Extremely disappointing experience with Hyundai Finance

I am honestly sick and tired of having to repeatedly chase Hyundai Finance to resolve issues that should never have happened in the first place.

I am currently trying to get a £75 refund relating to a parking fine from July. The money was refunded to Hyundai Finance in August, yet despite this I still haven’t received my money back. I have now emailed at least 10 times, called 3 times, and had to make a formal complaint just to try and get my own money returned.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated incident.

The first time I had a problem with parking fines, Hyundai Finance somehow mixed up my vehicle registration with my contract hire number. My registration was incorrectly associated with three parking fines in the South of England that were nothing to do with me. Despite me disputing this, Hyundai Finance initially charged me over £300. It took repeated phone calls and chasing to eventually get the money refunded. The whole process was an absolute nightmare.

Then, when I handed the car back, I was hit with another issue. Hyundai Finance claimed that following repairs carried out through AXA, the paintwork was dull and had not been repaired correctly. I have also come across other customers reporting similar issues.

Despite the fact that I followed the required process and protocol, Hyundai Finance are still trying to charge me £560. This matter is now with the BVRLA, as I am having to prove that I have done nothing wrong.

What should have been a straightforward finance/vehicle experience has instead involved repeated mistakes, incorrect charges, endless phone calls, numerous emails and having to formally complain just to get issues investigated.

The amount of time and stress this has caused is completely unacceptable. I would strongly encourage anyone considering using Hyundai Finance to look carefully at how customer disputes and charges are handled before committing.

I simply want Hyundai Finance to take responsibility for the problems that have occurred, return money that is owed to me, and stop trying to charge me for something I have followed the correct procedure for.

I agree with a lot of the comments on here...

I agree with a lot of the comments on here. I have had lease agreements with lots of other providers and the end of lease arrangements have been very reasonable, but the end of lease experience I had this time round with Hyundai and Manheim was appalling. The car was very well cared for yet almost imperceptible issues were flagged.
As it stands, due to working away from home I have not yet finalised a new lease. When I do it will not be through Hyundai.
Interesting business model they seem to have adopted. Avoid.

If you never take your car outside you'll be fine

After returning my hire-purchase after 4 years and forking out over £17000 in payments (356pm x 48mths) I've been stung with a £2,600 repair bill.

You might be inclined to think that for that sum of money, the repairs would be extensive, with my car strewn with dented panels, missing trim and damaged interior. Not the case, minor small scratches which are part and parcel of driving and using a car for 4 years. Just to be clear these were all deemed to be outside of the BVRLA's Fair Wear and Tear guide (a trade body that Hyundai Finance and other leasing companies help fund so absolutely not a sniff of conflict of interest whatsoever).

This standard, which will be throughly inspected at the end of your hire, is non-negotiable. A 16mm scratch is a 16mm scratch, my issue is the standard is far too strict. This level of inspection is what you would expect a car rolling of a production line to be held to, not a car you've driven for 40,000 miles. What's most frustrating is these over-inflated repair costs won't even be spent, these repairs won't happen. The car will be auctioned and enter the used car ecosystem. Nor does £2,600 represent the loss of value for the car a nominal figure that seeps its way into the ether of the profit and loss account.

Just to be clear, the customer service agents I've dealt with have all been exemplary. Their professional tone and assistance is really refreshing, which is why this is not a 1star review; that extra star is for you folks.

Like Frank Sinatra I have a few regrets, but none more so that sitting in that spotless showroom, looking at the sparkly new car with its new car smell, as the overbearing sales agent who's wearing enough Hugo Boss cologne to stop a herd of bison in its tracks leans over me and shows me where to sign. I wish I never signed the lease agreement, if I didn't I'd be a lot better off.

This company has a very lucrative contracting product which it is very easily able to uphold, to the detriment of your savings accounts. So my recommendation is don't hire purchase the car, it isn't worth it. If you're planning to keep the car in a temperature controlled vacuum for 4 years then maybe sign the agreement, but if not get the bus and go home.

Absolutely diabolical harassment from…

Absolutely diabolical harassment from this company, my Brother died 3 years back and we are still being chased for money from this company for a vehicle he had in hire even though I have had at least 4 conversations with them and I have an email stating that the debt is written off. I not only have to cope with the stress of discussing this everytime a letter drops through the door but I also have to deal with his very distraught wife. Please do not rent or lease from this company if you want to leave your grieving relatives in a stress free situation, they are the worst company I have ever dealt with!!!!
