.
There doesn't appear to be correct follow-up on warranty.

Disgusting

Buyers beware!
My parents who are both aged about 80 purchased a brand new Adria Caravan in early 2025. This was the 3rd caravan that they have purchased from this mob.

On only their 3rd trip, while driving from Kalbarri to Jurien, they passed a Woolworths truck driving in the opposite direction. It was raining. On approach, they slowed to approx. 80km/hr and they estimate the truck was driving at approx. 100 km/hr. As the truck passed, they heard a thud noise and then noticed the car trailing them was flashing their lights. They pulled over to find that the two front windows on the caravan were missing.

They have contacted the George Day team a number of times. George Day advised them that it was not a warranty issue so they went to their insurer.

It's now been over 5 months since the incident and George Day continue to prove very difficult to deal with and still can't give my parents a date for when the windows will arrive and then be installed.

I can't say how disgusted I am at how the George Day team have handled this matter. To any one looking to purchase a caravan from George Day, please beware. The after sales service is disgusting.

Ongoing Front Door Faults Ignored

We picked up our brand-new caravan from George Day on 19 March 2025, and from day one the after-sales service has been extremely disappointing.

At handover, the pantry door was warped, and we were told a new one would be ordered and likely installed at the first service. It still hasn’t been replaced months later, and we are continually told it’s “out of their control.”

More importantly, the front door has never opened or closed properly. It requires significant force to open, and trying to close it is even worse. When we raised this early on, we were told it would be checked at the first service.

At the service on 21 July 2025, we were told “there’s nothing wrong with the door” and that this is apparently a feature of the Essential models — that you must hold the key button down and use your other hand to push or pull the door. This is completely impractical, especially when every other Essential door we tried at the Caravan & Camping Show opened smoothly with one hand.

We have repeatedly asked for the door to be properly repaired or replaced. At our most recent warranty drop-off on 12 November, we were again told the issue was fixed after “adjusting the frame.” We used the van over the weekend and the door is still not opening or closing smoothly, and actually gets worse the more it’s used. Even friends cannot open it, I have to do it for them.

To make matters worse, the responses from staff (including the suggestion to “just spray CRC on it”) have felt dismissive and unhelpful. My husband is a tradie and had obviously already tried that. The frame is clearly warped and needs proper repair or replacement.

This was meant to be our forever van, and instead the constant issues with the door make me anxious every time we go away — which is at least once a month. For the price we paid, this experience has been stressful, frustrating, and completely unacceptable. Several friends have also had similar poor after-sales experiences with George Day, and unfortunately I now understand why.

I cannot recommend George Day based on our experience. I will continue to share our story until the front door is replaced and these issues are properly addressed.

PURCHASERS FROM GEORGE DAY PERTH

PURCHASERS FROM GEORGE DAY PERTH
BE AWARE
For people going to George Day Perth to purchase a caravan or motorhome, please be wary.

We ordered a motorhome from George Day Perth in November 2021 (even though we lived in Queensland because we were stuck in WA due to COVID) and paid a deposit and told it would be 12 months. We took charge of a brand new motorhome in September 2023. Which we fully understood and accepted the late arrival under the circumstances during Covid.

That said, the motorhome arrived in WA and before purchase we had requested some extras - a 3000W Redarc Inverter System with battery charger, and 300amp lithium battery and we also purchased an innerspring mattress from a company in Perth, which we got delivered to George Day to be put in ready for delivery day. George Day Perth were in charge of the installation of the new battery system.
These extras were on top of the purchase price.

The motorhome was shipped over from Brisbane and the extras were installed in Perth.

On handover day, we were all excited and videoed the guy telling us all the information that comes with the handover, so we didn’t forget anything we were told. This ended up being a waste of time because he knew nothing and kept telling us “it’s a great system, read the manuals”. He couldn’t tell us how to check the oil, he didn’t know where the jack was and then finally when we asked where is the original mattress, 1500w inverter, and battery system that originally came with the motorhome his reply was “I don’t know, you’ll have to talk to the manager.”

After this, we did talk to the manager - his reply was “oh we threw the mattress away because it was just a cheap foam mattress and we have no idea where the inverter and battery are, you’ll just have to deal with it.”

Then we were told by their service
department just before we left that being a new motorhome there will be faults and we have 3 months to find the faults for them to rectify them.

There were quite a few ‘teething’ problems in the first few weeks - keeping in mind we were only using the motorhome one week out of every three - (one of the teething issues was one of the USB plugs going on fire). We managed to extinguish the fire before any damage was done. We took it back into George Day Perth the next day where the electrician worked on it and put in a new ‘black’ USB plug which didn’t go with the rest of the plugs in the motorhome. When we spoke to the manager about this, his comment was “oh we put a more expensive USB port in it because the white ones are just cheap ones.” After getting no joy in getting any repairs done in Perth through George Day Perth we decided to drive it back to Brisbane to the Apollo factory, where it was built, and leave it with them for three months or so to rectify the long list of problems/issues.

When we returned to Brisbane to pick up the motorhome and make sure everything was fine, they had not touched it. Then more discussions ensued and we finally negotiated that they would have it for another month to fix all the faults.

After that time, we went to pick it up and the factory floor person explained to us what was done and apologised and said “The motorhome should never have been let out of the factory in the condition it was.”

Now we are back in Western Australia, we have issues with the electrics to the fridge. So we’ve had to contact George Day Perth again, and no surprises, when I said that we had issues with the fridge tripping out, the first thing they said was “If you didn’t take the extended warranty then it is not covered by us.” Once I explained that it’s not the fridge that’s the problem, it’s the electrics to the fridge and it’s the motorhome at fault, I was then told that I need to email all the issues with photos to the after sales address. And, no surprises, 10 days later, we are still waiting on a reply - not even an acknowledgement they have received the email let alone a time as to when they can book it in to investigate the problem. We always seem to get the initial phone call answered, but unfortunately after that (with promises made that they will follow up) our issue seems to get lost in the abyss.

Once again, we cannot stress enough - anyone purchasing anything through George Day Perth, be aware.

The good and the bad!

I booked a date for a Project 2000 Loft Bed to be repaired. There was a wait of 2 1/2 months to be seen. I confirmed the booking two weeks out from the service. The service dept did not have the correct details for me or the job which required the auto electrician who had not been booked and couldn't look at the job. This was done by a supervisory staff member. I corrected the wrong details when confirming the booking date. On arrival, the details were still incorrect as was the contact information on the invoice after their team had tried to rectify the issues I was experiencing. One would think that three attempts to get a phone number and email correct would have been successful. This was not the case. The service reception staff did their best to sort out the confusion their colleagues had created. I was looked after promptly on the day despite the fact that the booking details and job information passed to the service dept were also incorrect. This is the good bit. A replacement part has been quoted and is expensive. On checking with alternate repair companies, the part quoted on is twice what two other van companies can supply the part for. WHY? I note that many items on GDC accessories shelves are considerably more costly than their competitors. A good and bad experience. On balance, I will not be returning to GDC for services or parts unless there is no alternative repairer available.

Total disgusting behaviour from George Day!

Totally disgusted with the service after purchasing a New Classic Essential Caravan from George Day Maddington. Slide out bed slopes down at foot end causing the bedding to slide down onto the floor . When brought to their attention they said it’s a warranty problem, waited 2 months for approval to be fixed, booked in for service and bed to be corrected, I asked to be kept updated as we were paying for accommodation as the van is own home and was told “We don’t have time to call every customer !” They kept our Van for 7 days which we thought was understandable as repairing a sloping bed would take time as it may need to be a new replacement bed . I called the day before pick up and was told Everything was done and ready to pick up . Upon pick up we were told the Bed was not fixed as they couldn’t get approval from Essentials to do it ,where we had previously been told it had been approved. So they kept our caravan for 7 days unnecessarily!!!! while we paid out for accommodation. No phone calls or emails or any communication from George Day service at all! We are now reporting them to accc consumer rights . Be warned if you buy a caravan from George Day Maddington be expected to be lied too and No after service care !!!!

Old fashioned honesty.

I couldn’t speak highly enough to the honesty and integrity of the staff in parts & accessories.
I took a tv in expecting to purchase a new one however Ron offered to test it first.
To my surprise it tested fine, saving me around $600 but a very refreshing example of honesty and integrity.

Excellent after sales service…

Needed a replacement non-return valve for our new caravan and George Day service department fit us into a really busy Friday schedule on our way to our destination. The technician fitted the new valve in the car park without our having to disconnect the van and we were on our way in 30 minutes. Thanks to all for a really good job with great customer service.

I was sold a New Timberjack hybrid van

I was sold a New Timberjack hybrid van. In less than a month numerous issues have arisen, the latest and worst is that the roof leaks through the AC with even 1 mil of rain. Van is booked in for the 1st compulsory service in 2 weeks. When I reported the issues, was told make a list with photos and send to Service. When I informed them of the roof was told. We will look at it 14th January 2024.
Van is now unusable and not work anything as also unsaleable in this condition. So much for a $66000 Van.

We purchased a secondhand caravan from…

We purchased a secondhand caravan from George day in March 2018 for a trip around Australia. We took our Mitsubishi Pajero into them and requested a caravan that would meet the weight requirements ofr our car. later we discovered that the van sold to us was not legal to tow behind our car when laden up to the maximum amount this was due to the ball weight restrictions on the vehicle.

After a month or so I discovered that the caravan had a significant amount of rot to the inner timber framework this would have been noticed by the dealer but as an inexperienced buyer, i did not know what to look for. we are now left with an unsaleable in this condition caravan that cost us $40k just 12 months ago!
