Glenbrae Vet
Glenbrae Vet, Bearsden neutered my dog and he had complications from the neutering. After I took the cone off, two weeks later he started licking it and biting it , which I later learned is a sign of infection. It should have been healed at this stage. He started having diarrhea over a few days then blood was dripping from the area. I took him in that morning to Glenbrae Vet, they had him the whole day, I picked him up at 6.30 pm. I was shocked to find out they sedated him given him fluids and to ‘ clean the area’ but no drip antibiotics were given or pain killer. They insisted I paid my bill, which was around £870, while I stood there at reception my dog was crying in pain, throwing up on the floor and dripping blood. I insisted on antibiotics and pain relief. They had given me a cream to apply to an area dripping in blood which was a joke considering he was growling, crying and dripping blood from the area. I stood at reception arguing with them , finally they gave me a pill form of antibiotics. Signs of infection are, sickness, diarrhea, blood dripping from wound, lethargy, high temperature and not eating. He had all of these but the vet argued he showed no signs of infection. I told them my dog wouldn’t take pill form and I begged them for pain relief in liquid form. She sent me to the shop next door to buy Calpol, totally irresponsible and negligent ,because she didn’t give me a prescription or a note to specify what Calpol to buy. Some calpol contains xylitol which is toxic for dogs. At 1am I had to take my dog to emergency animal hospital, he had been crying all night, blood still dripping from the wound. He was immediately sedated, given IV antibiotics, pain relief and fluids. He nearly died that night. The vet there was excellent. He cleaned out the wound properly, said in his notes it was full of bacteria ( this was after Glenbrae had apparently cleaned it) I was told to stop the Calpol immediately.. In the morning he was transferred to a different vet who had him on IV antibiotics, fluids and pain relief. The next few days were followed up by injections of antibiotics. When he finally got home, he had been given liquid antibiotics and a liquid pain killer for DOGS. I contacted the VCMS but Glenbrae refused to take any responsibility for what had happened. One of their excuses was I should have brought the dog in earlier, which is laughable. They did nothing for my dog when he was seriously ill what chance would he have had if I had brought him in earlier? They also said I refused blood work to identify an infection. The infection was obvious. He was showing all the signs of infection. His elevated temperature would have identified that alone. I was shocked when I picked him up and they hadnt given him antibiotics. The problem is with vets, there is no protection for customers. They got paid around 1500 pounds for this type of treatment. They sent my dog home , crying in pain, throwing up, not eating, dripping in blood , lethargic, growling with no antibiotics or pain relief that day and they got paid for that. My dog would have died that night a very painful death.
