Before writing this review I believe I have given Howdens an adequate amount of time to rectify the issue (over a month).
Initially we had a consultation at (including home visit) the Huntingdon depot in which Ben was very helpful and knowledgeable of kitchen design and we felt very supported through this stage which resulted in a design that my Wife and I were very happy with.
The kitchen was ordered and arrived in a timely manner to site ready for my contractor to fit, however during the fitting process a number of items were found to be damaged and for the record were replaced reasonably quickly but still caused frustration and delays for my contractor.
After the units had been fitted the kitchen was measured up for the work surface which was then delivered two weeks later. Sadly the worktop fitter who arrived, in my opinion, was ill-equipped with two saw horses, an angle grinder for doing precision cutting and no respirator for cutting what is basically a hazardeous material!
His general lack of care damaged plaster walls while fitting the tops which I had to repair and repaint. In addition, a section of upstand which proved to be problematic fitting under the window ledge was hacked and hammered so much a new piece had to be ordered which added a further week delay on to the job.
The main problem however, were marks had been made in the polished work surface by this fitters tooling in my opinion, which are clearly visible with the daylight coming through the window, however the worktop division seem to be reluctant to accept that fact, how else would irregular scrape marks get there?
The second fitter who came to fit the final upstand was a lot more professional with a mitresaw, respirator etc and fitted the upstand without any hammering and hacking, demonstrating the variation in fitter quality.
My contractor has rejected the worktop and Howdens (after a visit from one of the managers) did agree to replace it, although it was suggested we could live with it. Would you take delivery of a brand new car that cost you thousand of pounds that had a scratch in the bonnet and live with it?
So some final tasks to complete the kitchen project have been left to enable the removal of the first worktop and sadly after a month we are no further forward and because my contractor has had to move on to other jobs the line of communication has broken down because Howdens in my opinion are not happy to continue dealing with me direct.
I have come to the conclusion Howdens are not good to their word, they lack good customer care and communications and I honestly believe now that they are not interested in resolving this outstanding issue and decided for themselves I am going to have to live with with the existing worktop. Because the issue has taken so long and not been resolved, my contractor has moved on and I am now going to have to finish the final tasks myself which was not part of the plan when the project has cost you a significant amount of money. After working so hard and saving a significant amount of money my Wife and I have been left very disappointed and not impressed.
The two stars given are only for Bens services at the depot, who has, in our opinion, significantly tried within his capacity to resolve our problems to date.

Update: 15 January 2023
I am now pleased to report that the above issue has finally been resolved with a new section of worktop fitted. This was due to the very persistent and customer caring nature of the Huntingdon depot Manager Ben. He is an absolute credit to Howdens and never gave up on our case even though the worktop part of the business is not his department. This is the kind of customer service that a lot of companies out there could learn from. In recognition of his outstanding customer service I have now upgraded my rating to 4 stars.

After initially designing a kitchen with Wren we decided to give Howdens a try and were pleasantly surprised by the non push nature of their design consultations in comparison to Wren. The design process was a joy and nothing was too much for the team and Harry our designer. Even through the installation phase he was always contactable and really invested in making the project meet our high expectations.
I couldn’t recommend this team enough for your kitchen needs.

Nothing but praise for the staff at Howdens, Huntingdon, and the service they provided during our recent kitchen re-fit. Thanks in particular to Harry Furnell, for his excellent kitchen design and his helpfulness from the initial planning stages, right through to resolving minor niggles post-installation. Absolutely no hesitation in offering a whole-hearted recommendation!

Many thanks to Harry Furnell at the Huntingdon branch who designed our wonderful kitchen and utility, who took into consideration our requirements and ideas. The design was creative and functional, the choice and quality of cabinets, colours, appliances, handles, taps, lighting etc.,are good. Digital imagery was provided for the kitchen and utility, the visualisation was really helpful on deciding the final details. Harry has remained in contact throughout the refit and any issues were resolved quickly and professionally and nothing was too much trouble. If you’re looking for a good designed quality kitchen/utility, we thoroughly recommend this company. We received excellent customer service from the counter, warehouse and delivery staff from beginning to end.

We recently had our kitchen/diner revamped and worked with Harry at the Huntingdon store to create the perfect layout. After discussing ideas and the different cabinet options, we decided to go for the Fairford in Dove Grey and Charcoal. Harry was extremely helpful and the process was smooth from start to finish. We are very happy with the quality and service from Howdens and would happily recommend them.
