We have a 2022 Kia EV6 38000km LR rear wheel drive fitted with factory 235/55 R19 Kumho Ecsta PS71 EV OE 105V tires/tyres.
Recent experience with left front heavy vibration (read “I think a wheel is loose!”) meant the vehicle was trucked back to the Kia dealer after the AA deemed it unsafe.
Dealer could find nothing wrong claiming it was because “wheel balance weights had moved” ignoring the fact there was no observation of issues the morning after the event. So the weights moved perfectly back? YEAH RIGHT!
Kia dealer rebalanced wheels and advised to provide further experience issues if they arise.
Another trip 3 weeks later and again major issues with vibration but not as bad as before.
Tires checked at Goodyear Autocare Fitzroy and the owner already had a vision of what was happening, based on his own experiences and confirmed as they discovered the foam sound deadening material had detached from the left front tire wall and was largely clumped into one part of the tire, hence unbalanced.
We had already realised the issue occurred both times after traveling at a legal higher speed area (110km/hr) and resolved by leaving overnight where the tires had cooled.
The foam had detached from the tire wall on the left front, was partially detached on the right front tire and both rear wheels were loose where the foam fabric could be lifted in areas from the tire bed.
Replaced all tires with Continental e-contact tires.
Quieter, better road holding, seeing construction of the tire sound deadening it’s FAR better than the ones we had.
Beware Kumo BUT the Goodyear Autocare Fitzroy was stunning in service, knowledge and professionalism. From phone discussion at ~8am to getting tires from 250km away and fitting by 3:30pm with full explanation that was very clear. HIGHLY recommended.
