What an awful experience with Hertz Malaysia. I took delivery of the rental car on 11th July 2024 from the KLIA1 airport. Upon receiving the car (Hyundai Tucson) I had paid rental for, it was in a deplorable condition. The paintwork was poor with scratches all over, though the interior was tolerable. I requested for a change of car and was told there was no replacement available! Without being given a choice, I commenced my journey to the hotel. The steering badly pulled to the left, a case of poor alignment. Upon arriving at the hotel, we offloaded our luggage and had to restart the car. The sound of the engine cranking up raised a 'red flag' as it felt like the battery was giving way.
Upon checking in, I called their customer service and the "fun" started. As I had a fairly long journey the next day to Kuantan, I wanted the car was in shape for the drive. There were a few incoming calls from various persons, the bottomline was there were no other replacement cars available! Hearing this from Hertz was indeed alarming. I was then told I drive to a tyre workshop nearby to get the wheel alignment done, and they will ensure I need not pay for it. The shop was just poorly equipped and did a shoddy job without an alignment equipment in place!! That aside, the attendant refused to let us drive away as he claimed he was yet to receive payment from Hertz. I had little choice and paid, though Hertz were prompt in crediting my account. Then came the saga of the battery. They sent in a technician with a spare battery. The technician did some checks and concluded it was not the battery but likely an alternator fault as the battery was not getting adequately charged. He advised me not to drive and he will alert Hertz. Eventually, a car replacement was finally sent at 10.30pm! Having to go thru this awful experience from Hertz is just unbelievable. I feel I have been somewhat shortchanged and robbed of the value of the amount I paid for the car. Hertz is not the reputable car rental agency it once was.
