Nice vehicle. Need more help with electronics in car. Still wondering what the extra charge on our credit card is for the day after we turned in nissan rouge. Please respond.

If you hate yourself, please go to Hertz! :(
If I could give the Hertz rental car, Raleigh Airport, North Carolina, less than a one star I would.
Their system would not work. I could not get my car. Then I find out that they don’t have the car. Then they can’t get me into any car that is the correct size. When they finally find one car that is the correct size of what I already paid for… They doubled the rental price!
Almost an hour wasted for absolutely nothing. The line of people waiting is probably about 18 people long and most of them have been here the entire time I have. All of their gates are shut down to get out of the lot except for one.
Avoid this place at all costs!
Terrible customer service and just keep…
Terrible customer service and just keep lying in order to do minimal work.
Been waiting for a deposit refund for over 1 month... Also owed a simple refund for over 2 weeks... Please avoid using hertz
They always want things there way.. Wether it be £41 for a an email described as admn charge... Or holding your deposit to ransom for over a month they will frustrate lie and simply take advantage of their customers... Very greedy and very expensive for the minimal amount of customer service... Disgusting and disgraceful... I've changed company and have a good experience elsewhere
Bad luck, or bad practice?
The unluckiest hire-car customer, or a systemic failure at Hertz and their suppliers?
In 2024 ( bear with me ) I hired a Toyota for a few weeks, and had no problems until the day before the return when the number plate literally fell off - while I was driving. Fortunately, despite the risk of entering the middle of a busy road, I was able to retrieve it. Upon returning the car the next day without the number plate attached, there didn’t seem to be any major surprise with ‘this kinda thing happens with these stick-on plates’ being the response. Hmmm…really?….was my response. If this is a known failure, is Hertz just expecting customers to deal with it? And what would likely happen if a car is returned without a number plate because the stick-on failure happens without the driver’s knowing, or it’s just too dangerous to try to retrieve it?
So, fast forward to July 2026, with another Toyota hired for a few weeks…..and it happens again! The number plate is spotted hanging by a single thread of a single stick-on and would again have just fallen off while driving. Only this time it happens in the middle of the hire period, which immediately causes problems as a quick google search shows there is a zero tolerance policy within the traffic regulations for driving without a number plate with a €60 on-the-spot fine and a no-driving order until the plate is reattached. And the (eventual) Hertz answer to this predicament? ‘Can you find a garage or car goods shop that stocks the stick-ons, or something similar and put the plate back on?’. This is what I had to do in order to avoid a fine and continue with my journey. What the response might have been had the plate been lost while driving, who knows? If, as happened on this occasion, upon return, the customer discovers an out-of-hours collection fee being charged despite the flight delay being communicated in the booking, just what extra charge is a customer likely to face because part of the car is actually missing?
So, is this just a very weird coincidence that it could happen to the same person on two separate occasions two years apart? Or, does Hertz need to take this seriously in terms of how widespread an issue it is? Which suppliers to the Hertz fleet are using stick-on number plates, and what quality controls are in place to ensure they actually work?
Wish I could give negative stars
Wish I could give negative stars. I made a reservation months ago for a truck to be picked up at the Sonoma County Airport. Went up to the desk told them my name and the service rep said “we don’t have any trucks here” when I asked why I was able to book a truck in a location that doesn’t have them he told me” I don’t know” I told him this was a big problem and his response was”YEP” and then proceeded to wave the next customer up to the desk. I was completely floored. He treated me like I was a bother and I ended up having to scramble to find another truck an hour and a half away… customer service does not exist at the Hertz in Sonoma County. Never will rent from them again and will be sure to share my experience with anyone who will listen. Seriously atrocious
I was misleaded with Fuel Puechase option
I was misleaded with Fuel Puechase Option when I rented a car at Salt Lake City airport. It is a nonfundable policy by Hertz. It doen't make sense that nobody can retrun a car with empty tank.
Car rental in Greece Athens airport
We had a group of 9 that rented (2) vehicles while in Greece. Upon return of the vehicles we were charged approximately 2000 euro over the originally quoted prices! We did ask for damage waiver ins but additional insurance was added (that was not requested) plus a VAT tax that was not originally quoted.
We do not feel the additions quoted were explained properly prior to our signature. We will not be renting through Hertz again. If you do rent through Hertz, make sure they explain what all the costs are before you sign no matter how rushed and ask for a detailed invoice. Otherwise will not receive a detailed invoice until after the car is returned. At least that was our experience.
I will never use Hertz again
I will never use Hertz again. First, when I picked up the rental car, in the Lexington, KY airport, it had only a quarter tank of gas. I took a photo of the instrument panel and filled the tank as soon as I could stop. Nine gallons @ 3.69. When I turned in the vehicle on July 29, the attendant would not make an adjustment. Secondly, I was charged a $200 deposit. If that is not credited to my credit card in a reasonable time, I will file a claim with my USAA card. I will also suggest that USAA not continue to be affiliated with Hertz. In the future, I will check with client reviews before I rent an automobile. Hertz reviews are generally bad. E. Phillips, Lexington, KY.
I had a reservation for Salem
I had a reservation for Salem, Mass. I reserved it and paid a deposit. They didn't have cars at the pick up time so they asked me to come later. Fine. I asked if I would have a car that day, and they said I would. I came 30 minutes before closing, and the branch manager told me there were no cars. Zero help to rebook. I was stranded in Salem. They wouldn't give me a refund for the car either. This was bizarre.
Beware of Hertz "franchise" scams
I rented a car in Savannah for a weekend away. When it was time to leave, all flights to NYC were cancelled. My rescheduled flight for the next day was also cancelled. Because I am the primary caregiver for two elderly parents, there was an urgency for me to get home. I tried to contact the Savannah office by phone and email to advise them that I would be driving to NY and dropping the car at JFK. There was zero response. Upon contacting Hertz 800 number, I was advised that the location was a franchise location and they couldn't alter my reservation. At no time was I made aware that I wasn't dealing directly with Hertz. I made my reservation on the Hertz app. After returning the car to JFK, I received an additional charge of over $1400.00 plus a yet to be explained charge of $368. I have tried to contact the Savannah location and received no help. Hertz customer service says I must deal with the franchise but I have had no luck in even getting an answer from them. I am fully aware that there would be an additional charge for returning to a different location, but considering the circumstances, I feel that $1400 in addition to my original payment is absurd
Hertz has been pretty great
Hertz has been pretty great, but the speed of getting cars is just annoyingly slow. I have rented cars twice in the last month, one at the IAD airport where it took me almost an hour to get a car. And the other at the ORD airport where it took a while also.
Cars are generally clean and I generally have no issues in that regard
**Hertz: when things go wrong, support disappears
After several weeks, I am still waiting for a single substantive response from Hertz.
What started as a flat tyre turned into one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Hertz Assistance failed to provide adequate support, leaving me to solve the problem myself. Despite submitting a detailed complaint with supporting evidence, I have received nothing more than an automatic acknowledgement.
To make matters worse, Hertz then charged an additional €60 to my credit card for an alleged extra rental day. The vehicle was returned the same evening, the keys were left in the designated key box because no Hertz employee was present, and I even provided photographic proof with the exact date and time. Yet Hertz simply took the money without any explanation or meaningful investigation.
The most disappointing aspect is not even the €60. It is the complete lack of customer care. When something goes wrong, you expect a company of Hertz’s reputation to investigate, communicate and treat customers fairly. Instead, I have been ignored while my complaints remain unanswered.
Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Hertz. Excellent service is measured when problems arise, not when everything goes according to plan. Unfortunately, Hertz failed on every level.
Thank you Hertz Centurion
I rented a car from Hertz Centurion (Pretoria) for almost a year, and I cannot speak highly enough of the exceptional service I received from Damaris and Excellent.
From day one until the day I bought my own car, they treated me like family. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine care made every interaction a pleasure. It's rare to experience this level of customer service and true Ubuntu in today's world, and it meant so much to me.
Damaris and Excellent, thank you for always going the extra mile and making me feel valued. Your warmth and dedication will never be forgotten. Hertz is fortunate to have people like you representing the brand.
One star is too generous
One star is too generous. Hertz left me stranded repeatedly and refused to take responsibility. Employee Shavon at the Albany airport location should be fired, along with the Middle Eastern-looking employee who wears glasses. Corporate needs to deal with these incompetent staff.
After the Latham location refused my exchange, I went to the Albany Central Ave location. They handed me a filthy Kia EV6 covered in dirt, debris, and a stained roof with red sludge that I had to clean myself. That same EV6 repeatedly went into limp mode and lost power while still showing around 20% range. I had to have it towed four separate times.
Every time I called, Hertz refused to document it as a mechanical issue and refused to cover the tows. I was forced to use up my own AAA benefits, pay $240 out of pocket for one private tow, and have my brother arrange another tow. I also lost multiple work shifts and had my work account suspended because of the breakdowns.
Only after several failures did Hertz finally document it as mechanical. The final straw was waiting over three hours for a tow that never arrived even their own agent said the delay was unacceptable.
This wasn’t bad luck. Hertz gave me a dirty, defective car and then did everything they could to avoid taking responsibility. I will never rent from them again and I strongly recommend everyone else do the same.
Salman is the best
I would like to recognize the outstanding service we received from the Hertz representative, Salman. He was professional, friendly, and patient throughout the entire process. He took the time to answer all of our questions, made everything easy to understand, and ensured we had a great experience.
We were four girls under the name Rana, and Salman provided us with excellent customer service. His kindness, patience, and professionalism made a real difference and made our experience with Hertz smooth and enjoyable.
Thank you for having such a dedicated team member. We truly appreciate his help and hope he receives the recognition he deserves.
They charged an extra day
They charged an extra day, because the office was closed and I couldn't return on time.
I had booked a 3/4 ton truck months ago…
I had booked a 3/4 ton truck months ago online I called them to change the pickup date and I had to repeat myself hundreds of times they wouldn't listen to me just kept talking saying the same thing over and over I asked for a email saying I changed my pickup date they said sure we'll send it I called back because no confirmation email they told me they cancelled my reservation so I recommend you go somewhere else that hertz,s doesn't own no hertz,s dollar, avis, etc i got screwed last year by hertz,s saying I damaged a vehicle but I didn't had to pay 600 something for damage I didn't do so I'll never go to hertz,s ago
Spent 2 hours in the hot sun and…
Spent 2 hours in the hot sun and humidity in line with no chairs and no air conditioning on Kauai. I am handicapped and couldn’t stand in that heat for that long so they finally gave me a chair inside before I passed out. But they had very little staff for the very long line, so it still took 2 hours. Unacceptable. Never use Hertz again. To add insult to injury they then gave me a black hot car!
I’m sharing my family’s recent rental…
I’m sharing my family’s recent rental experience to help others, not to attack Hertz as a whole.
We reserved and prepaid for a full-size gasoline vehicle for a one-way trip of over 1,000 miles from Tallahassee, Florida, to Michigan. We arrived at the rental location about an hour before our reservation time. When it became clear I would need a credit card to complete the rental—even though it had already been prepaid—we both specifically told the employee that we were keeping our reservation while we made arrangements. A coworker also arrived within our reserved pickup window. Despite that, we were later told our vehicle had been given to someone else because, as the employee explained, “we don’t hold cars.”
We were then provided with a Tesla instead. The issue wasn’t simply receiving an electric vehicle. It was a series of communication issues, inaccurate information, repeated charging stops, significant delays, and the overall impact those things had on my family during a trip of more than 1,000 miles.
Because of this experience, I personally cannot recommend the Hertz location at Tallahassee International Airport. My concerns are primarily with what occurred at that location and how the situation was handled, not with every Hertz location or every employee. Throughout this process, I also encountered employees who genuinely tried to help, and I appreciate their efforts.
My complaint is currently being reviewed by Hertz Executive Customer Care, and I’m allowing that process to run its course. My goal is simply to share what happened and hopefully prevent another family from experiencing something similar.
To be completely transparent, we are using Hertz again for our trip home because they were still the most affordable option for a one-way rental over this distance. I’m genuinely hoping our return trip is smooth, uneventful, and doesn’t turn into another 30+ hour journey. I truly hope our first experience was the exception and not the norm.
