Booked Holly Tree Cottage through Good Life/Original Cottages. Fantastic! Super clean. Really well appointed. Genuinely nothing we could of needed. Even had a bread maker, slow cooker & a pay phone. Loved the informative texts etc. We called in to the local branch Elterwater where staff were fab. We said we loved the welcome pack and they asked if we liked the biscuits. We said we didn’t get any and they were most apologetic. In the time it took to walk back to the cottage (1 mile) they had driven down to it and posted biscuits through the letterbox with a smilie face on the bag! Super service! We will use them again and hopefully it will be just as fab!

Hidden Nook, Windermere

Arrived to see the cleaners go in and out in 20 mins. Carpets that were ground in filthy, layers of dust under radiators, overwhelming damp smell in bedroom which came from the electrical supply (in bedroom) that was damp and disgusting.
Brought this to the attention of the company, who were apologetic.
Apparently i should, as per T&C's, complained during my stay and not the last day - 3 short days away and so making the best of it was my option, plus you can't fix damp instantly and there was no where else with availablity as I checked. The resolution is a meeting with the housekeeping team and taking it up with the owner and hope to see you again - urm no, you wont. None of that is hugely helpful to me but I paid £572 upfront and so clearly they have the money and don't care.

We were looking for an immaculate cottage in the Lake District preferably Keswick location. We found 'Corner Cottage' on the Good Life Lake District website, it is in a beautiful village Portinscale just a few minutes from Keswick. However after booking and then going on Trustpilot I was a bit concerned because of the review on here which was my worst nightmare. However I have to say once we drove up outside we knew it was going to be perfect. The photos showed it to be exactly what we were looking for and somewhere pet friendly. We were provided with the details to obtain the keys which was very simple. Arriving into the cottage what I have to say is that it is absolutely precisely as in the photos. It is immaculate, well positioned and even though it is a pet friendly cottage there is no indication what so ever a pet has ever been in it. Fresh clean smell as well. The cottage has a large entrance with plenty of hooks for coats and also stand for boots/shoes. There are umbrellas if needed. It has a large bench to sit and take off boots. In this area also a cupboard with hoover etc. In the entrance also a foldable blanket if you wish to picnic. Through the door is a beautiful sumptuous lounge with log burner and plenty of seating, tv, lots of information on the local area/maps lovely lamps/coffee table. Into the kitchen on the left is an immaculate toilet with basin and the kitchen is beautiful. There is a large gas hob (it lights itself) and electric oven. Table to seat four people. Large fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher all crockery/plates/pans/baking trays/glasses of every sort/microwave/kettle/cutlery/cooking utensils/cloths for sink and cleaning/all liquids for washing up/bin bags/chopping board/bread bin/tea towel/oven glove - basically everything you need in a kitchen (even a corkscrew....) so you don't need to worry about bringing anything, it's all there. Also all the crockery and everything in cupboards in kitchen are immaculate. Up some stairs on the right is the main bedroom, it is so pretty and beautifully presented. I have to say the bed is so comfortable, the best sleeps provided by a great quality mattress. All bedding immaculate. Two side tables with lamps and accessible sockets for charging phone/tablets. There is a tv, full length mirror, wardrobes, drawers, dressing table/mirror with hairdryer and good accessible socket for sitting at the table to dry hair. Two chairs and table. Blinds and also curtains. The en-suite bathroom has a toilet, large bath with a shower. Good shelf for putting your bits and pieces on, shaver sockets and mirror. Also sink and also a separate shower with over head shower and regular shower. All towels and bath mat provided. Bedroom two (on the left hand side of stairs) has en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet, sink, shaver sockets, towels and mat provided. This room is either a twin or moved into a double, again tv, wardrobe, drawers, full length mirror, side tables with easy accessible sockets for charging. This property is beautiful, it has excellent double glazing (not that it's needed as quiet village). It is extremely clean, precisely like the photos. We enjoyed staying here very much and intend to return. Therefore I highly recommend the property and also our dealings with the company have been excellent, all instructions clear making it an easy check in and check out process. Also upon departure it is requested you remove the bedding and it is at this point you see the immaculate pillows and immaculate mattresses on all beds. Thank you we had a fabulous stay.

I would love to leave a review of our cottage but sadly one of our party caught covid. So this is a review of the companies policy to "book with confidence"
It took a bit of them making sure I hadn't just changed my mind which is absolutely fair but they have been true to their word and rebooked our holiday for a later time. In fact they honoured their word in other ways but we dont need to go into that.
From that perspective I cant fault them and I look forward to a re-booked 60th (61st now) for my missus.
I would just like to say thankyou to all at GLC and cant recommend them enough.

DIRTY SHEETS IN HOLIDAY COTTAGE ELTERWATER

A warning about disgusting hygiene & cleanliness we experienced at GOOD LIFE LAKE DISTRICT COTTAGES.

There was human faeces in the shape and position of somebody’s buttocks where they obviously sat on the white duvet cover. It is preposterous that the company tried claiming it was caused by the laundering process and refused to accept it was a human deposit but nevertheless it is totally unacceptable that it was left in this way?!? Also, when we removed the duvet cover, the duvet itself was covered in dirty marks and to cap it all, when we removed the sheets at the end of our stay we found that the mattress protector was ripped (although apparently they had “replaced the duvet, sheet and protectors”). Surely any reputable company would make more of an effort when changing the bed after my complaint to ensure that replacements were good quality rather than old and tatty?!

I have photographs showing the poor level of cleanliness and hygiene but I don't think I can upload them here. Suffice to say that I can support everything with photographs.

I was also appalled at the poor communication, including an insulting initial offer of compensation (“£50 as a voucher for another booking with The Original Cottages or The Good Life”) and a refusal to escalate my complaint hence I had to search companies house and other online sources to track down the Company Secretary and Chairman (neither of whom have replied to or even acknowledged my complaint to date).

I will never use Good Life Lake District Cottages (@goodlifelakedistrictcottages) or their parent company The Original Cottage Company Ltd (@originalcottages) or the Holiday Home Management Company Yorkshire (@holidayhomemanagementyorkshire) who manage the cottages.

Katie Lake was amazing helping us book our holiday. My brother turns 50 the week before 2 households are allowed to be in a cottage so she helped us very competently, knowledgeably and swiftly to secure 2 cottages close to each other to allow us to spend time outside during the week. Katie's customer service and personality are a real credit to your company.

Stayed in the most remote cottage near
Ambleside. We chose it for it's remoteness. Stunning scenery, and the most charming 17th century cottage. It was lovely and clean and comfortable. I had no problems and would definitely book again next year.
