They didn't want to warn the public...

I wrote to The Independent newspaper that I have evidence that my plastic surgery was done by a plastic surgeon who is HIV positive and comes from Poland, he infects patients in Bristol. I also informed the local authorities and the minister of health about it. The owner of this newspaper is not British and did not want to write about the case to warn the public. Newspaper was founded in 1986.

A highly trusted brand, but a very average website

I began reading the Indy on day one. It used to be an excellent newspaper, and it has always seemed to be be genuinely independent. But it struggled with the move to digital. I tried to use its website for a few years, but it was horrendously bloated with adverts to the extent that it was completely unusable, and eventually I moved to the Times, whose subscription website was infinitely more user friendly and had far more content.

I still consider the Indy a highly trusted brand, so during lockdown a paid for a one year subscription just to give it another try. It's much better these days, but there are still too many intrusive adverts and other clutter, the news content seems very limited, and the user comments sections are poorly laid out and inconsistently moderated. I want to be an Indy customer, but with great regret, I won't be renewing my subscription.

Independent…Really? No way, No how

It is difficult to see how the I is "independent". It is the most depressing newspaper on the planet. It has repeatedly supported total losers at the polls and delights in belittling any efforts made to improve the flagging spirits of the long suffering British public. Remember at the start of the pandemic they rolled out 3 "expert" professors who emphatically told us that food rationing must be implemented immediately. What a sad limp daily paper

News website not to be trusted

News website not to be trusted. I news report on EU vaccination is fake news. They inflate vaccination figures in the U.K. and report down every other country in the EU.
Clearly a fake news website with an agenda

Not so Independent

The independent decides to call people anti vaxxers on their headline about the boycotting of Tesco for their Christmas propaganda advert.

Well they are no better than Tesco, people who choose not to have the jab are not anti vaxxers, it’s their bodies their choice.

Have some respect and report things independently.

Live up to your name the independent 😡

Because any topic regarding crypto…

Because any topic regarding crypto sells they talk about it all the time yet they are completely clueless!
Anything they say is usually about 7 days too late (even years old when they spread FUD regarding the China ban) Crypto is volatile so +5% or -5% in the same day isn't such a big deal... Especially if the crypto is up 300% for the year? Yet they'll sensationalise it as "Huge Dump" or crypto "explodes". Totally amateur but 1 star because the paper is hopefully recyclable!

Content is alright, when you can get to it

Good columnists and features for the most part, it's not LIBRUL PROPUGANDUH unless you're one of the eight people who still thinks putting the London sewer fatberg in charge of the country was a good idea - but it's not like you're going to be able to make up your own mind because you'll have clicked away before a tenth of the adverts have loaded. Honestly, we're getting to Daily Express levels of eye-slurry here. Someone discovers a NEAT TRICK every day, it would seem.

They've got to make their money somehow, I get that, no such thing as free news - and hey, they finally opted for an off-the-shelf comment engine, rather than their own thing - but a decent engineer could spend a couple of days making this site so much better an experience. You don't need to block the UI thread this much.

out of pocket £69.99 and can't read what I paid for

Subcribed to the offer of £34.99 - a 50% discount - for a Premium Subscription, and was charged the full £69.99.
Not only have I not been refunded the £34.99, the customer service colleague S.W in deleting my old account, has cancelled my new subscription.
First I was asked to clear my computer cache, but if this didn't work [to apply the discount to my credit card payment?] she had a plan B. Plan B never transpired, the next time S.W of Customer Services emailed me was to say she couldn't find a subscription with the email provided, had I registered it under a different email.
1) They send confirmation of the purchase of the subscription to the email that the new account was registered with, but send the instructions to set up the Profile and Login details to the email associated with the OLD account.
The above took from the 4th to 9th sept, I telephoned and no reply, I have left 2-3 messages.
I submitted a new enquiry this morning 10th Sept, suggesting that S.W needs sacked, and if S.W is the customer Service Manager, her superior needs to get in contact with me. Stating again, as in the emails, Trading Standards have copies of all comms. Fortunately I paid with a credit card, so the bank has proof of the transaction even though S.W deleted the newly paid for - in full, and never discounted - subscription in The Independents records.
A great paper, and journalists, but completely and utterly let down by a dismal, shambolic, and disgraceful customer service team. Once they have your money, they just ignore you. So I'm out of pocket for 70 quid and no access to what I paid for

More or less unusable website due to…

More or less unusable website due to video ads, clickbait stories, and other garbage littering every news story page. It's counterproductive because you can only make money from Internet ads if someone stays long enough to click the link. If they abandon the page you get nowt, zero, nothing.
