Absolutely shocking delivery service.

Absolutely shocking delivery service.

I used to use this company a lot for stock for my online boutique mainly as a good source of stocking fillers for Christmas presents for my customers. I'd avoided them recently as it is quite far for me to travel and their quality has been a bit hit and miss however decided to give them another try and get the items delivered as my car was off the road for a couple of weeks

Big mistake.

About 90% of the items were smashed and they looked like they'd been packed by a blind man and either used a cement mixer or the Luftwaffe to deliver it.

Appalled. Each further box I opened showed more damage. Even I got to a point where I was surprised that something survived in tact - the actual pieces I really wanted neither of them were included.

In all the years I have been trading (and I recently sent a lot of ceramic stuff to Dubai and a teaser to Australia) and this bunch of charlatans can't even get four boxes across the Humber.

Atrocious. I'll be asking for my money back and I'll be taking them to court if they don't comply.

In my opinion.... fabulous in every way.

Firstly, I should admit, I have a slight obsession with auctions, and have bought from most of them in the UK either by attending and bidding in person, or through Ibidder. Both take some form of deposit prior to bidding (to stop people bidding and disappearing). With ibidder, the deposit is £50 which I personally do not get returned as I bid far too often.

Ibidder also charge an addition fee on top of the hammer price and buyers premium which is a pain in the bum, but the ease of using ibidder outweigh this.

The positives about bidding with Gilbert Baitsons;-

The sales are wide and varied.

There is always opportunity to view the sale, and if you cannot make the agreed viewing slot, they will let you view in office hours.

They are more open with description of items than most auction houses, showing photos of faults and marking things as AF (faulty). If you cannot view, it is really important to study the photos, or ring and ask for an appraisal - they are always transparent in appraisals.

They rarely have minimum bids that are above their usual £5 starting bid, but sometimes even lower.

Simple way to make payment on line, if you have difficulty ring, Liam will help.

If you haven't picked up within the stated period, you receive a complimentary telephone call from Mark, who is very helpful and will store items until I can collect (he will also arrange postage at additional costs).

Mark also tends to text if I have bought something that is difficult to transport to stop me arriving in the wrong vehicle. This maybe after my son used my account to buy a baby grand piano, then persuaded his father to help him move it in his little van. Mark and Liam helped them to get an appropriate van with enough men to move the piano at a very cheap price.

Collection is easy. The staff are always friendly, and helpful (I end up chatting with Carol and Claire, and all the boys in the main warehouse). They have always helped me to carry items to my car, stack the car/van, or strap to the roof.

If I have ever had a problem with an item, Liam has always offered a full refund.

Problems

I honestly have never had a problem with Gilbert Baitsons, that they have not resolved extremely well.

My first time at this auction room and…

My first time at this auction room and i was very happy with everything. All the staff i interacted with were polite, friendly and helpful. No deposit taken to register for bidding. They took my debit card and release it once I'd paid for my goods. Plenty of sitting and standing room for the auction. You can get hot beverages and sandwiches at a very reasonable price at the back if the room. The young woman member of staff helped me to carry my goods to my car. All in all a very good visit.

Beware of £50 deposit scam

Beware of £50 deposit. If you bid on anything they take £50 from your credit card immediately, then you have to wait for 5 days after sale for refund. Very underhand small print. I use Saleroom a lot and this is the only company that uses this tactic. AVOID THIS AUCTION COMPANY.

Bad corporate culture

I was charged a deposit. Informed that they only release deposit once I RECEIVED my products. Never mind I paid for products AND for shipping. Was told this is the way its always been done. Received reminder emails for payment already made. Chasing up my packages, Liam told me he is not a wizard. Didn't apologise for their error and delay. Wouldn't have bothered if I had seen other reviews

SADLY LET DOWN BY A COMPANY I RESPECTED

I have been visiting GILBERT BAITSONS auctions for many years now, however I have recently moved over the Humber and don't go as often as I used to, however I still get the email updates from them.
After reading an auction catalogue from them I was interested in a lot they had for sale , but didn't want to travel all that way for one lot.
I noticed I could bid via BIDSPOTTER so I already had an account with them so I decided to register for this auction with them, which I did , I then had to pay a bidding deposit to GILBERT BAITSON HULL to enable me to bid, I was led to believe if my bidding wasn't successful I would get my £50 deposit back, nearly a month later I havnt!!
I have sent numerous emails and rang three times, I still have never got my money back
I always thought this company were ok as I understand Michael Baitson is a Bailiff!! and all companies make mistakes, no problem , but still not to send my money back after several phone calls and emails is not good.
So online auction bidders, be aware you may not get your money back.
I spoke to Bidspotter they wont do anything as my contract is with BAITSONS
WONT DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN!
