Honest, communicative and knew the market

Richard kept in touch with us over the years and when we were ready to sell he knew the market and gave us a realistic price guide and he and Mandy managed the sale well. They were communicative and professional. We also purchased our new property through them and we can't fault the service or price.

We recently completed our house…

We recently completed our house purchase with the help of Teresa and Lucy at Goodman & Lilley, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for better support throughout the process.

From start to finish, they have been absolutely amazing — professional, proactive, and incredibly reassuring at every stage. Buying a home can be stressful and overwhelming, but Teresa and Lucy made everything feel manageable. They kept us fully informed, responded quickly to any questions, and went above and beyond to keep things moving smoothly.

Their communication was excellent, and we always felt that we were in safe hands. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and their friendly, approachable manner made a huge difference during what could have been a very stressful time.

We are so grateful for all their hard work and dedication and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Teresa and Lucy at Goodman & Lilley to anyone looking to buy or sell a home.

Highly recommend

Last year we sold our flat and then bought a house.We used this agency when buying a house and we can highly recommend it. Everyone is very helpful, cares about their customers and answers any questions very quickly. I can say that we regret not choosing them from the very beginning to sell our flat. We chose Ocean and were disappointed. G&M offered us much more attention and assistance.

Undervalued & oversold

First used this agent to value our house, which they undervalued. Agent came gave us a low asking price, but tried to convince us as they had some ‘ready to go’ buyers who had lost out on another property in the area. Despite us explaining that the other property was smaller, and with less desirables such as large garden, offstreet parking, extension etc would only budget slightly on proposed sale price - we went with another agent that agreed with what we valued it at and got a sale ABOVE the highest price GL were intending to start with in the first place. Clearly wanted a quick sale at lower price.

We then found a house for sale with GL. Having agreed to raise our offer 4 times (the last two times on the basis that that would ‘seal the deal’), they suddenly announced that a new bidder had come in (less than 2hrs before COB on the day we were told our 4th bid would seal the deal) and so would we increase a 5th time! Clearly manipulated us to where they thought they could get more in a bidding war - so we pulled out. The initial negotiator also did not have the courage to tell us, left it to a manager and then emailed us a few days later saying ‘i assume so and so were in touch, good luck with your search’. No-one had got in touch to explain. Overall, poor service from both angles of a house sale/purchase. Avoid.

Appalling Communication from Goodman & Lilley, Henleaze Branch, Bristol

This review is very late as it took time to resolve our complaint, but we have recently been successful in claiming compensation from Goodman & Lilley (Henleaze, Bristol) for their appalling level of service to us as sellers (Summer of 2023). Our complaint was escalated to The Property Ombudsman in 2024 who found various shortcomings in their service to us. Our complaint mainly was that Goodman & Lilley failed to inform us for 10 weeks (17 August – 24 October 2023) of very significant problems they were having with our proposed buyer who had stopped all contact entirely the very moment his offer was accepted. This was a massive “red flag” and we most definitely should have been informed. But instead, Henleaze branch merely bounced around their growing concerns between themselves within their office only. We had ONE email (no phone calls) from the sales progressor during this entire time and had no response at all to our email. Being blissfully unaware of the situation, we thought we were on the verge of exchange with draft contracts being sent to his solicitor, but we were actually right back to square one. We feel the Branch Manager and our sales progressor are particularly culpable, but actually anyone else from that branch that knew and failed to tell us are accountable. They badly let us down. By late October it was too late, we found out ourselves what was happening and by then we’d lost very valuable time. In November 2023, whilst our Stage 1 Complaint was still in progress, we put in writing twice to the Branch Manager that our property was NOT to be relisted. To our astonishment, we found out via their Operations Manager in April 2024 (a Stage 2 Complaint) that G&L Henleaze went ahead regardless and relisted our property in November 2023 without our knowledge and consent. I would strongly urge potential sellers to think very carefully before using Goodman & Lilley and ask yourself whether you can afford to risk losing valuable time and if you’re content at being kept totally in the dark of important issues should they arise. Please spare yourself the extreme stress we went through. We would highly recommend OCEAN ESTATE AGENTS who successfully marketed, sold and completed on our property in just 12 weeks! Now that’s fantastic service…very well done Ocean Estate Agents, Westbury-on-Trym!
