Grammarly is driving me mad! I don't block it because it does sometimes notice things that I have missed, but the dialogue literally appears over text that I am trying to edit! It also constantly makes irrelevant suggestions in the interests of formalising my writing style. It is really infuriating - but I am still giving it three stars for the occasions when it is genuinely useful.
An absolutely horrible app. Firstly it wants access to your computer OS. Secondly it is virtually impossible to delete the app. Just keeps saying it is open when it isn't. I would not trust it.
It gave me so many red lines and I clicked on them, but it was just blurry. So I signed out because I was annoyed and there are even more red line from grammarly. I clicked on the lines and it say sign back in! Like no way I hate this website. It keeps crossing out things while I am trying to write and it is so annoying. the line litteraly goes straight through my words.
There was a hacker in my account and tryed to log me out and grammarly know my passowrd so i tried to delete the account and there survise is terible no phone number i need to send email and wait a few howers. I am never having grammarly AGAIN.
The app is okay-ish. I’m giving it one star because they don’t offer refunds, so keep that in mind if you have a yearly subscription. I got charged today and tried to request a refund, but they simply don’t do that.
I miss the classic format so much! I can't stand the new format, and I struggle to use it. I feel like it's a massive step backwards and a stupid move from Grammarly. Don't fix what isn't broken!
Greetings,
I've been using Grammarly on a one-week trial. I was planning to ditch it because the price is very high, but I decided to keep it because it's excellent. My grammar is terrible, and it's the best application out there. I was going to try LanguageTool, but Grammarly has been more helpful. I do a lot of social media, so it comes in handy for people like me.
Every thing needs money. It's not Grammarly, its Scammerly(My anonymous friends told me to write the Scammerly part). I got like 10 suggestions to correct my writing before I had to get premium. Just add ads or something bro.
I was charged 199.79 Canadian dollars and only received $149.08 for the refund. It only takes one day for you to charge me $50 because I did not cancel the subscription one day before it was automatically renewed. It is not a courtesy, and you are stealing your customer's money. Your company is going to be disregarded very soon based on your attitude towards your customers. Shame on you and your company.
I was excited to use grammerly after the free frial on a monthly basis. I was shocked and insulted that they would take the whole year's amount. I submitted a ticket after wading through their less than helpful faq section.
I’ve been a Grammarly user for around two years and, until recently, I would have recommended it to anyone without hesitation. The premium version is genuinely excellent — particularly the “Tab to Fix” feature, which has been a game-changer for my workflow. It makes quick corrections seamless and efficient, especially when I’m typing quickly and making inevitable spelling mistakes.
However, I am now studying at postgraduate and master’s level, and my university uses Turnitin for all academic submissions. Unfortunately, this is where Grammarly becomes a liability rather than a tool. Turnitin flags any text Grammarly has interacted with as 100% AI-generated — even if I’ve only used it for simple spelling and grammar corrections, without touching any of the creative or generative AI features. This completely undermines the credibility of my work and puts me at academic risk.
The only way to avoid this issue is to stop using the premium version altogether. But the free version is so overloaded with intrusive upselling that it ruins the entire experience. Every click comes with premium prompts and gold highlights, which is frustrating and makes the product feel unusable.
Grammarly is an incredible tool, but it is fundamentally incompatible with the realities of academic life. I would strongly urge you to consider making the platform more academic-friendly — perhaps by introducing a dedicated “Academic Tier” that removes all AI-driven enhancements (so it won’t trigger Turnitin) but still includes essential tools like “Tab to Fix.”
Until then, I’ll have to stop using Grammarly for the remainder of my degree — not because I want to, but because I can’t risk my work being falsely flagged. It’s a real shame, because the core product is brilliant.
they took so much of my money with out my consent I am really sad cause they did this to me and they aren't allowed because I never gave my consent
The second star I'm giving is thanks to their basic suggestions which are nice, and can nicely fix basic grammar mistake. However...
Grammarly is definitely abusing with the yellow text suggestion if you're opting for a free plan. Basically, Grammarly is suggesting you to rephrase some of your sentences to make it sounds better, but you can't apply them it if you don't have a paid plan. The major problem is that for long text, most of it can become yellow, which is extremely annoying as I don't want to pay for a company that abuses premium pop-up every day. There is also no way to disable those suggestions for free. Begging won't make me pay, that's for sure. I've now switched to LanguageTool, which is way better and free without bugging me with pop-up recommendation.
This website is such a scam. I tried a free trial for pro with the knowledge that it would be billed at $12 monthly. Instead I was charged $144 for an annual package without my consent. Their customer support makes it impossible to contact anyone. Stay away from this company at all costs.
I have used this service effectively for years, but the most recent update has rendered the web version completely non-functional. I have zero intention of installing it as I don’t need another load of tech bros surveilling my activities (+ according to reddit, the same issues persist across platforms).
You charge £30 per month to effectively police what a person is allowed to write, while the underlying technology is so flawed it cannot even identify deliberate nonsense like a:ngasxjhad. You have taken a service that worked and broken it, but you still expect payment.
I am cancelling the subscription and looking for an alternative. Do not suggest I contact customer service; I will not invest my own time and money to keep reporting absolute failures that are your responsibility to fix before taking my funds.
Edit: this seems to be a misunderstanding as a I used the channel in the reply below to lodged a ticket and got through and got a prompt outcome. Still I don't know why my initial emails didn't get through and it was a frustrating experience not being able to contact them. Changed this from 1 to 3 star given there's good and bad experience.
I initially contacted Grammarly to request a refund for an annual subscription that auto-renewed by mistake. Unfortunately, I can’t use Grammarly since my company only allows limited third-party programs.
They asked me a few questions, and I tried to reply several times across 3–4 separate attempts but every single one failed to go through. I even reached out to their general support email (support at grammarly.com
), but that also bounced back.
I then went to their website to submit a support ticket, but the support page simply won’t load. At this point, it feels like their support system is either permanently down or I’ve been blocked so they don’t have to answer my query.
Overall, this has been a terrible after-sales support experience.

Beyond pissed off with this company. Literally stole money out my account and refuses to refund me. Count your F*ckin Days.

Cancel button hidden and hard to find — had to jump between app and Safari. Very stressful but I did cancel and delete it. Apps shouldn’t trap people into paying — make cancellation clear and easy.

I was charged 120GBP without notice despite not having had Grammarly premium for months and not signign up for a yearly subscription either. I cancelled my subscription a long time ago. It has been a day and it still has not been fixed. Also my account doesn't even have premium features on it.
