Direct Banking
Direct Banking - Living overseas - registered mobile number:
Living overseas now and as such need to change my registered mobile number from old German to new overseas number. HypoVereinsbank seriously expects me now to send the new number via paper mail ... no facility in place to perform the change online or via phone call etc.
No other foreign bank ever required me to send letters around by mail for changing parameters in my online banking facilities.
HypoVereinsbank Process hasn't arrived in 21st Century yet

I can NOT recommend this bank if living outside Germany
I have been a swedish customer with HypoVereinsbank for the last 25 years. For the last 3 years I have struggled to regain my accounts because login-sms are no more sent to phones abroad. Even by phone calls, written letters and sent passport-copies the bank has refused any access to my accounts. Only by purchase of a german phonecard I could collect these sms and have finally been accepted as a customer again. Even an awful none existing support and 3 years of financial damage this bank demands a cooling off period for another 3 months before transfering my amounts back to my swedish bank. Therefore I will NOT recommend this bank to any customers living outside Germany.

Mr Thorsten Alexander Pollrich
Mr Thorsten Alexander Pollrich, from the Smart Banking Team, is among the best high-class customer support and customer profile I met in 3 decades of banking interactions. He made sure to put security at the top of his actions to NOT put the bank or myself at risk, then he constantly put himself in the shoes of the customers to understand the real pain, in order to solve it the best way possible. And then he went above a beyond to resolve the issue. And he even followed up with me after resolution, just to make sure that the original pain point was truly solve. Mr Pollrich is brilliant in his doing and his being. Excellent expertise. I hope this Banking Professional will get a Customer Medal.

this bank is a total disaster
this bank is a total disaster. When you lose your phone, you can’t get your hands on your money you can’t make a transfer even when you call sent letters with original signature as requested. This can go on for months on end if you are on vacation. Then in the branch where I live, is no one there’re only ATMs one time this machine ate €20 of me without registering it, I complained about it and then they canceled my account the very next day!! I had the account for about two years now and until today I wasn’t able to pay online through them per credit card, but the worst thing on this planet is probably their call center you get directed and transferred for hours on end and no one absolutely no one helps or assist you with anything because they just don’t know what they’re doing. Really bad customer service!!

English Support is Superb
I should be honest. Giving rate was more complicate than banking with especially Smart Banking Team. Thanks to Frau Vohra, the experience was amazing. We Expats, having struggle to speak in German and that gap is amazingly full filled. Many thanks HypoVereinsbank, and Frau Vohra of course!

Gap of digitalisation and analog methods
Consulting skills deverge extremly - there are high competend persons as well as very incompetend ones.
Its difficult that this bank shows a big gap between the digitalisation progress and very old fashioned analog methods. I would like to continue trusting this bank - it becomes more difficult because of the customer orientation.

Really no customer service
Really no customer service, limited means of contact. Generally not a bank I would trust my money with.

Never open a Mietkaution Konto at this bank in Germany.
It is horror. I am trying since several months to obtain my money back and nobody from customer service or Smart Banking Team is able to intelligently react and help me. I send them all documents they required. However since months they refuse to tranfer my money on my account. It is very hard to talk to them or to get to Smart Banking Team. Impossible. They do not conntact the landlord and do not put any pressure on him to submit the documents. Or at least to conntact me and explain what exactly they need from me and from landlord in order to transfer the Kaution.Very unprofessional.

The online banking application and consultants
The online banking application is simple and understandable. In addition, the bank's consultants always support you both by e-mail and when you visit the bank.

Hopeless incompetence & arrogance
Jesus Christ! HVB is so bad, it makes the German bank stereotype actually look good.
Hard to believe this bank exists in 2022. From the arrogant, trashy workforce, all the way to the technically inept app and web portal developers.
Everything is there to test your patience and make you discover new levels of frustration.
Worst customer service on the…
Worst customer service on the telephone. Automated voices provide information that you don't need if you have gone to the trouble to call the number in the first place. I mean, sorry, we all know that we can find our incomings and outgoings on the account statement - you don't need to tell me that and I don't need to call you to get that information. Then, there's a super sensitive automated voice that reacts to every sigh and groan (and there were many). For me it makes no sense that a rich, rich bank with millions in resources has such a crappy customer service - no excuse for it. Really, I understand you are trying to filter, but the filter system is badly thought out and frustrating for the person on the line.
Worst bank ever
I opened my account in hvb in September. I applied for credit card in December and now it's March and i m still running after them to get the credit card. Since i don't have german nationality i couldn't apply online for the card so i had to call them everytime to ask someone to apply it for me. Calling them took forever as usual. Everytime they come up with something, like your salary is not recognized in their banking system. I sent the last 3 payrolls, no one answered me. I called again and they say i don't have permanent residence which i do have. I send it via email as well. So when they process it they didn't find the payrolls that I sent. So they are completely unorganized. They didn't mention any of this conditions to get credit card online.
This bank is a joke
This bank is a joke. I have been with this bank for more than 4 years and I reached a point where I can no longer accept this cheekiness. I'm currently in a que for more then 1:28 hours and the call still ongoing with a lovely message in background "Please wait a moment, we will be with you shortly". Maybe you should define "shortly". Thank you and see you never again.
Awful online banking experience
one of the worst online experiences that I had with banks in Germany, very bad customer service.
they never helped me when I kept getting locked out when trying to activate my online banking using their own pin code! none knows what's wrong soI had to close my account less than a week from opening which was also a horryfing expiernce at their branch trying to explain first to the bank customer service agent what I need and when he showed no interest in helping me I had to close the account.
WHAT IS THAT !?!?? Worst bank EVER
WHAT IS THAT !?!??
1) No English service at all
2) weekends ? HAHAHAHA
They are keep locking my bank account and I’m calling them BUT it’s fu****g Sunday and I need to talk to my f****g account manager. WHO ON EARTH IS THAT !? I am cancelling my bank account tomorrow cause it only causes me issues. ONLINE BANKING, APPLE PAY, PAYPAL won’t work !!! Very rude costumer service. And if you want to chat with them ? ONLY GERMAN. ( you can translate it yes BUT THEY WONT HELP YOU ) DO NOT EVER REGISTER ON THIS BANK. It’s B******T!!!!!
Nothing to complain!
I read a lot of complaints about this bank. Luckily, in my case, all seems to go rather smoothly.
I have been a customer of multiple Dutch and German banks; I even worked for a few as an application manager. Due to privacy and securityregulations the onboarding process in Germany often feels slow and overly protective. Not in this case, I must admit - though I still can't get used to the video-ident process.
So here is my little comparison.
I opened an account at ING-DiBa. Felt 'like home' since I'm Dutch and it's a Dutch bank. All went ok, did the video-ident thingie and got a confirmation. That's it. Couldn't do anything yet. I had to wait for a series of login and TAN codes per regular mail. After about a week and finally being able to activate and use the account, the whole setup feels slow and overly complicated. This example is not on its own. The "big names" all have an identical process. The worst being banks that still rely on an optical TAN for wiring money (instead of using an App with MFA) but giving access to account-data with a simple 5-digit code. "It's safer that way", right. Like using your RFID card with -at the most- a 4-digit code? Banks: Go 2021!
Opening an account at HVB was a pleasant experience in contrast. I requested an account, did the video-ident thingie and to my surprise: within a few minutes I had access to a full banking environment using TAN over the phone number I provided during the identification. Reading all the negative reviews I was a bit reserved installing and setting up the banking app. Though, it just works. It was fast and convenient and had no trouble with the activation process or receiving and using TAN codes. Way to go HVB!
It's fair to say that I have not had any experience with the customer service. It's also fair to admit I rarely had to use any banking customer service because in a normal situation, all is pretty much self-explanatory and at the tips of your fingers.
Conclusion: I have nothing to complain! Maybe I will, maybe I won't in the future. For now I'm a happy customer waiting for my cards to arrive. Would be cool to receive a digital card, so here's a little user story for your backlog: "I as customer would like to receive a digital bankcard for direct use in modern payment solutions directly after opening my account" :)
It used to be a great bank - now I rank it worst of all
It used to be a great bank, but it was 20 years ago. Last month, since they launched their new app and blocked usage of accounts of everyone who did not update - I say it is one of worst experiences with banking, HSBC bad. Hotline does not exist (they claim it does, but nobody ever answers), chat online is a robot, which cannot really do anything more but search via FAQ. In a week of trials to get connected I managed to talk with one service advisor, he was incompetent and did not want to listen what my problem was, but forcing me to call other hotline and he would send me user guideline - which is of no use.
Worst service experience ever
i am a customer at this bank for some 30 years .
Their mobile app doesn't work.
Their Hotline is always busy and just a good way to increase revenue for Network Operator since most of time you are waiting. If you get a person on the phone, then this person is clueless.
Their chat is similar clueless . Just advises to re-install the app and then re-start the phone. And then i got disconnected.
e-mail to their support team doesn't get answered at all.
And finally the person in charge of my account is not reachable at all .
The only thing i admire is that their service is consistently extremely bad at all levels .
Customer support is non existent
Customer support is a term that is non existent in their vocabulary. Stay away from this bank.
