HERTZ SALTA (ARGENTINA) – Such A Bad Experience Never Again

HERTZ SALTA (ARGENTINA) – A DEEPLY FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE

The Salta region in Argentina, with its spectacular salt flats, vineyards, and bodegas, is perfect for exploring by car. Unfortunately, based on our recent experience, I must strongly advise against using the Hertz office in Salta. What should have been a straightforward car rental turned into a source of constant stress and disappointment.

SALES PRESSURE AND EMPTY PROMISES
When signing the rental contract, we faced significant pressure to purchase comprehensive insurance coverage. The sales pitch came with explicit promises of roadside assistance and 24/7 emergency support. The assurances sounded convincing – reassuring, even. It's frustrating to realize, in hindsight, how hollow those promises turned out to be.

ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE – NOWHERE TO BE FOUND
Within just 11 days, we needed assistance twice. That's when reality hit – hard. The emergency number was systematically unreachable. Our calls simply went unanswered. Despite the expensive insurance and all the pre-contract promises, the promised support was nowhere to be found. We were left stranded, frustrated, and questioning why we had paid premium prices for what amounted to non-existent service. Only after contacting Hertz's national number in Buenos Aires and filing an explicit complaint about Salta's complete lack of support did we finally receive help (including a vehicle replacement). The fact that it took escalation to the national office just to get basic service is telling.

VALUE FOR MONEY – SERIOUSLY LACKING
The initially received vehicule had over 70,000 kilometers on its odometer – so much for Hertz's reputation for providing newer, well-maintained vehicles. Combined with the absent customer service at critical moments, the value proposition is simply poor. The gap between what was promised during the sales process and what was actually delivered is substantial and deeply disappointing.

NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT
During our 11-day trip, we encountered two other Hertz customers experiencing similar problems:
At our hotel in Salta: a Dutch couple complained about the dangerously worn condition of the right front tire on their rented Ford 4WD pickup. Hertz Salta refused to replace it, arguing that according to Argentine traffic regulations, the tire was 'still acceptable' for continued driving – a response that prioritizes cost-cutting over customer safety.
At our hotel in Cafayate: a French couple in distress because the tailgate of their 4WD pickup wouldn't open, and they couldn't reach Hertz Salta through the provided emergency number. Sound familiar?

FINAL THOUGHTS
The Salta region remains a beautiful destination that deserves stress-free exploration – choose a rental partner that can actually deliver on that promise.
My advice: thoroughly research alternatives before approaching the Hertz Salta office. If you still decide to go with Hertz Salta, insist on obtaining a personal mobile number from a staff member before signing the rental agreement, and test it on the spot. Don't make the mistake of trusting their printed emergency number – we learned that lesson the hard way.

Car with a nail in a tyre

Car with a nain in a tyre:

I rented a car for 3 days , starting march 30 , at 9 h 30 at the hertz office in Calafate, Argentina

Hertz El Calafate provided me with a car that had a nail in it, before I took it from your office.

This is documented by the photo I took when we reviewed the car with the camarero in front of the Hertz El Calafate office on Sunday march 30 at 9 h 43. , before I left the Hertz office.

I was shocked because when I brought the car back to the Hertz office, the responsible refused to acknowledge responsibility,

Since Hertz Calafate do not assume responsibility for this very unprofessional behavior , I strongly advise anyone Not to rent a car with Hertz Calafate office.

$4200 USD hold still not back after 10 weeks!!!

We had to use 2 creditcards and a $4200 USD hold on our creditcard as guarantee to rent a car for 2 days... After 10 weeks and multiple emails we still didn't get the $4200 USD dollars back, without ANY reason. It's like there is no customer service at all. I'm not even getting responses anymore... Now we have to activate our lawyer to get our money back.

Do not rent with this company!

We are in calafate and they have left us without a car because they do not accept revolut. On no web page does it say that revolut will not be accepted and that virtual cards are not accepted either. We have offered more than 5 cards, 2 of them being physical cards (revolut and wise), and 2 credit cards (revolut and bunq). None of them have been accepted.

Today we had a visit to the glacier of perito moreno (80€ per person for boat and entrance to the park 30€ per person) and now we will not be able to go to see it.

Beware

Beware! There is no help after 6pm even if you pay for warranty. We got stuck on a side road in deep sand and couldn’t make it up a hill and the road beyond was completely flooded. Since it was after 6 nobody could help us. We were far from a town and were told to walk or wait until morning outside in the cold. We were also quite low on gas. We ended up having our hotel owner come help us because Hertz was useless.

Awful experience renting a car here, my advice to anyone would be go with a different company.

We were given faulty tyre chains and then was demanded to replace them when they inevitably broke after hiring for only a day. Cost us 65,000 peso. I’m convinced this is a scam. Customer services were also extremely unhelpful. My advice would be to avoid all costs!

Totally worst experience of any rental car I did

The rental company charged me for damage to the car 6 hours after I returned the car. After the employee inspected the car, he confirmed that everything was OK. I signed the papers and left the parking lot. Then the company started telling me that I returned a damaged windshield and the employee did not have time to check the car because there were many other cars in the parking lot. I leave the conclusions to people planning to rent in this company.

Avoid

We had an incident with the car due to an unforseen climate event (which was actually very frightening) and they charged much more than the cost of the repair, they don't provide detailed information, just want to take the highest amount of money from you.... Avoid this company!!!!

This is the most horrible experience…

This is the most horrible experience ever renting a vehicle. For the amount paid for the rental, the car was horrible and old, definitely not worth the money. (Chevrolet Onix). The car started spilling gasoline while driving! I had to spend half a day getting a new one. This was a safety hazard! When I returned the broken car, they decided to charge me half a tank of gasoline. Of course, you give me a broken car that spills all the gasoline I put into it, and then you charge me again.

After that, the gave me another car and we went to Mar de Plata. In Mar de Plata, a "pelotudo" decided to throw rocks at the car breaking the windshield. I was sold insurance and at first, when I called they told me it was covered. When I returned the car they told me that it wasn't covered. When I rented the car I was not told what was covered, they just said: "it's covered". They charged 16,000 pesos for a windshield ($~500 dollars). After being given a car that was throwing gasoline, which is a safety hazard, the company didn't have the decency to help cover at least half the costs of the windshield for my previous troubles. These people are all for taking your money and not helping the customers.

So in summary:
1. Gave me a broken car, spilling gasoline. Then charge me for the gasoline spilled.
2. Sold me insurance without specifics. One person told me it was covered and another one told me it wasn't. They even talked about a "total" car insurance, which I later found out it doesn't exist. Then charge me $500 dollars.

Do you guys see where I'm going?

US clients BEWARE. If something were to happen, they'll do everything to get the money. They don't have a phone number to call either. Also, their only customer service email is misspelled in the official Hertz Argentina website (English version, Spanish version has the correct email) this gives you an idea to what type of service you are dealing with... When you finally get in touch with them it can take DAYS for them to get back at you... (They probably don't work and drink mate all day...) but to take your money? Faster than the speed of light...

And for the love of god DON'T buy their insurance, this is their money grabbing scam they live off... Most of USA credit cards already have this benefit and if you take theirs, the VISA benefit is voided...

I love Argentina, people from Cordoba are great!, but Buenos Aires? Ay mi madre.. they are the rudest people to deal with, they think they are better than anyone else in Argentina, they give a bad reputation to an otherwise beautiful country... If renting a car, make sure to not be in Buenos Aires...

To Whom it May Concern

To Whom it May Concern

I rented a car through Iguazú Hertz for Dec 27-30 through Expedia. When I arrived the Hertz dealer had already given away our car rental and had to dig through keys to find one. Finally we did get a car and drove away. Now coming from Arizona where there is no front license plate I did not think to look to see if there was one on the front of the car. I was only inspecting for scratches. We drove away but from the first police checkpoint we were stopped by them saying we had no front licenses plate. We showed the police and military the paperwork for the car rental and they told us we could drive and maybe spent about 1-2 Hour’s of our time with the car doing this as we traveled through each traffic stop around Iguazú and San Ignacio to the mission. We were even stopped by the National Guard and interrogated by them for a long time not sure whether we would be stuck there.

Upon returning the car I let Miguel know the inconvenience we had with this and he said he had to charge me 3000 pesos which was more than the car rental. He said there was no way we would have been able to take the car without a plate but with the rush of trying to find us a car with the mixup of giving our car away.

We had no time where we hit something or were driving off road and only knew it was not there. Whether the license plate fell off because it was not secure or was stolen at some point we are not sure.

I felt no understanding from the gentleman as there was a language barrier and when I asked to speak to someone in charge he called some office in BA but would not let me talk with the manager in BA and explain the inconvenience and anything. I understand my Spanish was not good enough to converse with Miguel but I feel this was not fair to charge me for something that I had no control over. I am also surprised that the insurance included in this rental would not cover something like this.

My parents and I use hertz a lot in our travels and neither of us will use them again due to this experience. We will certainly let our friends and family traveling to Argentina to not use Hertz car rental in the future.

unexpected surprises

Contact before arrival with Hertz.ar was good concerning use of car outside of Argentina.
While picking up the car I was confronted with a USD 121 fee for the border crossing document. Having an e-mail from hert.ar main office with a USD 65 fee, it was lowered to USD 65.
While picking up the car I was informed that in case of problems it was my responsibility (and costs) to bring the car to the Argentina border where they would take over. Very un pleasant surprise!!!
Giving feedback after the rental to Hertz. ar main office I was informed with a not so understandeble reply and a 1 day rental voucher for the future. Nice suggestion but unrelevant for a European customer. Hertz.arg has no connection with the Golden rewards program.

Chevrolet classic at El Calafate

We rented the car for one day.
The reception was rather simple, same was the return. The staff was professional and efficient,
I did not like the car. It was about one year old but looked much older and felt even older. I did not have enough confidence in it.
I would expected better cars from Hertz.
