I brought my Polo GTI+ from Gravelwoods on 7th December 2024. A month after purchase the EML light showed on my dash saying the battery was not charging. I took the car to my local VW garage for a diagnostic scan, this scan showed an intermittent generator fault, it also showed the same fault had been cleared on 8th October 2024 so was pre-existing when I purchased the car. I e-mailed Gravelwoods with the fault to have this repaired under warranty & I was told the warranty does not cover this type of fault as it was “wear & tear”! I then sent the Consumer Rights Act to Tony which clearly says they have 1 chance to repair a fault after 30 days & within 6 months. I was then e-mailed by Tony saying they would NOT be paying for the repair & do not quote Consumer Law to us as we are acting within it & you have purchased a used car? After a few e-mails stating they do have to repair this under the Consumer Act & if I had wanted no rights I would have brought privately he finally agreed to pay the majority of the cost. He then backtracked & said they would pay £250 towards the cost of the repair or I could take the car back to their garage for scanning etc. As I had lost all faith in them I was not taking my car back to them, the part alone was £467 without labour so not the majority as originally stated by him. Tony also stated that the alternator was a serviceable part but when asked the recommended replacement interval or anywhere stated such by VW, he had no answer and kept going around the houses.
Their “warranty” isn’t worth the paper its written on so if you have a fault be prepared for them to try to wriggle out of it. This seems to be a common theme on the reviews & I wish I’d read them before purchasing from them. I would never purchase from them again.
