Substandard Work, broken promises and ongoing concerns

Substandard Work, Broken Promises and Ongoing Concerns

This company carried out cavity wall insulation and installed ventilation vents at my elderly father’s home under a grant scheme.

Since completion, the property is noticeably colder than before. Two vents were installed (kitchen and bathroom), and they have made the house extremely cold. They also allow strong cooking odours from a nearby restaurant to enter the property, leaving the house smelling heavily of food.

The quality of workmanship is poor. The vents are not straight and are not flush to the wall. There are visible sealant drips running down the exterior brickwork where drilling has taken place. The finish is untidy and well below what should reasonably be expected.

When Warren, the local contractor, attended the property, he acknowledged that the quality of the work was poor and assured my father he would return to rectify it. Despite that promise, no remedial work has been carried out and further attempts to resolve the matter have been unsuccessful.

No payment has been made directly by my father as the work is being claimed under a grant scheme. The company is now requesting a copy of his electricity bill in order to process their claim. We have made it clear that no documentation will be provided until the installation is brought up to an acceptable standard and the issues are properly addressed.

My father agreed to this work in good faith after being told it would improve his home and reduce heating costs. Instead, it has caused stress, discomfort, and worry. As his family, we are now handling the matter on his behalf.

If this situation is not resolved promptly, we will have no option but to raise our concerns formally with the relevant grant administrators and regulatory bodies for further investigation.

Based on our experience, vulnerable homeowners should proceed with extreme caution.
