Good, but too expensive for 2023.
Haspa has a pleasant and modern branch in almost every neighborhood in Hamburg and generally the bank gives you a feeling of security. They also allowed bringing in kilograms of coins for free. Used them for 10 years and will be sad to be switching to another bank. Sadly there is no such thing as a customer loyalty program in Germany and loyal customers get higher fees instead of discounts. Same happened with my energy and phone data provider, instead of awarding old customers, they start charging the double prices.
First problem is 10 Eur monthly fee for a simple Girokonto. Not credit card, not discount/cashback card, nothing, just a plain record in the computer database storing your name and an integer amount of money. Furthermore, competition offers personalized cards, cash-backs, credit cards, premium plans for this price.
Second problem, unknown fees. I wanted to travel outside the EU, so went to the branch and asked the employee, what are the fees and how the fees are calculated. Employee looked through a huge white folder for some minutes, but could not provide me any information on the bank fees. However, this problem exists with other banks too.
Third problem, some branches are closed before their opening time stated on the door (i.e Holstenstraße 115 - 117, 22765 Hamburg).
Last but not least, mobile tan generator is complicated to set up. I have a new phone now, but I have no idea how to transfer the app onto a new device.
P.S.
In Germany a Girokonto (paying account) is a must, be it work, rent, buying, registering household etc.
In my opinion, every obligatory civil instrument should be taken from the tax money.
