Where The Wall Meets The Floor
A 152 x 152mm glazed skirting piece in deep gloss brown: the Artworks Teapot Brown Skirting Tile, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.
A tiled wall needs a proper foot, and this is it. The skirting tile forms the base course, presenting a finished, shaped and glazed top edge to the field tiling above instead of a raw cut, and taking the knocks, mop heads and spilt water that the bottom of any hard-working room collects. Four pieces run 0.6 linear metres, at 6.6 pieces to the metre, so a room can be measured in wall lengths rather than areas.
Dark brown at floor level is an old and very sound instinct. A deep base course grounds a scheme, gives the eye somewhere to rest and hides the wear that pale skirtings advertise — which is precisely why the glazed brick interiors of Victorian dairies, pubs and stations put their darkest colour at the bottom. Against a red or buff quarry floor the Teapot Brown glaze picks up the warmth of the clay and the two read as a single family; against a limestone or a pale timber floor it draws a firm, glossy line instead. Teapot Brown does not stock handed skirting corner pieces, so corners in this colour are mitred on site — an entirely normal way to work, and one a good tiler will do neatly.

⚠ Installation & Care Tips
Adhesive & Grout: White flexible adhesive, with grout in a mid to dark grey, a warm taupe or a soft biscuit. Do not reach for brilliant white — a bright line at floor level against a glaze this dark looks stark, and it is the first joint in a room to show dirt.
Layout: Fix the skirting before the field tiles above it, working off a level line rather than the floor, which is rarely true. There are no handed corner pieces in Teapot Brown: cut both pieces at 45 degrees and mitre external corners on site, and butt and grout internal angles.
Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
