I would strongly advise anyone considering Howells Solicitors to look elsewhere. The service I received was genuinely awful from beginning to end.

My file was passed around like a parcel, moved between multiple solicitors and offices with zero continuity and no proper handover. Nobody seemed to take ownership of the case at any stage. Every time someone new picked the file up, progress stalled and I had to start again. It was completely disorganised.

Communication was poor throughout. I had to chase for even the most basic updates, and deadlines were not monitored or managed. Important tasks were only dealt with after I raised concerns myself, including urgent issues that should never have relied on me pushing for action. At times it felt like nobody was actually dealing with my purchase at all.

Even after raising a formal complaint, nothing improved. The firm’s idea of “monitoring” seemed to consist of sending the occasional email, while the real problems continued unchecked. There was no proactive management, no continuity, and no sense that anyone had a grip on the case.

The entire process was far more stressful, delayed, and poorly handled than it should ever have been. Although the transaction eventually completed, it was despite the service I received, not because of it.

I would never use this firm again, and I would strongly encourage others to avoid them based on my experience.

I've recently sold a property through Howells (on the recommedation of Peter Alan in Caerphilly). The team at Howells were excellent and the process went really smoothly. Of course, there are bottlenecks sometimes and not everything will happen when you want it to. That's part of the house selling/buying process. But I always felt that Howells were contactable and responsive (and on my side!).

Emma Mason and her team did a really great job. I'd definitely recommend Howells for this type of conveyansing work. Money in my account on the day of completion.

We used Howells solicitors (at the behest of Peter Alan estate agents) for our house sale and purchase, and we were surprised with the lack of communication from the administration team.
We had to chase almost every query and we’re often ignored.
Perhaps the most egregious example of this was almost one year after the completion of our sale/purchase, Howells solicitors informed us that they had failed to transfer us the balance of funds from the sale. Despite this being the best part of £12,000, they still saw fit to have us wait over the weekend for the transfer of the funds and we are still awaiting an explanation as to why this happened. We emailed them over four weeks ago and have been summarily ignored.

Katy was very helpful and kept us informed as the sale progressed.

Howells confirmed exchange for the 28th October and provided bank details for the transfer, so everything should have been straightforward. Instead, when completion day arrived, they went completely silent. My solicitor first contacted them at 6:30am and spent the entire day chasing for updates, with next to no response.

By late afternoon, we were still waiting for the keys with no explanation. At 4:45pm, the estate agent finally managed to reach the vendor directly — only to be told that Howells had informed her everything was ready to go. Clearly, that wasn’t the case.

Their lack of communication and professionalism caused unnecessary stress and delay on what should have been an exciting day. I would strongly advise anyone considering Howells Solicitors to look elsewhere — their service was unacceptable.
