An excellent idea that works to an extent. We are using less smokeless fuel per burn, the heat generated is wonderful as it also warms up the chimney breast all the way up into the bedroom above, allowing that build up of heat to be released into the rooms slowly throughout the day. The downsides are the air control, when fully closed a great amount of air still enters the fire to keep it burning at a strong rate. This definitely is a design fault, because with further inspection, it could be seen that both air control plates were slightly bent and allowed air in around the top, bottom and sides of the plates. During the recent storms we could hear the whistle of wind being emitted by the fully closed air control plates, due to the Venturi effect of the wind blowing across the top of the chimney. Wouldn't it have been better to use either high temperature silicone or high temperature rope tape to prevent air leaking around the control plates when they are closed, surely this would give better air control. To conclude, with the stove door in its current design, we are guaranteed never to achieve an over night slow burn like we were accustomed to with the old open fire, which surprisingly had better air control.

This is a great idea for those of use that have an open fire that you may not use like me. Fitted my 16 inch fire place perfectly. It's great to have a real fire without the risk of embers flying out etc. Easy to clean and operate, although it's not as efficient with fuel as I was hoping, but saying that, I haven't had an open fire for years and I expect it is better than an open fire. Heat from it is OK, but it wouldn't heat my small bungalow as efficiently as my heat pump central heating does. But that was never the reason for the use of the fire. My use was purely to have a supplemental heat source as I am all electric ⚡ in my home. It does look nice and cosy and I think for the cost it is well worth having it.

We have been looking for this for years, and have asked so many fire specialist can we get a door on our open fire and there response was a blank look, but finally Mazona door is the answer. Solid well made easy to fit would highly recommend.

This fire door is brilliant! In some ways better than our multi fuel stove in our dining room. Huge window doesn’t lose the ambience of an open fire we love in our lounge and never expected the chimney breast to get so hot. Our large bedroom above has never been so warm for hours after the fire goes out. Massive bonus😊 Thank you Gr8 fires, wish we stumbled across this perfect solution years ago, Victorians would approve of its build quality! Pall-Ex delivery was perfect too, phoned next day to check details, the next day super friendly driver to say she 10mins away! Perfect.

Tried my new Mazona firedoor yesterday, and was very impressed by its efficiency. The room heated up quickly, it used far less fuel (wood) than my open hearth did, there were no stray sparks to worry about falling on the carpet, and it looks really good. (there were none of the fumes the information booklet warns about while the metal surface cures.) It was fitted by a joiner who seemed to have no problems with it, and there was very little mess involved. I'm delighted with my purchase, and would recommend it to anyone who has an open fire in their home.

Delivered well packaged and on a pallet, on time right to the door by a very helpful lorry driver. Way better than I was expecting in terms of build quality. Fitting was a bit of a puzzle to start with especially as our fireplace was slightly non-standard. However, once properly installed the difference it made to heating a large room was amazing. Having lived with an open fire for many years the comparison before and afterwards burning wood was clearly different. Our lounge warms up quicker, is less draughty, stays warmer for longer at night and goes through less than half the quantity of wood. Not only that, but it's given us control over an otherwise open fire and a level of safety that allows us to leave the room without concerns over a log falling from the fire into the surrounding hearth area, or sparks falling on the nearby rug/carpet. Even without a fire lit the room feels warmer on a windy day and it looks so good in our Edwardian room decor. This fire door was a serious answer to a huge quandry for us. We wanted a wood burning stove, but we didn't want to change our existing mahogany and tile fireplace surround that is over a 100 years old. The Mazona Fire Door was literally a perfect solution. I hate the bother of writing reviews (honestly this is probably only the 5th online review I've ever written in the past 15 years), but this Micon Fire Door is probably the best online purchase we've made with regard to keeping our house warm, and for it's price it deserves the praise.
