Every bliddy time it tells me my password is incorrect, even when it has worked the day before with said password - and yes I'm inputting it correctly. Happens regularly, one time it will let me in, the other it wont and locks me out. Constant requests to uodate passwords too, for no reason. A very annoying app, been going on like this for over a year now.

Hi Maria, thank you for your review. It’s great to hear everything went well and we wish you all the very best in your new home!

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Decent site but needs some tweaks.

There are certain things which HomeSwapper could implement to improve my overall user experience.

To deal with users who ignore messages, restrict what they can see of other people’s ads, just like it’s restricted when you’re not logged in. Or, make it so they can’t see anyone’s pictures until they reply to any messages more than 2 weeks old. They will change their ways and show some common courtesy if their own user experience is affected. Restricting their messaging will not work, as they’re not the type that send messages. They are purely there to have a nose!

I have a ground floor flat and I don’t want to be in one again, but that’s almost all I get offers for because I’m matching with them. You can restrict your search ONLY to ground floor, but not filter it out. I would like to see an option to exclude ground floor.

There could be a field to put in whether your landlord allows under occupancy. It would help weed out some of the properties you definitely can’t move to and those who can’t move to yours. Users can put it in their description but most people won’t think to if it’s not an actual field to be filled out.

There are only 9 search fields to put in your preferred areas. If there are 15 areas you’re specifically interested in and you can only put in 9, you end up having to widen the radius of some of those to take in the areas you don’t have a free search slot for. The problem is it then takes in other areas that you don’t want, and you have people in those areas expecting you to be interested in their property because you’ve matched with them. Glassbob offers many more slots. There could also be separate slots that make it clear you are looking for multi swap properties in the area, but don’t want to move there yourself.

The email notifications need to differentiate clearly between matches from HomeSwapper, likes, and actual messages from users. Some people will ignore all the emails because they assume it’s just more matches that they’ve probably seen before (you tend to get the same matches over and over). They are less likely to ignore an email that says “User xxxxx has sent you a message”, rather than “You have new notifications“.

Saved for later allows you to save 2500 properties, which is great, but there’s no way to organise them. I might want to organise by town, or by which of my multi swaps they might potentially work for. I’d like to put them in named categories/sections, as it’s all too much of a jumble.

When I send a link to someone for a property that might work for them in a multi swap, it is not clickable in messages. Some people are not tech savvy enough to copy and paste the link into a browser. Clickable links need to be enabled.

There are too many “I don’t know“s in the tenancy type field. It shouldn’t be an option. They only need to make a phone call to find out.

“Features they need” could be divided into “must haves”, and “desired, but not essential”. Another reviewer suggested this, and it would definitely help to work out whether it’s worth enquiring when you don’t have absolutely everything someone says they need.

Simple searches can only be done within 20 miles of a specific location. Sometimes, say for the purposes of a 4 way multi swap, I would like to be able to find someone ANYWHERE who wants a certain place. If, for example, location A wants mine (B), but I don’t want A, and I can’t find someone in my preferred area (C) to take A and make up a 3 way, I could find someone ANYWHERE (D) who wants A and then use specific locations to find someone in C who’ll take D. Simple search is no good to find D in this scenario if you don’t know where D might be yet.

I would really like to see some of these implemented.

Bad manners!

Every homeswapper I've encountered, wants to view and move fast.
They always have some excuse for needing to, it's either a job, kids schooling or some other, can't wait family problem.
Another irritating thing is, they want to communicate on Instagram-whats that all about.
I asked one women why, and she said well I don't use homeswappers much.
Are these people for real!!!?
It really annoys me because they can get really rude when things don't go their way!!

Hi Alan, we’re sorry to hear you’ve had issues with other swappers. Obviously we have no control how members act away from the website unfortunately. We do strongly recommend that swappers don’t use social media but instead use HomeSwapper’s messaging system for their own safety and security. Some members are anxious to get a move as soon as possible due to their personal circumstances, but you may consider (at least temporarily) setting your account to “Just looking” to give yourself time to find the perfect home.

Homeswapper is an awful exchange site. Time wasters, scammers and people swapping due to damp, mould, noisy nasty neighbours and bed bugs. Do not trust. The wrong swap will make life hell.

Hi, we’re sorry to hear your experience has been disappointing. We have many tools and features to prevent “time wasters”. If you have any evidence of scammers then it is very important that you report these immediately to us or to your landlord. With regards the conditions of homes, this is obviously the landlord’s responsibility and if you have any concerns you should contact them.

not geared towards retired persons in age restricted accommodation

Homeswapper is definitely not geared towards elderly people who may want to move from one age restricted accommodation to another.
There should be a separate site for retired persons accommodation.
I would like to be near my terminally ill daughter but no chance on here as retirees do not use this website because there is nothing for them to look at!!!

You may also wish to contact your landlord as sometimes they can provide additional assistance.

I've been on homeswapper for a number…

I've been on homeswapper for a number of years and contrary to the opinion of many here, I like the site. I have swapped once already and looking to swap again due to a work move and I'm expecting that to happen just as smoothly as my first move. I've had a couple of viewings and I didn't like the properties. It's worked for me, no complaints. I say stick with it and be positive.

Should be called waste of time swapper

I have been on home swapper for more than 5years and still haven't found a swap. Home swapper says I have matches and when I send messages always comes back as not interested Goodwick with your search.
Almost swapped only for the coucil from the swapper to say not approve due to information they just found out and that the person moving to my property will be under occupied . So what about us that are overcrowded. Wasted my days waiting for the swap to happen, yoll think they should know and never had the person on homeswapper in the first place. The site is an absolute joke

awful service a bit like homelink and…

awful service a bit like homelink and other services closely tied with government and housing, do believe there's some bullying going on through it....

where to start? shows you properties your not eligible for even though filtered for eligible , countless time wasted clicking on properties your not eligible for, shows things without your specified criteria as 100 percent matches whilst things that are perfect criteria or nearer show up as less percentage match?

had people abusing me through it using the notification system and messages etc.

wasted alot of time looking at ads, viewing flats etc, and I'm ultimately going to say it's all because the councils cant and wont provide sufficient housing for people in the first instance.

There's Something Odd Happening On Homeswappers

Have been on this site for 15 years. And it has been 15 years of learning about human behaviour. As a result of experiencing several swappers contacting me for swaps that were always more than 20 miles outside of the areas I had clearly stated, with properties that were NEVER relevant to my search, as well as swappers not attending viewings, or them not actually living at the addresses they claim to be tenants at! I decided to train as a behavioural psychologist. The site is now a social observational site for my students and I. It is patently clear that I will never swap via this site. If it were believable that the site has the remarkable number of time swappers that so many of us encounter, then what would be helpful, is if the site tightened its search to ONLY provide swaps that fit your criteria and NOTHING ELSE. For the site to also require all tenants to fill out a behavioural assessment form that is no less that 20 pages long, asking psychological evaluation questions. This would help to weed out time wasters. Because that has been EVERY single swapper I've encountered since signing on to this site. And I'm not alone! My neighbours have also experienced the same. As have several other tenants I've met over the years. Many chose the speculative approach, and wrote to tenants on sites or properties they were aware of being social housing, and gained successful swaps that way.
The website has clearly changed within the last 10 years. It is no longer designed to enable swaps, but rather TRAP swappers, so that we CAN'T MOVE, DON'T MOVE. Who knows who these time wasters really are. They have been multiplying over the years, to a point of creating suspicion in those of us who are genuine swappers. There's something very interesting at work. Wishing you all success in finding solutions to your move.

Hi, to view just 100% matches you can use the “100% matches only” filter. We provide matches with less than 100% as flexibility is often key to finding a successful swap. If you have any queries about specific matches, please contact our Customer Support team.

Our aim is to facilitate as many moves as we can and we’re proud of the fact that thousands of tenants swap using HomeSwapper every month, which is why we are trusted by the largest number of tenants and social housing landlords in the UK.

With regards timewasters, updates to the website in recent years have had a really positive effect. For example, the percentage of tenants replying to their messages has massively increased.

Could be so much better

The website worked well before, but it's been changed in the last week and I can no longer check all my potential matches on a map at the same time. We're trying to relocate to another city and it was great to be able to check, simultaneously, distances to the services that we need, bus stops and train stations nearest to each house, it made my search much more straight forward but homeswapper has suddenly totally removed this search option. The other changes to the website they have made have made using the service really fiddly. I was going to try the app again, after deleting it the last few times because it seemed pointless having it when it didn't alert me to any notifications (essentially potential swaps!) but the app has disappeared from the Google Play store? I appreciate having the option to use this website, but it's the social housing landlords who are paying (generally) for their tenants to be able to use this service and it's just not user friendly anymore. Another moan, just quickly, there are some odd people using the service who will randomly message 'hello' or nonsensical messages totally unrelated to a swap/your home, repeatedly, regardless of whether you reply to them, but you HAVE to reply to them each time or you are penalized for failing to respond to messages, thus having features of your account frozen, such as the ability to message potential swappers. It's a daft thing for them to impose. I messaged homeswapper about it previously, after receiving really random one word messages from someone on homeswapper. Homeswapper employee told me just to reply to all the messages so my account could be used again, really silly and it just encouraged more random messages from that same person.
I guess with this whole thing it seems that no actual social housing tenants have had any input in the website, if they did I think it would be much better to use, so I'm tending to move over to searching across the endless Facebook groups instead, which for now seems much more simple... Now it's just a case of trying to find a serious swapper.

Hi, we’re sorry to hear you’ve been having problems with the HomeSwapper website. We’ve not made any changes in the last month so please contact our Customer Support team who will investigate if there are any issues with your account. The HomeSwapper mobile app is no longer available but the mobile website works on all devices and has more tools and features to help you find a swap.

With regards messages, you do need to reply to all messages. This was done to prevent time wasters and since the rule was added, the percentage of people replying to their messages has increased significantly. However, you only need to reply to their FIRST message. Any messages after that will not affect your “Reply badge”.

Nothing about this site works

I have been on this site for 4 years without a single viewing. I live in a very desirable area. I have paid for a professionally installed luxury kitchen and bathroom, the photos show this. I follow up all 100% matches. 95% of these suggestions I've alreaady contracted and all are 'serious about swapping' and have been serious for 4 years. It's a broken waste of time system

Good sites and cleverly set up

You are much better than glass bop and house exchange .At least we can look like a tenancy type ,i have a tick the fixed term people .Unfortunately housing system very wrong .some rents cheap some is expensive .some flat extra luxury some. Is like council flat or house .It is not fear at all. Some people living million pound flats and they act like they own that some is not .Someone do something about tenancy type and stop giving very luxury flat to people that s not fear .Multi swap still confusing for me .

Don’t bother

Homeswapper UK seems to be a site full of people who don’t actually want to swap & just want to nose around houses whilst wasting everyone’s time..

Even 100% matches, areas, home sizes, rooms etc you message them your interested & low & behold your “in the wrong location” even though your property is slap bang in the middle of their preferred location 🙄
