Madison was patient and kind and guided me through what needed to be done to resolve the situation. I gave her feedback at the end. I have to keep track of multiple details as a Physician. It may seem superfluous to help me set up a virtual card and order a new debit card, however to have to navigate a new system without assistance is added stress. I very much appreciated her help. However I did notice in her email that the virtual card is associated with my home address, this was not what I want and explained this to her in my call.
I opened a business checking account with Grasshopper Bank for my construction company, Fortitude Builders LLC, and my experience was one of the worst banking experiences I have ever had.
The account was successfully opened, funded, externally verified with Capital One, and fully onboarded. I received confirmation emails that:
* my account was active,
* my debit card was on the way,
* my external account was verified,
* and online banking was functioning properly.
After multiple login attempts and normal onboarding activity, I was suddenly locked out of my account on 5/14/26 without warning, explanation, or prior notice.
I then spent over a week making FOUR separate calls to customer service along with multiple chat sessions trying to get answers. Every representative gave vague or inconsistent information. Finally, on 5/22/26, I was informed that my account had been permanently closed and that my funds would eventually be returned to the original source “within an indefinite timeframe.”
No specific explanation was ever provided.
As a business owner, this is unacceptable. Contractors and small businesses rely on predictable access to operating funds, vendor payments, payroll, and transfers. Locking customers out without explanation and holding funds indefinitely creates serious operational and financial risk.
The most frustrating part was the complete lack of transparency and communication. I was treated like a liability rather than a customer despite following their onboarding process exactly as instructed.
Grasshopper markets itself as a modern business banking solution, but my experience was the opposite:
* poor communication,
* unexplained account restrictions,
* inconsistent customer support,
* and sudden account closure with no meaningful explanation.
I would strongly caution other business owners before relying on Grasshopper Bank for operational banking.
Grasshopper Banking has been the one reliable helpmate during big changes recently. I have gratitude for all involved with making my banking easy and efficient.
It's a Positive, highly recommended!
Service has been excellent, and customer service kind and helpfully effect.
5 Star!
Compared to fintech they are a 6/10. Compared to a regular bank they are a 9/10. The nice thing is they are an actual bank unlike mercury or others that are fintechs on top of a bank. Their customer service is pretty quick to respond. Their features are a bit lacking and their interface is a little meh but all and all very good bank. Whats a bank supposed to be anyways?
I was supposed to receive an email to see why I was denied to be able to open a savings account. I already have a checking with you!
I love Grasshopper bank. I switched because brick and mortar banks were struggling to support my digital business. Grasshopper offers outstanding digital tools and then also has real people available over the phone when I need it.
I don't mind filling out a survey form, but at least wait until you do something.

The absolute worst. You open an account, they ask you to fund it but they do not issue you your virtual debit card for more than 5 days. Square is instant, Quickbooks is instant. So you do NOT have access to your money.

This is a great bank with amazing customer service! The only problem I have is you have to wait to long for money to transfer. When you run a business and need to get workers money fast you can’t everything is 1 - 3 business days. I tried doing a wire and that took 5 days.

I'm enjoying the business account and would recommend this bank to other businesses

Everything is very easy, from application, to managing the accounts (even if you have multiple one). Customer service is always very precise, knowledgeable, courteous, and—above all—ready to find a solution. The rates are very competitive.
