We have rented cars in Italy on many…
We have rented cars in Italy on many occasions. This was the first time we used Hertz. It is mystifying to me that in 2026 a multinational company can be so bereft of technology. We picked up the car at Roma Termini. The rental agreement was supposed to be emailed to me. Between the rental counter in the Termini and the pickup location, the agreement email never arrived. I contacted Hertz on several occasions during the rental period and was assured that the rental agreement would be sent, It never arrived, so if we had been stopped by law enforcement for any reason, I would not have been able to prove I was a legitimate renter. When I returned the car, I asked for the 4th or 5th time for a copy of the rental agreement and was told that it wasn't possible to print the agreement at that location. On a number of occasions during normal business hours I called the number of the Hertz counter at Roma Termini and no one picked up. It was a totally unsatisfactory customer service experience. One is better served at a fast food drive through than by Hertz in Italy, The only plus was that the rental car itself was fine.
Excellent Customer Service
I want to acknowledge the excellent customer service provided by Cheryl Jorden at the facility at IAH. I live in Seattle and visited MD Anderson for some treatment and left medication in the rental. She recognized how important it was, contacted me and overnighted the medicine to me.
Ms Jorden proactively anticipated my needs, actively listened to how frustrated I was, and resolved my issue with empathy and speed.
She is an exemplary employee going above and beyond what is required.
Vacation vehicle rental made easy.
Picked up the car from the airport with no hassle. Agents at the rental booth were friendly and laid out any additional options we had available to us. When we returned the car, there was a long line at the booth for folks picking up, but one of the agents came out to see who was returning vehicles so they could hand in their keys and be on their way.
The services were great
Poor customer service
Most important -- my recent experience AT Salt Lake International Airport was excellent. My bad experience has been with corporate customer support. Difficult to reach. I start three CHAT conversations and made headway with live agent. However, all chats ENDED and asked me start another chat....from the beginning
Customer Service
On 7/15, our 7-member family vacation from St. Louis to Boston had a terrible flight experience that lasted over 12 hours, instead of 3. By the time we reached Logan airport we only expected more disappointment. But… wow! Our experience with Hertz was SPECTACULAR! Asha was incredibly kind and empathetic. Sweet compliments to our youngest member. She then met us in the garage, by driving up in our rental car. Once we drove off, she ran to send us off, with individual bags of Hertz popcorn. Incredible Customer Service! Please give Asha a raise!!! Sally Greco
Unreliable vehicle
The car I received had not been serviced and it nearly overheated in the Arizona desert heat in summer. Hertz did not offer us viable options for service, so we had to service a brand new rental car ourselves.
Hidden costs only reveal at the airport
After booking all sorts of hidden costs pop up such as airport taxes that are incurred for each day of the rental. Deposit fees of 6500$ are charged if you do not take insurance.
Avoid it you don’t want to feel ripped off.
The Staff was amazing
The Staff was amazing. Accommodated me in every way possible. I walked out feeling like I received the presidential status.

Worst value and service – Hertz
Paid extra to rent with Hertz Malta expecting better service than low‑cost firms, but got pressure at the desk, poor and rude customer service, unclear collision damage cover, and an unfair charge for pre‑existing wheel‑rim damage despite my pickup photos and their own condition report. I’ve rented from Sicily by Car at Malta Airport before with fewer issues and better value, so I will avoid Hertz Malta in future
Smooth process
Smooth, quick, pick-up and drop-off process. Car was clean and well maintained.

Horrible Experience!
Checking in was quick
Checking in was quick. There was not a big line of customers ahead of us. The location was close to my house. The gentleman that assisted us was pleasant.
I had an extremely disappointing…
I had an extremely disappointing experience with Hertz that completely disrupted my moving plans.
On May 18, 2026, I found an online rate of $115.49 to reserve a cargo van for June 30. Before booking, I called the Hertz Fairfax Courtyard location to see if I could make the reservation directly through an agent. The representative quoted me a higher price than the online rate, so I completed the reservation online instead and immediately received a confirmation email.
Wanting to make sure everything was in order, I called the Fairfax location again on June 22 to confirm my reservation. I was assured that everything was confirmed and ready for pickup. Then, on June 28, I received an automated reminder email once again confirming my pickup date and time.
Less than 24 hours before my scheduled pickup, on June 29 at approximately 12:59 p.m., I received a message from Farham, who identified himself as the manager of the Fairfax location, asking me to call him regarding my reservation.
When I returned his call, he informed me that Hertz had stopped renting cargo vans and box trucks nationwide approximately two years earlier. He said he was surprised the reservation had been accepted and promised to see whether an alternative vehicle was available. About 45 minutes later, he called back and informed me that no replacement vehicle could be provided.
When I asked why no one had mentioned this when I called before making the reservation or when I confirmed it on June 22, I was told that the employee I spoke with "may not have known."
By then, I had already finalized my moving arrangements based on Hertz's repeated confirmations. The last-minute cancellation forced me to find an alternative on extremely short notice, resulting in additional expenses, penalties, and unnecessary stress.
Mr. Farham provided several phone numbers for management, but every number routed me to overseas call centers. Despite explaining my situation multiple times, I was never able to reach anyone with the authority to resolve the issue. I was transferred repeatedly, received conflicting information, and eventually one representative disconnected the call.
The most frustrating part of this experience was not simply that my reservation could not be honored—it was that Hertz repeatedly confirmed a reservation for a vehicle the company says it had stopped offering years earlier. A reservation should mean something, especially when customers rely on it for major events like a move. This experience demonstrated a serious breakdown in communication, reservation management, and customer service, and I cannot recommend Hertz based on how this situation was handled.
