$300 for a scratch on a wheel hub plus $60 for admin fee is ridicules. Any other Hertz outlet considered this normal wear and tear — not in Germany.

Hertz will pester you to death
Hertz has taken the use of your email and mobile number to an insane level of pestering and bothering. From non stop marketing emails and texts to “check in” messages starting a week before a rental to a barrage of follow up surveys I’m getting pestered.to.death by hertz. I have three rentals coming up the next two weeks and it’s such a nuisance to hear from them so much. Why would they do that? Who thinks bothering your best/most loyal customers is a good approach? I run a multi million dollar company I don’t need multiple reminders about a car rental. Just.stop. And you have to opt out every time you make a rental reservation or you’ll be pestered some more.

Great personalities
Brian and Shai are good, hardworking men. They made sure my vehicle was available and ready by the time I arrived for pickup.
Picked up vehicle at Brookfield Place…
Picked up vehicle at Brookfield Place in Toronto. The agent made me insert my credit card twice, even though it had showed ‘Approved’ the first time. I was charged the prepayment fee ($350) and final charge ($220) twice, and only one of the prepayments have been released back to my card. Hertz agents refuse to help me resolve this. I will have to file a fraud case with my credit card and will never rent from Hertz again.
This has been a total disaster
This has been a total disaster. I am an expat moving to the US from Canada and working through International Auto Source for a permanent vehicle. They had arranged the rental with Hertz and from the overcharges, charges to the wrong credit card, threats to repossess the vehicle and additional fees, this has been an unmitigated disaster.

Billed for six weeks of rental - I only rented the car for one week!
On Friday, April 3, 2026 (Good Friday), I rented a Jeep Wrangler from Hertz at Newark Int Airport. On Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 0546 am, I returned the rental to the same location. On April 12, 2026, I received an email from Hertz stating, "We inspected your returned rental and found no damage. You won’t be billed for damage to the rental car".
On Monday, April 13, 2026, I departed JFK on a BA flight to London Heathrow, where I reside.
On the 1st of May, I checked my American Express account and discovered that the Hertz rental charges had not yet been submitted.
On May 18, 2026, I received an invoice from Hertz for over $3,000.00 indicating that I had dropped off the rental at Philadelphia International on May 18th.
The Hertz website has an online contact form, but after sending multiple queries, I still hadn't received a response. However, after a diligent online search, I found executivecustomerservice to whom I emailed the problem. On May 20th, I received an email indicating that Hertz received my correspondence and would investigate thoroughly. On May 23, 2026, I received a final reply from executivecustomerservice, apologising for the inconvenience and refunding me approximately $2,400.00 for the overcharge.
I am a dedicated and loyal Hertz customer. I have never before encountered any problems with my past rentals. However, I am a bit dubious about renting a Hertz vehicle in the future. After much searching online and finding the right email address to contact Hertz, I was very impressed by the prompt response from the customer service folks. However, what was not explained to me is how, after I returned the rental vehicle on the morning of Saturday, April 11, 2026, someone else was able to take the vehicle off the Hertz lot and pass through the checkout guard, with my credit card used for the rental? How could this have happened?

Junky cars, poor service. Will never rent from them again. No wonder they are in bankruptsy.
