Beware Deposit Policy

Ian put a good deal together for me on an Audi TTS and asked me in an e-mail to pay a £1,000 deposit. I asked in my e-mail reply if the deposit was refundable if I found the car to be unsuitable. When Ian called to conclude the transaction he failed to mention the deposit was not refundable (although he says he did ... he didn't) If I had known, I may well have reconsidered but assuming all was well I paid as requested. It was only when, for of some personal reasons, I had to withdraw from the deal I was told the deposit wound not be refunded.
I feel let down, ripped off - so beware of Huttons deposit policy!!!!

Vehicle Damaged & Poor Workmanship

Our 11 month old Ducato based Campervan went into Huttons for a gearbox replacement under warranty. The Service Manager was pleasant and helpful and the technician I spoke to seemed to be very knowledgeable.

Annoyingly when the van was collected one of the rear lights was smashed and the bodywork dented. The van is going to a paint shop for this to be repaired shortly!

Two weeks later we took the van to France, Switzerland and intended going to Italy. The van’s gear changes were getting progressively worse (with the brand new gearbox) and then the van overheated and we broke down in Switzerland.

Cutting a 27 day long story short, the gearbox wasn’t changing gear correctly because the oil level was significantly over filled by Huttons and the overheating was caused by damage done to the fan / electrical connections when fitting the gearbox, again Huttons were responsible.

Excellent service.

We're new customers of Huttons. We bought a new Fiat based campervan elsewhere, but contacted them for advice about an extended warranty. They could not have been more helpful and David even contacted us from his holiday to ensure we got registered in time. Also had great service from Paul who fitted us in at very short notice for some factory recall work that needed doing before our holiday. Huttons were recommended to us by the dealer we bought our campervan from and so far we are very impressed with how they have looked after us.

Service issue and patronising and dismissive behaviour

Review of Huttons Ltd. Bridgwater Road, Bleadon, Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, BS24 0AW.

My daughter took her Abarth to Fiat Huttons for a minor service, which basically consisted of changing the oil and filter and a few other minor checks.
After returning home, and by chance checking the oil, the level on the dipstick was less than 1/4 from the bottom of the gauge area, (photos taken as evidence).
I initially suspected a leak and inspected the front underside of the vehicle, where wet oil deposits along the underside of the front bumper, directly under the oil filter position, were clearly visible, (photos were again taken).
This could possibly be a leak from the oil filter ‘O’ ring seal or from the sump plug washer, (not uncommon).
I sent an email to the service manager Paul, with supporting photographs, requesting urgent attention and action.
He responded quickly with a polite and responsive phone call the following morning at 8:30am (26th June) and arranged for immediate collection and return to their workshop.
So far, so good…until the Managing Director (owner) with a junior member of staff arrive to collect the car, - then customer service and care drops off a cliff ! - with a patronising and condescending attitude and tone, particularly when speaking to my daughter. He was completely dismissive of the issue and to my daughter’s surprise, the car was then driven 8 miles back to Hutton’s garage without any comprehensive checks.

Some hours later and after a rather animated and ‘wordy’ phone call from the managing director, (owner) without any apology or admission, it transpired that the oil spill was caused when removing the oil filter. Their technician also failed to understand the correct quantity of oil required for this specific engine, (hence low oil on dipstick) combined with a complete lack of understanding/training, attention to detail and poor workmanship.
The Managing Director’s follow-up phone call was dismissive of any issues caused by them and no apology given. He has ‘selective hearing’, does not listen and refuses to accept any responsibility.
I am yet to receive any formal apology having specifically requested an email detailing the cause and corrective action taken by them.
Their service manager, (Paul) is very professional, but the owner, (who has the last say) is arrogant and patronising.
I do NOT recommend dealing with this business, especially when the owner is involved, as his attitude towards customers is condescending and arrogant.
I will never use this Fiat dealer again.

Service Manager amazing - owner rude and patronising!

We arrived for a double recall process with our Motorhome. Although we had told everyone that we had an A class, when we arrived, after a 75 min journey, we were told they didn’t have the facilities to do one of the recalls. They also said that they wouldn’t do the other one as they “wouldn’t get paid” unless they did both. We asked how much for us to pay for the one recall but they wouldn’t give us a price. The service manager (Paul) was amazing and gave us contacts and number to ring to book our Motorhome in elsewhere. The overall Manager came out and when I asked him to speak to someone at another garage on the phone about the recall, he was embarrassingly rude to the other garage. That garage had been really helpful to me and he was condescending and patronising to her, starting the conversation with “listen, have you ever done the job yourself?” It was so embarrassing and I had to apologise profusely on his behalf. He was a typical rude late-middle-aged man, who thought he knew better than anyone else and could speak to people as he liked. When I confronted him about his tone and attitude, he completely deflected and just focussed on why the job couldn’t be done, rather than his appalling behaviour. I felt so sorry for the service manager who, alongside myself and my husband, was clearly cringing. I would advise anyone to give this garage a wide berth. He wouldn’t even phone Fiat for us but I will be lodging a formal complaint with them on Monday!

Busy fools & time wasters

What a calamity and total time wasters. I bought a brand new Motorhome off Highbridge which are near to them. We broke down in Spain after only 2000 miles. The 2 fiat garages in Europe (Spain & France) said we needed a new gear box or gear box oil change. Long story short, Highbridge took the MH to them for diagnostics. Hutton's also said we needed a new gear box but they had not got the facilities to change it. I personally booked the MH into a fiat dealer in Portsmouth who have experience of this quite common problem. They asked for the report, so I rang Hutton's and the guy said oh yes I remember the large MH, fiat wouldn't pay for the extra diagnostic to check the gear box oil for metal in it. He was too busy to send the report as he was on his own and told me to call back. The 3rd time I called they then said I had to get it off Highbridge. I eventually got the report and passed on to fiat Portsmouth. My fury is that they never told anyone about the extra tests if they had Highbridge say they would have paid. They have tried to find out why they never said anything to them but told me. They surprisingly can't get any answers. Why they accepted my MH I have no idea when they couldn't do the work. They also have compromised one of their clients within an email naming & giving the postcode of another MH owner who has a similar issue. So data protection means nothing to them. Avoid at your utmost and if buying a MH from Highbridge make sure they take it to a reputable Fiat Dealer. It will be 6 months this issue has been going on. Hutton's adding 5 weeks. Disgraceful.

Above and beyond service

I had to take my Panda into Huttons as the wingmirror had been smashed overnight.
Huttons did their best to get me a new wing mirror and get it fitted as soon as possible despite being incredibly busy. With one member of staff, David, going above and beyond to get my car back on the road as soon as possible.

Incompetence at its finest

This company is a Stellantis (Fiat/Abarth/Jeep) dealership in Bleadon, Somerset.
I was going to let my experience with this company lie, until they had the temerity to write to me asking for a review of my experience with them… So I gave them an opening salvo and decided to actually write a review of my own views on the service they offer.

My 2020 Abarth 595 needed some warranty work doing and as Huttons were my nearest dealership I thought I would give them the work. Well it was a cacophony of errors from the start. When I booked it in I asked for a courtesy car. On arrival it was still out with another customer as the work they were doing on their vehicle wasn’t finished.

I waited a couple of hours and finally managed to get away.

When I returned to the garage to collect my car they told me it wasn’t ready….another few hours waiting and finally they said my car was done! Phew!

“However….. during the work we accidentally scratched your front bumper, but we’ve tried to put it right”

So I went and had a look, there was a gouge in my front bumper (which is white) and the mechanic (or perhaps a finger painting toddler) had attempted a “repair” in a completely different white paint. I wasn’t impressed but the owner David said that if I wasn’t happy they would understand and sort it out.

As it was dark and it had been some considerable time being done, I left.

The following day I had another look and advised the garage that I was indeed unhappy with their buffoon and his pot of Tippex so I was going to pop to my local bodyshop to ask them for a quick quote.

Having spent days travelling to and fro to Huttons and seeing the workshop I really didn’t want them anywhere near my car again.

My local bodyshop is BodyTek in Taunton, a highly respected company in the South West. I have also had work done there before and trust them implicitly, so imagine my surprise when I was told the cost for repairing and respraying the bumper would be in the region of £1000. Although they did say that Huttons had an account with them and they would work something out with them. Well to cut a long story short…. It took a very long time with some very long emails and the involvement of Abarth UK to get this matter resolved.

The owner is a pedantic, wordy and very tiresome man whom I have no doubt once he reads this will answer it with a diatribe of nonsense to make it all my fault… please feel free to read the Chief Clown Wranglers response when he adds it!

In short I’d rather entrust my unlocked car to 24 hours in the Monkey Enclosure at Longleat than let this fumbling incompetent bunch anywhere near it ever again.

Use them at your peril!
