I've used Hobkirk's twice having initially found them online searching for a carry bag big enough for my overlocker. It was the only supplier that came up trumps and I was pleased with the service and the quality and price of the bag.
This time round I was looking for a dress form and knew the model that I wanted. Hobkirk's had it at the best price so I went with them again. Honestly, what a brilliant experience! Ordered on Sunday, despatch email sent at 09:30 on Monday morning and the dress form arrived on Tuesday. They used DPD, which I find a welcome bonus, as I've found them to be the most reliable delivery service in my area.
Now, looking at all the reviews, I really wish I didn't live hundreds of miles away so that I could come in to the shop to see all the goodies! The service I've received ordering online and the positive reviews make me think that when/if I'm in the market for a new machine, I would genuinely contemplate making the journey to buy from them in person!

What a brilliant company. Nothing was too much trouble when I called in for help with a Singer machine made in 1948! All the staff helped to sort out some new parts and the correct needles. I recently ordered some Brother sewing machine feet and accessories online. I was surprised and impressed when the shop called me to apologise for the delay (which I hadn't noticed!) as certain items were out of stock and would have to be ordered in. The staff are brilliant and go above and beyond with their service. My order has arrived with signed for delivery and was well packaged. I would definitely use this company again. Recommended.

Absolutely fantastic shop with great staff. I bought my embroidery machine from here nearly 2 years ago (embarrassingly it sat in my office the full 2 years with me too scared to use it after trying once) anyway plucked up the courage to try again with it & just couldn’t get to grips with it. I phoned the shop up as they had mentioned at the time of buying they would run through the basics, I thought it would be a push asking 2 years on, however they were lovely & so helpful. I took my machine in, Steph & Linda had a look and diagnosed a fault so sent it off for repair. When I went back to pick up my machine Linda sat down and went through everything with me, right from the basics of what each stabiliser is used for & which threads, to showing me the workings and how too with the machine. I had a full morning lesson which was so helpful. I have come away feeling positive and no longer scared to try.
Thank you again Linda you’ve been amazing! (I’ve managed tonight to stitch out everything spot on with no tears)

I’m really sad to write this review,I have a Juki sewing machine purchased from Hobkirks, and whenever I had any problems I phoned the shop and the staff were more than happy to help,in fact I would say they went over and above good customer service,
When I decided to buy an Overlocker I decided to go to Hobkirks to buy it,even though the shop is quite a distance from where I live, and at that time I was unable to travelling by car, I phoned the shop and asked if they would ship my purchase to me,they were more than happy to do so.
I ended up buying a Babylock, and and an extended warranty, I was really happy with my purchase, and again I needed to phone the shop a couple of times for help and the ladies were amazing
Now my sewing machine needs a service, so it seemed obvious to me that I should take it to Hobkirks,even though it’s an hour and a half away,I phoned the shop last week,9th January,the engineer wasn’t at his desk,the receptionist took my details and said he would call me back when he got back to his desk,obviously he didn’t,the following day my partner phoned the shop, and the receptionist said that Stuart was out of the shop,repairing machines at schools, but he would be back on Thursday afternoon,so he left my number again,as well as his own,she assured him that Stuart would phone me back Thursday afternoon,Thursday evening I realised,probably took me too long to catch on,that nobody was going to phone me back,and sadly the maintenance and aftercare team don’t have the same customer care ethos as the shop floor staff,I was prepared to travel that distance because of my previous experience, but having being treated so shoddily maybe it’s not a good idea
I’m also upset that I spent so much on an extended warranty because from this experience it’s worthless
As a last word,maybe the receptionist and the engineers could have some customer care training from the shop floor staff because they are amazing, and I really hope it isn’t the fact that I’m not spending hundreds of pounds this time that makes my custom worthless
After posting this review I’m really pleased to say that Stuart the engineer at Hobkirks phoned me, so that I could arrange an appointment, which we did for 17th January, however overnight we had quite a heavy snowfall, so I had to cancel, I live on the coast we hardly ever get snow here! I have now rescheduled for Friday 20 th
In the meantime one of the directors from Hobkirks phoned me to offer his sincere apologies, and assured me that when I do go there they will make sure I’m looked after, as has always been the way previously,
I’m really sorry this situation arose, but glad there has been a positive outcome from it
I will obviously write a review after I have visited the shop again 💜
I finally got to visit the shop on Friday 20th, and it was a really positive experience, exactly how I’ve always found the staff at Hobkirks, so hopefully my complaint will have flagged something up, and it will now have changed
I had booked for a service for my sewing machine, but Tatiana managed to sort it out for me, it was a case of operator error, and as when I met her previously she was above and beyond helpful, and showed me some features on my machine that I didn’t know,
I also had the pleasure of meeting Marcus Hobkirk, who apologised for my experience previously and very kindly gave me a voucher to spend in the shop, and I had no problem doing so
I’d also like to thank Steph, who was very helpful and full of ideas when I was choosing fabric, even though she was clearly busy with a project for the shop
Despite a minor blip I would certainly recommend the shop to anyone thinking of buying a sewing machine, because all the staff happily spend time explaining everything to you, and if there’s a problem when you get home they’ll happily go through things over the phone, the customer service the ladies offer is priceless
Thank you all for turning my little strop into an extremely experience 💜

Elaine serviced it and spent time with me showing me how to use it perfectly. Her skills and knowledge is outstanding and she was so lovely and patient. I have a very old Singer machine which I use rarely for heavy-duty car hoods etc. All other suppliers (who claimed to be experts) were unable to help me. Gordon was able to identify (from my limited knowledge) what needles I needed, and also found some needle screws for me. His guidance on how to time my needle to the bobbin was the key to getting my machine working correctly again! An outstanding service. Thank you Gordon and Hobkirks.

I just want to say what a privilege it is to deal with a company that believes that the customer is essential, I ordered items that I received in less than twenty-four hours, which was utterly incredible, Gordon the man with enormous expertise answered all my questions without trying to force me to purchase things I didn't need, a practice that has become prevalent over the last 2/3 decades. The experience was a pleasure and I cannot recommend this company highly enough, for me it's a no-brainer that I shall do business with them again.

Visited the shop in person looking for a replacement for a much-loved Brother sewing machine. Service was fantastic and staff were happy to show me and demonstrate a number of machines before I settled on a new one. I came in to collect a few weeks later and again found staff to be helpful and attentive. Will definitely be returning for supplies and any future machines.

I bought my first sewing machine from Hobkirks in 1980. In the last couple of years I have bought two sewing machines, an embroidery machine and, now, two overlockers from them.
I wanted to upgrade my overlocker to one with auto tension and air threading. I spoke to Hobkirks. They offered me a very fair allowance for my existing overlocker against a new one.
I think the fact that after forty years I keep going back very probably speaks for itself. They offer an amazing choice of machines to suit every budget and always have a variety of pre-loved - and sometimes ex-demo machines - on offer.
In addition to that they are super helpful. This time I dealt with Elaine who, as always, went to extraordinary lengths to ensure I was happy with my purchase.
I highly recommend them to anybody who is the market for a sewing, embroidery, overlocker or coverstitch machine. In addition they have an incredible range of haberdashery and fabric. It’s a veritable treasure trove of goodies staffed by people who genuinely care that you get exactly what you want!
