Disastrous experience with black Jaguar XF 3 litre
I would have given zero stars if it was possible.
On 17 January 2023 we bought a black Jaguar XF 3 litre car from G T Heritage Ltd (GTH). GTH is a small company with net assets of only £57K in the latest accounts. We started to experience electrical problems. One day I was driving at 70mph in the middle lane of the M40 when the car suddenly went into ‘restricted performance’ mode and the speed was abruptly limited to about 40mph. I steered onto the hard shoulder where I switched off the engine. I restarted the engine after a pause and normal operation seemed to be restored. That was an unpleasant experience. On other occasions the car displayed various warning signals. On 12 April 2023 the car flashed warnings and went into ‘restricted performance’ before completely ceasing to function.
On inspection, it was found that the car’s battery was sitting in a deep pool of brown water. I was advised that repairs would be extensive, and that the water might have caused long term damage which would only come to light in the future. GTH insisted that I should pay for a full diagnosis before it would review whether repairs were covered by the warranty. The three-month warranty was capped at only £500.
In accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015, I invited GTH to repair the car, but GTH ignored me. On 27 April 2023 I rejected the car in accordance with the Act. I had to hire a barrister and threaten to bring legal proceedings before I got my money back in September 2023.
GTH refused to accept or even discuss their statutory liabilities. They focussed solely on their warranty. They spun out everything for as long as possible. They said they would put the matter in the hands of their solicitors and did no such thing. Obviously they wanted me to give up and go away. These tactics made me waste a lot of money on hire cars etc. If I had not hired a lawyer I would have got nowhere.
I have now bought a car from an Audi main dealer. They gave me a year’s warranty capped at the value of the car. I converted it to a five year warranty at reasonable cost. I should have bought a car from a main dealer in the first place.
Great service
We recently purchased a lovely used BMW 5 series GT. The car was really well presented and runs like a dream. Communication throughout was great and we always new what was going on. All the staff were very approachable and friendly. We will definitely be returning when we are in need of a new car.
Thanks to you all.
Avoid at all costs
I bought my car on Dec 18th, had it for less than 3 months (within my warranty) before issues started appearing.
1. Battery was completely lifeless, it couldn’t be recharged and had to be replaced. This is not wear and tear of less than 3 months of having the car. I remember when I first bought it from them, they had to charge it before I drove away so there was obviously an issue to begin with. They asked me to get a diagnosis from a mechanic, which I did and would pay for the issue following this. Then refused to pay for the replacement of the battery.
2. The heater/air con only works on the 4th setting and not any of the others. It does not blow out at all on 1,2 or 3. It has not ever worked on these setting since I bought the car and they were aware of this but have said there is no issue with it and it works fine. When it clearly doesn’t work.
3. The offside front spring has snapped and they refused to repair or pay for the problem to be fixed. They gave the car back to me with this refusal, even though it was unsafe to drive and I had to get it back to Swindon. The offside spring was obviously in a bad condition when I bought the car and within 2 1/2 months it snapped.
All of these issues I had to pay for out for myself, despite being within the 3 months warranty and under false impression from the garage that they would deal with these issues.
I am completely distraught at the unsatisfactory customer care I have received whilst trying to resolve these issues with them. Ashley has made the whole experience really upsetting. I had to drive the car from Swindon to Henley for the service and repairs to be made and being a teacher getting the time off to do this was not easy. Ashley was aware that we’d arrive Wednesday morning, yet on arrival at the garage (around 10am) I was told the car wouldn’t be seen until 2pm. I was hoping to have a conversation with him as he’s been in conversations on the phone but the staff said he wasn’t in the office or they weren’t obliged to say where he was. However, it turned out he was in the office but clearly didn’t want to come out and talk to me himself regarding the issues I’ve been having. He was also so rude on the phone and offered no sympathy or courtesy and made it very clear that they will not be repairing the car and just offered the service (which was part of the purchasing deal as a service was due). So I then had to drive back to Swindon in a faulty, unsafe I am completely distraught at the unsatisfactory customer care I have received whilst trying to resolve these issues with you. Ashley has said that my Peugeot that I part exchanged had to be scrapped and seemed very annoyed about this. I am sorry this is the case but I was completely unaware of any issues with my old car. I am not mechanical and the car ran perfectly for me. It should be the responsibility of the garage to take the necessary checks to ensure you are happy with the vehicle before you go ahead with the part exchange.
Overall, my experience with this garage was awful to say the least. They are all happy and helpful before you buy but the after care is shocking! The only positive thing was the service from Luke, as we had to wait around all day he drove us into Henley which was very kind of him. The only helpful member of staff there.
Please avoid this garage and the…
Please avoid this garage and the director Ashley. I have worked with the public most of my life and I am shocked at his total unsympathetic, unprofessional, rude and angry manor. Probably not when he is selling you the car but on the follow up you are treated terribly. Look back through past reviews this year!! He would not come out of his office and face us, his staff said they were not obliged to tell us where he was and made out he wasn’t in the building but we knew he was. I have been dealing with this guy over the last couple of weeks as my daughter is a teacher and cannot get out of class to take phone calls. She has had a broken-down car which she has only had for less than three months - she bought the car from GT Heritage just before Christmas and it is still under warranty, yet they totally refuse to deal with the issues that need resolving. They say it is not covered under her warranty but within consumer rights she should be entitled for any faults to be dealt with that have been with the car since she bought it. I will not go into too much detail as she has been legally advised and is in the process of getting the work done herself. She has been left with no option but to go through the courts as these people take no responsibility and make every excuse not to follow through with after care. She will write her reviews when she has dealt with the problems and had her car fully inspected. So unprofessional to the point they let her drive back along the motorway with a fault that could have been dangerous. The car she part exchanged was a cheap car she had through uni years and he is saying it was faulty, they are the professionals, they should have checked the cheap trade in as it was an old cheap car, she is not a mechanic and wasn’t aware of this issue. Compared to the car she has bought from them for more than twelve thousand pounds, which is a massive amount of money for her on a teachers wage and in a first few years of her career. We went back to them yesterday for the service that came with sale and to be told they will not cover any of the other problems as not covered by the warranty. And saying me her mother was abusive and bad tempered! I have never been bad tempered in my life, upset that you can treat my daughter in this awful way and would let her drive home on the motorway with a dangerous fault that you found in the process of the service. You even sent her a photo of the broken offside spring and still felt no decency in helping her. I strongly advise you to avoid this company and check out this year's reviews as the company. It is obviously not following through on their after care and treat customers terribly once they have made their sale. Avoid at all costs.some very beautiful very expensive cars in the showroom and I imagine that’s these buyers get treated better than the little people. The only positive thing was a lad called Luke so helpful and even drove us into town, when the others pointed us in direction of bus stop that had a two hour wait and it was so cold. We had travelled a long way and they knew this but changed service from 9am to 2pm Bev Neal
Beware - Please read before buying from GT Heritage
I recently had the displeasure of dealing with GT Heritage, and I must say it was a complete disaster. I purchased a 2016 Nardo Grey Audi RS3 with only 33k miles on the odometer, only to find out that I had made a huge mistake. I had the car for 15 weeks and after only 5 weeks of driving, the engine management light came on and my local garage quoted me £26k to fix the car, which needed a new engine, turbo and more.
When I brought the car back to GT Heritage, they did nothing to address the root cause of the issue, but instead accused me of remapping the car, which was completely false. Instead of fixing the underlying problems, they only removed the remap and cleared the fault codes. To add insult to injury, the courtesy car they provided me broke down on the motorway in freezing temperatures.
After a couple of months of trying to get answers and a resolution, I was finally able to get a refund, but not before the experience cost me around £5000. And to make matters worse, GT Heritage has listed the car for sale again, even at a higher price than before.
I found it impossible to get real answers or solutions over the phone, as all communication had to be done via email. I would never recommend GT Heritage to anyone and would advise anyone to avoid them at all costs. Based on my experience, I would give them 0 stars if it were possible.
Great Customer Service
Just bought my 2nd car in 3 years from GT Heritage and although Sales staff had changed the friendly & efficient customer service had not.
It even transpired that post sale I noticed a missing piece of standard equipment that we had all just assumed was there but turned out it wasn't. To their credit they did not quibble and replaced the item at their expense. Very reassuring and a refreshing change to the normal Used Car Dealer stereotype. I would not hesitate to recommend Ashley, Ciaron or the Team at GT Heritage to anyone.
Avoid!!!
This my experience and I normally buy from main dealers, but I went against my head and ran with my heart on this one!
…The initial sale was nice and friendly, but the after sales a very poor and this company does not care once vehicle has been sold!
I was sold a car riddled with faults, it arrived with faults which all should of been caught on the supposed ‘pre checks’ they carry out (they don’t)
Now I have a vehicle I’m paying for , I can’t drive it and I am car-less with a family this is difficult when life runs around having a vehicle
I have been in the motor trade for over 25 years in various roles and I have never seen such a bad service or disregard to paying customers.. my advise would be to avoid these smaller business and stick with the main dealers, not saying you won’t get issues with a main dealer , but with main dealer things do get resolved, these smaller ‘traders’ are in it for the quick buck and not to provide top class services
I hope this helps others before you get caught out like myself
At the very least you should have an independent inspection carried prior to any purchases or if any require any advice or decent dealers/inspection companys let me know I can help as I have used a couple in the past…
Be wary when buying a car from here
Be wary when buying a car from here, when things go wrong they pass the buck and expect the customer to be out of pocket to have something resolved (check their response for the buck passing!), my rear brake pads were so worn that it should have failed an MOT but both their mechanics and the Local MOT station passed them with no advisories! The callipers ended seizing up and I had to drive back to them to have them repaired,(a cost to me on fuel and time off work) they accused me of ragging my car around! Very pleasant to you before buying the car but that's about it, after you buy the car be prepared for them not to care about you when something goes wrong! And this review is based on all of the things going wrong not just a door seal! Brake pads, broken trims, broken wing mirror, and outside of a warranty? When you spend 8k on a car you expect it to be in a safe standard at the very least, I wasn't going to bother reviewing but the lack of care and customer service skills is really shameful and they left me no option so this is a warning for anyone looking to buy a car from them
brought a car of gt heritage, biggest mistake ever
brought a car of gt heritage, paid cash.. advert was displayed with FULL service history for the abarth 595. me putting my trust into the dealership and not checking paperwork was the biggest mistake ever, am an idiot yes, turned out the car had first year service history missing and not carried out,. i only found this out from staff at the abarth service center when i took car in for a service. what made it worse was GT heritage were also an RAC approved dealership at the time, where they also confirmed on the 82 point check that the car had FULL service history, which was of course not true. they've since left RAC and are no longer part of the scheme and they've also made huge changes to their website, courtesy me complaining. please do not be fooled with the cars they house in stock, and the fake smiley faces, please if you're buying a car of these guys, please please check all paperwork documents history everything and that it matches the advert, and make sure the car is all in good working order as i also come across faults i had to replace myself, disgusting.
