Do not put your glasses in an ultrasonic cleaner!

I accidentally destroyed my old glasses by putting them into a ultrasonic cleaner. I had those glasses for around 7 years, and really did not want the hassle of having another eye test and buying a new pair. However, the optician (who I think was Mr Goldsmith) conducted a thorough eye test and explained each set of results. He clearly knew a lot about eye health. He also gave me the extended eye test free of charge! He explained the results (the extended eye test included a 3D map of my eye) and went out of his way to tailor the prescription for my line of work (I work with computers every day). I then selected frames with Russell and Hayley who chose two perfect frames for me. Russell also helped me decide which customisation features were available (lens thickness, tint colour, tint opacity etc). After two weeks, the glasses arrived and I am very pleased with them. The lens quality is immediately apparent and I look much better in these than my old pair. The entire process was easy, everyone was very friendly, and I would not think twice about buying more glasses from them. Thank you Mr Goldsmith, Russell and Hayley!

Corringham branch

Corringham branch, excellent
I cannot recommend Goldsmith Webb enough! I have been going there for quite a few years after I found other opticians couldn’t get my prescription right. All the staff are friendly and professional and I always have a good chat with my regular optician. My husband can’t do the three hour round trip to go here so I can comment on the difference in our experiences with different opticians. Whilst my optician advised that there was a slight change on my reading glasses and left it up to me when I decide when to change my prescription, my husband’s appointment was a hard sell, pushing to upgrade lenses, pushing to sell whatever they could sell him, despite saying no, the selling went on, it was awful. I do not get this type of uncomfortable behaviour in Goldsmith Webb. I shall remain a customer for as long as I can do the long drive! Thanks. Dawn

1st Class Service

Have been going to Goldsmith Webb for a number of years now and wouldn't go anywhere else. I really like the continuity of always seeing the same Optician really nice person. Have just collected my new specs this morning super fitting service from Keith and very pleased with them .

Excellent Opticians!

We have been patients with Richard at the Leigh on Sea branch for many years and cannot recommend both him and his staff highly enough! He is so thorough,meticulous and kind. All his team are very friendly and professional and we are so thankful to have the practice we can trust so close to home !

Rude unhelpful staff member

Having been patient/customer at the Rochford branch for 30 years from when it was originally Terence Mendoza, I can honestly say that I will never be going back again.
Receptionist was great when I initially made the appointment and super welcoming when I turned up, Optician was one that had seen before, and again extremely good, and knows about the condition I have in my left eye
I'd booked for an Advanced Eye Test (£72) to be informed that one of the machines was not working.
I'd also spoke with the Optician about using Contacted Lenses again having not used them for about 7 years, and although I knew what I'd had before was still advised that I would need to go on a trial at a cost of another (£70), ok whatever.
Once finished with the Optician handed over to the Optical Assistant who took my money for the Semi-Advanced Eye Test without even an apology for not being able to complete what I had booked, and having got a copy of my prescription asked if I could have a PD measurement, which you would have thought I'd asked for world, the reply was terse, quite rude and pretty blunt, I questioned why not and was told she couldn't give it to me, again in quite a rude manner. Now I know I am not going to buy glasses from them, as personally I prefer Oakley's as a frame and Goldsmith Webb don't sell Oakley, but for the sake of 10 seconds in putting the PD reader on my forehead and telling me the measurement when I've not had the full advanced service as booked and just about to pay £70 for a contact lens trial you would of thought good customer service would be just to do it.
But no, old moody pants in her rude tone decided she wasn't about customer service as she would get no commission from a glasses and lens order from me, but do you know what, my choice on where I get the contacts from and told her to forget that order and I'd go elsewhere which I have done, never to return again to Goldsmith Webb in Rochford whilst Miss Rude Moody Pants is still there lol.
Oh, when I went to another opticians today to get the Contact Lenses the super friendly Optical Assistant checked my PD for me, and was as I thought 70

Great Opticians

This Opticians has a fantastic ethos with great customer service.
All the team are pleasant and very helpful.
Nina the Optometrist is extremely thorough with my yearly eyesight examination and inspires confidence to return each year!

Great family practice at Chelmsford

I have been seeing Luke at the Chelmsford branch for many years and have gotten to know the team . They have always been helpful and friendly when choosing glasses and Luke has always been professional when testing and talking about my eyesight. Recently he recommended a surgeon Prof Aggarwal to see about cataract surgery and following up on that recommendation I am now glasses free for the first time in 50 years . An excellent practice and to say thanks .

First class team at the Rochford branch.

I have to say that once again the team at the Rochford branch in Essex have done a fantastic job in meeting my requirements.
My prescription is somewhat complicated yet they keep me supplied with contact lenses and spectacles that are both comfortable and suitable for my requirements.
Just recently I asked for some specific spectacles along the lines of an older style bifocal (as my prescription is not suitable for varifocals), and the team lead by Ruby came up trumps. Leeana, Lucy, Maureen and Susan followed through ensuring that I was kept informed and supported throughout with Mr Patel doing an exacting job on working out my ideal prescription.
Fantastic job people, keep up the great work.

Disappointed

Most expensive optician around and the service from the staff was poor to say the least , given my contact lenses and told to wear them in the wrong eyes , asked for 6 months of lenses and only received 3 , appointments cancelled 5 mins before I arrived after taking time out of work . One optician told me I could t wear contact lenses in my trade and the other one said that lots of his customers wear contact lenses in my trade ! Booked an eye test which is around £49 and the staff told me I needed a check to see the health of my eyes so I could order more lenses , when I finished my appointment I was charged £110 then the staff told me that I had had a contact lens appointment as well as an eye test 😡

Over all I wouldn’t recommend this company as the staff that work at the front desk really have no idea what they are doing .

Not what I had hoped for

About 4 years ago I bought a pair of frames and Rodenstock varifocal lenses for just over £600, they were actually in a 30% sale so the cost was supposed to be over £900. What I was looking for was a pair of frames that would last me for years, so I was recomended a pair of Porsche 8241 frames by a director of the Chelmsford store. The lenses are superb but should be at the price, but with the frames after a little over 18 months I noticed lines in the frames around where the frames go behind the ear, i thought it must be a design thing but it gradually got worse, in April I visited the Chelmsford store where my wife was purchasing a new pair of glasses, I spoke to the director who recommended the frames initially, he confirmed they were cracks in the plastic and that should not happen, over 4 months later I have heard nothing, the cracks are now turning into pieces of falling plastic as if they were decomposing ,I cannot express how disappointed I am, lets not forget these frames with lenses could have cost me nearly £1000, obviously i did not get what I paid for, I can only think that our custom was not wanted, very sad.
