Matt K listened to what we wanted. We looked at 5 cars, then decided to test drive 1, which we bought. There was no pressure from him to make a decision straight away. We arranged a time to collect our new car and part exchange our old car. Josh showed us around our new car. He then went through the payment. Very easy. I would highly recommend them and Hippo
I came with my dad to collect his new vehicle. We were extremely early, but Liam shown us to the car to have a look around whilst he got our paperwork.
He then helped my dad (who has dyslexia) slowly explaining the different options of warranty cover and as my dad couldn't decide on the day, has arranged to call back and wrote it in his diary.
His customer service skills were excellent.
He made us at ease with a bit of banter.
He answered my dad's questions as best he could which is all anyone could ask.

UPDATE – welcome progress, but consumers should see the contradiction
There has finally been some welcome forward movement with Hippo, and it is only fair that I acknowledge positive developments as well as our concerns.
However, I believe prospective customers have a right to understand the clear contradiction between what Hippo has said publicly on Trustpilot and what it has communicated to us privately.
Hippo stated publicly on Trustpilot:
“We do not accept the suggestion that Hippo is seeking to place improper pressure on the customer.”
Yet privately, on 6 August, Hippo wrote to us:
“In the meantime, we remain willing to progress the necessary practical arrangements for collection of the vehicle, should the proposed settlement offer be accepted and agreement reached between the parties.”
At that point, the rejection had already been accepted and the unwind had commenced. The only matter we had not accepted was Hippo’s disputed financial settlement.
We therefore felt it was entirely reasonable to understand Hippo’s private correspondence as saying that collection was conditional upon acceptance of its proposed settlement.
If Hippo maintains that this was not what it intended to communicate, then the obvious question remains: what exactly did “should the proposed settlement offer be accepted and agreement reached between the parties” mean?
Hippo has now written:
“The fact that the financial position remains disputed does not prevent Hippo from now proceeding with the practical arrangements for collection.”
We welcome this forward movement. We have provided the collection address again and are now awaiting a collection date.
Trustpilot remains an important medium for prospective customers to make balanced, informed decisions. These updates are not, as Hippo has suggested, an attempt to debate the ongoing rejection through Trustpilot. They are intended to document our experience of how Hippo deals with a customer when things go wrong — both good and bad.
When Hippo makes positive progress, I will acknowledge it. Equally, when what Hippo says publicly appears to contradict what it tells us privately, I believe customers have a right to see that too.
I was once told, “What can’t speak can’t lie.” In this case, Hippo’s written correspondence illustrates that phrase rather well. Its public and private words are there in black and white, side by side.
The words speak for themselves. Consumers can read them and make their own judgement.
Hippo was amazing to deal with, especially Josh in the peterbourgh store who made me feel at ease with the whole process and very professional. Also James and Alex from the Blackburn branch who where so helpful ad accommodating even while I was away in Spain and got me the deal I wanted. All in all an incredible company to deal with and will be definitely coming back again.
Great experience with Akeem and Josh. Very professional, helpful and attentive to all the things we needed with a car!
Highly recommend
I purchased a Citroën C5 X from Hippo Motor Group for £15,050 and travelled around 200 miles to collect it.
Unfortunately, I identified multiple cosmetic defects immediately on collection, including scratches/scuffing and a significant cluster of paint damage. I raised these with Hippo before leaving and the vehicle was taken away for an attempted repair. The issues were not properly resolved.
Hippo initially offered £50 towards a buff and polish and later offered £200 as a goodwill gesture. The damage ultimately required two panels to be professionally resprayed, which I had to arrange using my own protection cover.
What has really disappointed me is the investigation afterwards. Hippo relied on its vehicle inspection when rejecting my complaint, yet the VHC supplied to me records the relevant bodywork and doors as “OK” and does not record the scratches I reported.
I requested the underlying inspection and preparation evidence through a DSAR. Hippo subsequently confirmed that it does not hold a separate 130-point checklist/PDI, additional preparation records, technician notes, pre-handover photographs or a separate audit trail beyond the VHC.
I also paid for Ceramic Coat protection. After questioning whether it was actually applied, Hippo eventually provided a certificate recording an application date. However, when I asked for the underlying evidence of the physical application, I was told they don’t hold technician application records, photographs, application checklists, product records, applicator details or a panel-by-panel application record.
This is particularly concerning because the Ceramic Coat documentation states that pre-existing paintwork marks and blemishes are excluded from the guarantee. Hippo’s position is that the defects were already present before collection, so I have legitimate questions about the condition of the paintwork when the coating was supposedly applied and what protection I actually received.
I’m not saying the coating definitely wasn’t applied. My concern is that I paid for a professional product and there appears to be very little underlying evidence of the work actually carried out.
This has been my first experience buying a car from Hippo and, unfortunately, it has left me extremely disappointed and questioning whether I would ever purchase from them again.
My experience has been that once something goes wrong, getting clear evidence-based answers is extremely difficult. I expected much better from a large motor group.
I am now taking the matter through the appropriate independent complaint process.
