Government Gateway is rubbish

Government Gateway is rubbish. Still a Beta test site after many years. I wanted to get a yearly summary of my income, tax paid etc. I have 6 different private pensions on which I pay tax, plus Old Age Pension. All it needs to to show a simple Statement, but no it shows some info from P60's recieved with links to other info. This is for each income stream. I then have to manualy write all the bits of information down and add it all up to priduce my own statement, similar to what I get from my bank. It should be simple to do on the website. I wonder how many billions was spent producing this aweful website. Note I spent 35 years developing and designing computer systems and this government one would have been thrown out by any of my business users.

Absolutely useless good for nothing…

Absolutely useless good for nothing website. Very difficult to use, agents are difficult to understand on the phone and are extremely unhehpful. I believe they are trained to be difficult so people dont stay on the phone due to frustration. Quick enough to take your hard earned cash, but stall on repaying
what youre owed back, and if you ask for the interest they have made witholding your money it's a point blank no. An employer can be sued for that, the same rules should apply to HMRC. Website is useless not fit for purpose and as difficult to understand as the employees on the phone. I complained
directly to HMRC and have not even had the coutesy of a reply. Pull your finger out and sort out your website and call operators who are extremely unhelpful and rude.

Absolutely unfathomable webSHITE

The government website is once of the worst websites i’ve ever had to use, taking 3-5 minutes for each page to load. Needing to do student finance for uni, took 1 hour to create an account and another 1 and 20 mins to sort out the finance. With the website accessible to hundreds of thousands of people, i cannot fathom how awful trying to use the website was. not only this, refreshing the page would send me all the way back to the beginning. as a student trying to do a levels i do not have the time to be sat trying to sort out something which should take maximum 30 minutes for over 2 hours. Sort it out this is disgusting.

FRAUD The given Immigration gov phone number…

The given Immigration gov phone number 03007906268 is fraudulent. One goes through the options to try and speak to someone to help with IHS and UKVI payment on line and was asked to pay 69p before one gets to talk to a human. They take your credit card details and charge £8.28 instead of 69p. THIS IS FRAUD.

Tw weeks from flash to bang. It doesn't get better than that.

I needed to register for probate after a family death and I was dreading the whole thing having done it before it became possible to do it online.
The whole process was a lot easier than filling in the 20 page form and because I could make the legal declaration sitting on my sofa (rather than traipsing 40 miles to the nearest family court) I saved myself time and money.
I was resigned to waiting up to six months for the whole thing to be processed but was shocked to have been informed that probate had been granted within two days of posing the original will - and to have received the grant through my letterbox within two weeks of filling in the online form and pressing send.
Wow. Fast and efficient.

Login Problems Despite Using Service Recently and Verifying Identity Months Ago

Verified identity months ago, logged in using same details twice, as recently as mid April to do company related stuff but for some reason it just stopped letting me log in, saying password was wrong - nothing changed my end, still using same fingerprint-accessed password as always. Same on app. Utter frustration followed and I actually ended up in tears towards the end of this 3hr ordeal: called the helpline who was someone working from home with a child in the background - just a bit off putting while I was stressed and frustrated at what should have been a 10 minute simple job, so needlessly long story short: she said I had to create yet another Account for a different email and then contact Companies House to link it to the company. Turns out this was incorrect, it’s just a case of clicking a couple of buttons to add the company to the new account…then original job done in 10 mins, 3hrs after. In between all that I’d been sent down numerous rabbit holes, holding in queues and dead end automated calls, spoken to Companies House twice, HMRC 'Extra Support' Helpline which I found quite patronising and did not live up to its name at all and just sent me a link and phone number for Corporation Tax, Online Services…all this because I couldn’t log in, when previously I could.

Changing a driving license. address .in 2026 on .gov ref: DVLA website, what a load of old rubbish....
step 1 log on to .gov enter your .gov login code ok I have that...
step 2, it asks you if your using a laptop , desktop or Mobile?
step 3, it then wants you to complete this process using your mobile, WHY??
step 4, it then asks you what kind of mobile ??
step 5, it now asks you to download a QR code that doesn't work
step 6, it then tell you this process has failed !!! try again so you do.
step 7, it now wants to do a face recognition buffering..... and fails
step 8, It now re directs you back to the computer desktop login process....
step 9, you now complete old address new address, Driving license No D.O.B

HORRENDOUS.

HORRENDOUS.
I needed to file on Companies House. In order NOW to log on to Companies House, you need to log in to GOV.UK.

They put you through various security, email checks for logging on, then they send you a FOUR DIGIT code to your mobile number. PROBLEM you try sorting this issue if you have, like many people changed or no longer has access to the registered mobile number.

Three hours later (and my filing on Companies house website would have taken me three minutes) I was still no further forward in logging on to GOV.UK. This was despite a nice Indian? Lady trying to help me.

This Country is an absolute disgrace in many many respects.

It was awful.

It was awful. Last time I renewed my driving license online it was easy. This time it had me tearing my hair out. I had to walk away and get help. That didn't mean it was easier. It just meant we went down the rabbit hole together.
Why are we forced to add an overly complicated app. It doesn't add anything positive to the process. Mine kept refusing to accept my address. In the end we input it manually.
Speaking to a family member I learned that it had taken them 2 days to change their address. They got so frustrated with it that they had to walk away.
I presume this is the digital ID that we don't want by the back-door.

GOV.ONE's new requirement for photo-id is overly complicated

I already had a GOV.ONE account, so when it came to renewing my drivers' licence; I didn't anticipate any problems. However, they've since introduced photo-id as part of the sign-in. Well, what an over-complicated way of doing things! I was instructed to download an app on my phone. I don't use apps on my phone, prefering to use my tablet, which has a sensible sized screen and a dedicated keyboard. I started the process on my desktop computer, tried to use another method of validation. I tried my passport - no joy. Then I tried putting in all the details of my drivers' licence - still no joy. I changed to use my tablet. I reluctantly downloaded the app on my tablet. But there was no way I was allowed to take a photo on the tablet, which I've done before on other apps - both documents and an actual photo of me. But, no I was told to use my phone. I don't use my phone in this way. I ended up having to drive 20miles to the nearest participating Post Office. Even then it wasn't simple. I had request a letter, state exactly what document I would present and do it within 16 days! What a ridiculously complicated procedure. Please simplify this photo-id requirement. A tablet can take a photo. Or a camera can take a photo and be loaded on to a desktop for uploading. I'm quite concerned now, as early next year I will need to renew my passport. This will involve uploading a new photo. I hope you simplify this procedure before I have to go through all this again. I spent a very long time trying to sort this out. I appreciate you want to help your customers to help themselves; but please be aware that people have different prefences as to how they use online services. Some prefer to access a website through their browser, rather than using an app. I use very few apps, and any apps I do use aren't on my phone. My phone is a fiddly little device to use for formal applications, and I prefer a proper keyboard.
I am very dischuffed with the software writers for this service. Please simplify the process. I'm not the only one, to struggle to sort this out.
