This actually a very accurate painting of Custer's Last Stand. I recently visited the Battlefield the first week of June. There are granite markers to mark where the 7th Cavalry troopers fell and there is a steadily increasing stream of markers leading up to Last Stand Hill where Custer and the last 40 surviving troopers shot it out with the overwhelming Indian attackers. I feel Paxson's painting accurately captures their final moments.
