Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 264 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers expressed deep frustration regarding unhelpful customer support agents, rude personnel, and completely broken communication channels across multiple platforms. Many passengers frequently encountered severe flight delays, unexpected cancellations, and lost luggage while receiving virtually no effective assistance or empathy from the ground staff when they needed help most. Some reviewers were happy with the friendly cabin crew, punctual flights, and pleasant onboard service during their long journeys. A few other people also felt that certain staff members provided exceptional support, handled complex reservations successfully, and resolved booking problems efficiently when contacted directly.

Stranded in Santiago, Chile

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Iberia.

On April 11, I contacted Iberia customer service to change our return flight from Santiago, Chile to Valencia, Spain because my wife was too ill to travel. The agent specifically instructed me to apply for a health voucher rather than pay for a flight change, as it would be the more appropriate and cost-effective option given the circumstances.

I submitted the application immediately and received written confirmation early on April 12 that the voucher had been approved and would be delivered shortly.

What followed was a series of avoidable delays created by Iberia's own process failures. When I called to follow up, I was told they needed to know whether the voucher covered just the sick passenger or the entire booking — information they could have requested during the application process. I clarified it covered all passengers.

On a second call, I was told the voucher had not been issued because they did not have my phone number on file. I was told I could email it. When I did, I received an automated reply instructing me to contact Iberia through official channels — making the email channel they had just directed me to completely useless. I called again the following day and was given a specific email address to use. I sent my phone number there as instructed. I have since discovered that this email address has been disabled and is no longer in service — meaning the official channel Iberia's own agent directed me to no longer exists.

Today, five days after the written approval, I was told to expect a further 3 to 7 business days.

My family has been stranded in Santiago as a direct result of following Iberia's own guidance and relying on their written approval. I have filed a formal complaint through Iberia's website. As of today, April 17, I am purchasing new flights out of pocket and will be seeking full reimbursement. If unresolved, I will escalate to AESA and the European Consumer Centre.

I am writing this not out of frustration but because an approved commitment has not been honored and every follow-up call has produced a new excuse rather than a solution. I would welcome direct contact from Iberia's customer relations team to resolve this.

A disaster and extremly disappointing

We had an extremely disappointing experience with Iberia on our round-trip flight from Madrid to Lima (Madrid–Lima–Madrid), despite paying a significant premium for comfort and specific seating.

We deliberately chose Iberia because they offered Premium Economy, which was important for our family, as we are all quite tall and need extra legroom. In addition to upgrading to Premium Economy (approximately €250+ per person per flight), we also paid around €100 per person per flight just to reserve specific seats to sit together. In total, this meant hundreds of euros extra per flight—well over €1,000 across both directions.

However, on both the outbound and return flights, Iberia failed to deliver the service we paid for. Due to alleged aircraft changes, we were downgraded and unable to use Premium Economy in either direction. We were not informed in advance—twice—and no adequate alternative was offered.

What makes this even worse:
• We called Iberia twice the day before each flight to confirm our seating and explained our situation clearly (including our height constraints). We can prove these calls.
• Despite this, nothing was done, and we were still downgraded.
• On the outbound flight, one family member couldn’t even get an XL seat and physically could not fit in a standard seat. Instead of resolving the issue, Iberia made us pay extra for a Business Class seat out of pocket.
• No compensation, no proper support, and no effort to accommodate us.

This trip was also meant to be special, as we were celebrating my mother’s 60th birthday. We specifically invested in comfort to enjoy the journey together—but Iberia ruined both the outbound and return experiences.

Failing once might be bad luck. Failing twice, without communication or compensation, is unacceptable.

We paid for a premium experience and received none of it. This is extremely unprofessional and feels like a complete breach of trust.

I cannot recommend Iberia based on this experience.

What Iberia did to my 8-Month Pregnant Wife

I sincerely hope this review puts Iberia out of business. My wife is nearing eight months pregnant. On April 14, 2026, she had a flight from Porto to Madrid (flight number IB 0544). She had wheelchair assistance (confirmed) in Porto and again in Madrid. From Madrid, she was flying to Fortaleza, Brazil (IB 0149). Because her flight landed late in Madrid, wheelchair assistance got her to the gate 12 minutes after her departure time. THE PILOT AND GATE AGENT OF FLIGHT IB 0149 CLOSED THE GATE AND DEPARTED, LEAVING AN 8-MONTH PREGNANT WOMAN BEHIND, KNOWING SHE WAS IN A CONFIRMED WHEELCHAIR.

To add insult to injury, Iberia’s helpdesk “solved” this issue by having her wait in Madrid for 13 hours for a new flight that departed Madrid at midnight. This flight would have taken her to São Paulo, where she would have waited another four hours until finally flying to Fortaleza. All this angst and stress for an 8-month pregnant woman going through the airport in a wheelchair for 12 minutes. Instead, we (not Iberia at the airport) found another airline (Latam) that got her onto one of their flights 3 hours later.

There are so many horrible reviews for this airline, but I hope this review finally puts this airline out of business. While many of us have had bad experiences with airlines over the years, what Iberia did this morning takes the cake because it reaches another level of inhumanity and cruelty.

After reading the countless negative…

After reading the countless negative reviews for Iberia Airlines we stand in accord with most of the reviews. Our first flight with IA is that of a minor league airline. They take the airline payment and follow with defensive, dismissive and rude customer service from their customer center at the airport along with the counter attendants. Though I attempted to approach them with the highest professional respect regarding my wife’s wheelchair assistance (requested ahead of time) after we deboarded, I persisted until they took care of her arriving at baggage claim to the uber wait area. Though I have an opportunity to post a review, IA does little to improve their services. This horrible adventure gives us opportunity never to fly again with this minor league airline.

Scammers working with booking.com to defraud customers

The customer service agent supervisor admitted to being a scammer and fraudster. It cancelled my flight on March 6th but still hasn't refunded me. I've been calling them multiple times, but the agent says that because I booked through booking.com it's going to take a lot of time and they are taking retaliatory measures, and that I can't ask them why they are not refunding the booking agency. They deliberately cancels flights and then not refund customers who booked through third-party agencies. Avoid them at all cost. Such a way to represent your country, scammers.

Iberia is a Disgrace to Spain

**An update to the below experience and for anyone reading this that have been conned by these scammers.

They will always deny your claim and in my case, even deny I was booked on to the flight in question. But just ensure you have all of your proof organised and you also anticipate what these scammers will try and say to get out of paying you what is legally yours.
Approach your local ECC (European Consumer Centre) online, you will have a discovery call with them, send them your evidence and then they will forward on to ECC in Spain for mediation. If Iberia still refuse your claim, then there is a special EU claims court where you pay only €60 and have their verdict legally binding, so that these scammers are forced to pay you, with costs. There is also the option of the AESA, but this body looks just as inept as the airlines they enforce **

This company should be avoided at all costs.

I have never experienced such a complete breakdown in service, communication, and accountability as I did - and continue to do so - with Iberia.

This was not a one-off issue — my return flight was cancelled twice. The original flight (19/3) was cancelled in advance and rebooked. However, the replacement flight on 22/3 was then cancelled without any prior notice or warning (I discovered when I went to check in and there was no flight showing), which left me stranded on the other side of the world with no assistance.

Despite this - and the fact that the rebooked flight for 22/3 was showing IN THEIR OWN APP for at least 2 weeks - Iberia continues to reject my indisputable claim under EC261/2004 by referring to the original 19/3 cancellation, completely ignoring the SECOND cancellation on 22/3 where the ACTUAL ISSUES occurred.

When the 22/3 flight was cancelled, I received no assistance and was repeatedly told by Iberia via phone and WhatsApp, that they could not help me directly and that I needed to go through the booking agent (they also refused to tell me directly why the flight had been cancelled). At the same time, the booking agent was telling me to contact Iberia - on Iberia's instruction - to book directly because their systems would be more up to date when checking flight availability.

Out of desperation, I called Iberia in Spain from the British Embassy on 24 March. The agent assured me multiple times that I had been rebooked onto a flight on 26 March. However, when I called back later because I did not trust a word Iberia said by then, Iberia had no record of this conversation or any booking.

I then attempted to visit Iberia’s office in Quito, only to find it was an appointment-only location in a managed building. I was unable to access in-person assistance for approximately 48 hours while stranded with no support. When I was finally seen, I was booked onto a flight almost immediately — directly contradicting all prior claims that Iberia could not assist me and obviously recognising the cancelled flight I had for 22/3, which their claims department is refusing to recognise.

To make matters worse - as I touched on above - Iberia informed Booking.com that the 22/3 flight was “no longer operational,” yet publicly available flight tracking data shows that the flight still operated and on time.

I incurred significant additional costs for accommodation, food, and travel to and from the Embassy (3 x onward travel including additional baggage), all due to Iberia’s failure and refusal to provide basic duty of care.

Iberia are also very aware that their online claims form - the ONLY official way a passenger can claim from them - has a glitch that shows the claimant an error message when trying to submit all of the details. This 'glitch' is well known on the internet and clearly meant to discourage aggrieved passengers from claiming.

This was not just pathetically poor service, which is continuing through their claims process — it is a systemic failure across communication, customer support, and accountability.

My claim is now with the AESA - please do the same when you are dealing with this awful company.

If something goes wrong with your travel, do not expect Iberia to help you in any way.

Iberia Club website is very poor

Iberia Club website is very poor. Basic functions don't work. I tried to do the simple task of changing my email address on my account. Everything appears to proceed correctly, a OTP is sent to your old email address. You enter the code and save the changes...supposedly! You then get a message that something went wrong. You get sent a new OTP. And so you go round in circles until the Iberia system has had enough! This is a wind up!! A useless system. The android app is no better!

Until this incident

Until this incident, I had never had any problems with Iberia. However, this experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing.

I purchased a flight ticket (reservation MYW24) for approximately €1200, using a valid debit card, and the transaction was completed successfully. The booking was confirmed, and everything seemed fine.

However, shortly after, Iberia automatically cancelled my reservation due to “security filters”, without any prior warning, no verification request, and no possibility to resolve the issue.

Here is what happened step by step:

1. I completed the purchase and paid in full using my debit card.

2. The booking was confirmed.

3. Iberia cancelled the reservation automatically without any action from my side.

4. I was told it was due to internal “security filters.”

5. No explanation was given, and no attempt was made to verify my identity or payment.

6. I was informed that the refund will take 15 to 30 business days.

On top of that, it took me more than 24 hours just to get in touch with someone, through an inefficient WhatsApp support channel. There is no direct phone support available, which makes the situation even worse when dealing with urgent issues.

What makes this situation particularly serious is the reason for my trip:
I was buying this ticket to travel to Colombia to visit my grandmother, who is currently battling cancer. Because of Iberia’s actions, I am now left without a ticket and without access to €1200, making it extremely difficult to arrange another flight in time.

This is not just a technical inconvenience — it has real and serious personal consequences.

At the very least, Iberia should:

Provide a clear explanation of what triggered the cancellation

Allow customers to verify their payment instead of cancelling automatically

Offer faster refunds in these cases

Provide proper and accessible customer support (not just WhatsApp)

I understand that security measures are necessary, but the way this was handled shows a clear lack of customer care and responsibility.

I would strongly advise other passengers to be cautious when booking with Iberia, especially for urgent or important travel, as you may risk having your reservation cancelled without warning and your money tied up for weeks.

Disappointing intercontinental flight experience: poor seating and faulty screen

I’m giving two stars only because the outbound flight was acceptable, but the return intercontinental flight from Chile to Spain was a complete failure in terms of comfort and customer service.
1. Seating: My partner and I were seated five rows apart. Despite explaining the situation, the cabin crew made zero effort to assist us or help coordinate a seat swap with other passengers.
2. Faulty entertainment system: The multimedia screen was unusable, freezing every 5-10 seconds. I requested assistance twice; the system was reset every time, but it only resulted in a blank screen. I could watch one video only, ending up watching the same scenes many times due to constant audio-video lags. The crew seemed indifferent to this.
3. Special baggage (bicycles): Traveling with a bike was extremely stressful. The reservation can only be made via phone, with no confirmation until 48 hours before departure. Plus, despite being the most expensive rate on the market for only 23kg, there is no clear information regarding maximum dimensions of the boxes.

I cannot recommend Iberia for travelers with sports equipment or those seeking a reliable, comfortable experience. Given the ticket price, such technical and logistical shortcomings are unacceptable.

Not disability friendly at all.

Not travelled with them yet but I have hidden disabilities and they have refused to help me book my seats prior to travel and get my friend seated next to me. I may need her assistance in the airport and on the flight. I also need to sit further at the back so I dont have lots of talking behind me. The man was rude on the phone insisting nothing he could do. Disgusting service for disabilities. If anyone Iberia can sort it for me please give me a number to call..

Awful vegetarian food

Flight was on time, comfortable and comparatively priced but as a vegetarian I found the food we were served on our flight from San Jose to Madrid was mostly disgusting, the main resembled baby food, sloppy potato and peas with a side of raw carrot accompanied by a soggy roll.
Dessert was a tiny portion of melon.
Breakfast was no better, a soggy roll with two slices of soggy courgette and yet more grated carrot.
I’m not a rabbit!
Tried to complain to customer services but they don’t seem to have one?

Worst Airline Experience Ever

First, the flight was delayed with no updates. At the posted boarding time, we knew there was an issue because they hadn't even provided a gate. When we finally were told to board, we were yelled for not having our passports ready, even though it was a local flight and we were not told previously to have them out. We were flying business class, and the seats did not even have extra leg room. It was a short flight, but business class amounted to sitting in front and receiving a snack and drink. Then we arrived in Madrid, where after 90 minutes, we started to ask, and an employee told us they were coming and we just have to wait, but we hadn't even given him our flight number yet! The next person we spoke to confirmed they were lost. They told us that we could buy replacement clothing and essentials and we would be reimbursed. Over the course of 3 days, they never contacted us, forcing me to call them repeatedly for updates, only to be told to go buy more clothes. The only instruction we were given was to avoid "luxury items" which we did. In the end, we sent in all our receipts to be told that they were reimbursing less than half our expenses because "only 2 of 4 bags were delayed for 2 days.." When I corrected them that 2 of 2 (all) bags were delayed for 3 days, they said that did not change their reimbursement calculation.

I will avoid Iberia at all costs in the future and recommend everyone do the same.

Worst travel experience I’ve had with an airline

I rarely write reviews, but this experience with Iberia was genuinely one of the most stressful trips I’ve ever had.

Everything started one day before departure, when we discovered an error in my mother’s ticket name. We spent around 10 hours calling and emailing trying to fix it. We were told it had been corrected, but when we arrived at the airport, no one could confirm anything. The only response we received was to contact the airline ourselves or buy a new ticket. We were left running under extreme pressure until the very last moment before boarding, not knowing if she would even be allowed to travel.

What makes this even more frustrating is that, in the end, she traveled on two flights with the incorrect name and one with the corrected one — without any issue at all. This clearly shows how poorly the situation was handled.

On the return journey, things got worse. Our three checked bags were left behind without any notice, despite having more than enough connection time. We had to track everything ourselves and return to the airport the next day to collect them. From a passenger’s perspective, it is very difficult to understand how baggage is selectively left behind under these circumstances.

What is most disappointing is not only what happened, but how it was handled. Despite acknowledging parts of the issue, Iberia refused any meaningful resolution and kept repeating the same response, offering only points or discount vouchers instead of taking real responsibility.

This was not a minor inconvenience — it was a combination of poor system handling, lack of coordination and very weak customer support.

After this experience, I will not choose Iberia again and I would strongly advise others to think twice before booking with them.

Iberia canceled my flight at 23:30

Iberia canceled my flight at 23:30. We were left waiting at the airport with no information at all. When I went to the Iberia customer service desk, they told us to go eat “free dinner” and wait. The “dinner” was just a terrible cheese sandwich and a cola.

At 02:00, there was still no information. They told us to find a hotel and said they would only cover up to 100 euros. At that time of night, there were no hotels available at that price on Booking.com—or anywhere.

I needed a new ticket, but they told me, “Sorry, we are not customer service, call them,” even though they were sitting at the Iberia desk. I called customer service and waited 20 minutes on hold. The first agent said, “Hi ma’am, we have one available flight at 11:00 the next day, please wait,” and then the call disconnected.

At 03:30, I called again. Another agent said, “Sorry, we cannot help you,” and put me on hold again for 30 minutes. By 04:00, my flight was still not fixed.

Finally, at 04:30, customer service gave me a ticket with another airline. However, I realized that baggage was not included, even though I had already paid 140 euros for extra baggage on my original ticket. I was forced to pay again for baggage on the new flight.

Agent quoted one price, charged another. Customer Service was useless.

I called to make a reservation. The agent offered me a price. After repeating it back to her and confirming the amount included all taxes and fees, I accepted. She gave me a confirmation number and emailed me a link to make payment. We hung up. I clicked the link. The price was now over 500 euro higher. I called customer service, filled out a complaint form, waited several days for someone to listen to the recording of the call and get back to me about correcting the price. Finally "Juan M."responded via email from a no reply address to let me know that "prices fluctuate".

Misleading booking procedure / Never again IBERIA

If you select your flight, enter passenger and credit card details, your flight is booked... not so with IBERIA airline. You will receive an e-mail ´booking confirmation´ which makes you assume, all has gone well, it even contains a booking code, and two days later you even get an e-mail stating ´receipt´ .... BUT their booking confirmation mail is for you to confirm your booking and the receipt mail is a receipt for the booking fee for the booking they have cancelled!!! That is hilarious and definitely not a standard procedure. Firstly I thought I´m stupid (despite being a frequent traveller) but after reading through comments on IBERIA this is a common problem and you can find the same issue all over the last 10 years. But this miserable airline has no intention to change their procedure. IBERIA is making 1MlnEUR loss per day, but they didnt come up with the brilliant idea to charge customers after they key in the credit card details!

If you read through comments of customers you wonder why that airline still exists.
IBERIA is the shame of Spain.

Cannot wait to read that IBERIA has grounded!
