The trip is amazing in many respects, the star that is missing is due to the road system in Zimbabwe and because of that, couple of days were spent on long bumpy drives with very limited activities. B... See more

Blackmailed into taking optional trips because if we don't then the other people can't go. Deplorable ethics. I've complained whilst on the trip and told intrepid how upsetting it is and that were being villified by the tour leader and the group. Basically fobbed off, with "we'll deal with it urgently" 18 hours later no response and the others have already missed the trip. We'll never travel with them again and probably won't even continue with this.
Edit Thank you for your response intrepid it's a shame it took one of my reviews to call you to action. Thank you also for the fake email for customer care that doesnt work. Nice try though.

Visiting Cuba now in its straitened circumstances involved an act of faith with Intrepid. This was fully justified and all aspects of the tour were rewarding. Yummet our team leader was excellent, professional at all times, attentive, available and good fun. The accommodation was excellent throughout.

Customer Care Consultant, Michelle was excellent in dealing with the feedback from our Intrepid trip, from efficient communication detailing actions Intrepid would be taking and a genuine interest in us, as valued Intrepid travellers.

I recently returned from doing the 18 day Morocco Encompassed trip with Intrepid Travel. I started out as a solo traveler and ended the trip with a group of good friends. Our tour leader, Abou, is one of the best I have encountered in many years of traveling. He is so proud of his culture and heritage and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with us. He handled some difficult situations in a polite and professional manner and was willing to help at all hours if needed.
I liked how Intrepid strongly encouraged the refilling of drink bottles instead of continually buying plastic bottles and the use of reusable canvas bags for shopping.
I definitely recommend this trip to anyone wanting to see and experience something of the way of life in Morocco and to learn something of the history of the country along the way. Can’t wait for my next trip!

As a solo traveler, I have always enjoyed the camaraderie of the groups I travelled in, safety first by the teams/ company. The local team leader is an added benefit, there is enough free time to do your own thing and they are also happy to recommend if needed. The places we stay in are central and convenient, clean and safe.
I will definitely continue many more travels with Intrepid.

We’ve recently arrived home from an amazing Morocco encompassed 18 day adventure. While in the High Atlas Mountains at a home stay, I lost my wallet. Fortunately I had a Spotminder tracking card in my wallet that I was able to inform our guide of its location. On his subsequent visits to the area he searched everywhere without success until another local was able to find it and inform our guide and they made arrangements for my wallet to be returned to Marrakech and it’s now on its way back to Australia. Intrepid and its guides work hard and go above and beyond to ensure that our holiday met our expectations. Thanks Abou

Visiting these three countries (Thailand, Malaysia & Singapore) gave me and my wife a real feel/sense of these three countries and the people there. We personally would have liked more time in Bangkok, but we enjoyed the time we spent there.

My daughter and I did a comfort level tour of Egypt and Jordan in November. It was fabulous! Great itinerary, well balanced between historical, cultural and fun activities, and well paced between busy and quieter days. The small group tour (max 12) was lovely and our guides in each country were first class - great info about the sites & culture and info for our security. They were personable and both had a great sense of humour too! Our buses and accommodation were good quality. I had previously only travelled independently and was a bit worried about feeling like a number & not having enough free time- but this tour was wonderful & after receiving an introduction to each site we had plenty of time to explore ourselves, and great optional activities. Balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings? Yes please. Camel ride to watch the sunrise over Wadi Rum in the morning then snorkel in the Red Sea in the afternoon? Yes and yes please! We loved the tour, and also loved Intrepid’s ethos of using local companies (including dinners with local families in Aswan & Petra). I absolutely recommend Intrepid and will definitely use Intrepid myself again.

I travelled on an Intrepid Travel Morocco group tour booked through Flight Centre. I fully understood that “local charm” would involve fewer Western comforts, particularly in remote regions.
However, what we experienced went far beyond this and reflected a consistent lack of attention to basic health, safety, and professional standards.
1. Accommodation repeatedly presented issues including slippery tiled bathrooms with steps, exposed electrical wiring (including in wet areas), blocked plumbing, lack of hot water across multiple hotels (not limited to remote towns), unclean bed linen, and no heating during winter conditions. This is not about luxury — it is about minimum acceptable standards.
2. Food arrangements often left travellers a captive audience for guide-selected venues. Several group members experienced gastrointestinal illness following meals at these locations, and concerns raised were not meaningfully addressed.
3. The most concerning incident occurred during a “guided walk” at Todra Gorge, conducted along narrow, slippery paths with steep drop-offs, despite including elderly participants and others with mobility limitations. Risk concerns were dismissed rather than assessed.
The contrast was striking when booking independently in Chefchaouen, where accommodation was safer, cleaner, and hospitality genuinely warm at similar cost.
Local authenticity should not come at the expense of traveller safety. Based on this experience, I would strongly encourage prospective travellers to research carefully before booking.
Note: these concerns relate to the tour management & safety standards, not to Morocco or Moroccan people.

My second trip with Intrepid travel, Georgia/Armenia explorer, was well lead by our tour leader Anton. We were never short of available activities & good company of the others in the group. This trip met all my expectations. In hindsight I think I would have just spent the two weeks in Georgia as it was more to my liking. This trip just wets my appetite for future visits to the region! Wonderful food, wine, historical sights, hiking & hospitable locals-it is a great travel experience for the curious traveler. I've just booked my third trip with Intrepid with hopes of more happy travels in the future!

As a single traveler, I found Intrepid to be very accommodating throughout my trip to Morocco. Hassan, our guide, was outstanding and very knowledgeable about all aspects of our tour. Helping the locals by promoting their artisanship was a rewarding experience.

Fantastic experience sailing - the captain Nikos was wonderful, responsible and nice; we swam so much in beautiful uncrowded places and visited loads of islands. We loved it.

Itinery for the New Zealand Trip was well chosen. Plenty of attractive additional activities offered. Our teamleader Tim was perfect, he organized everything in a perfect, relaxed way and was very knowledgeable.

The company has a responsible approach to travel. It supports local charities, uses local guides and encourages plastic free shopping through providing canvas bags. The insights the guides provide are unique and the tours are thoughtfully planned so that your experience is authentic. An issue over our accommodation was resolved quickly and helpfully. Communication over this matter was excellent. I wish I’d known about the app before travelling though so maybe Intrepid needs to ensure they communicate just as thoroughly with travellers who book through an agent (as we did) prior to the holiday, as those who book directly. However I have travelled with Intrepid before and will do so again. Their guides are top notch and are the key to the success of a holiday.

This is the first tour I have done alone without knowing anyone beforehand. I am a mature traveller and this ticked all the boxes for me, being a small group tour, in an exotic colourful country.
I have to say that it exceeded all my expectations and I would highly recommend it to any reasonably fit travellers. I will be back for more tours.

This was my first trip with Intrepid (booking the Everest Base Camp trip) and I will start with the good.
- The online customer service was great
- Our mountain guide was incredible. He instantly brought the group together and dealt with everything. He made life so easy for us, had amazing knowledge of the people, the region, nature, religion and everything in between. He also really cared for the sustainability of the environment which was wonderful. He was the star of the show and is a credit to the Intrepid brand.
- The local porters were also amazing. Friendly, professional, humble and super human.
Now onto the reasoning behind this negative review
Firstly, getting to Lukla. This route is known to be a bit of a pain for all companies, but I do really believe it could have been executed much better by Intrepid. We were initially scheduled to fly from KTM. When bad weather hit, we were told we could either do a different trek or take a bus 9 hours to Manthali. We chose the latter as we’d travelled half way around the world to do EBC..We then spent the whole second day driving there. On the third day, the weather was not good enough and we had to extend (at a cost of $60 for each of us). Fourth day arrives and we are met with groups who were due to start with Intrepid 2-3 days after ours. We arrive at the airport and the other groups immediately catch their flight. We have to wait and flights stop running in the afternoon. AGAIN we do not have a flight. We have to extend again for another $60. At this point we’ve each paid an additional $120 and two separate Intrepid groups (who were due to start after ours) have made it to Lukla before us (and without additional cost). To add salt to the wound we are stuck in the basement of a dingy outhouse separate to the resort that the other Intrepid groups were booked into - Incurring food and drinks costs in addition to the extra charges we’ve had to pay. It was an awful way to start the trip and the first example of poor contingency planning by the company. All you needed to do was check the weather forecast to see that flights would likely not go ahead and plan accordingly. We finally made it on day 4 after all of this chaos.
Onto the main issue; during our stay at Dingboche, I developed a stomach bug(just before our hike to Lobuche), despite only ever eating in the Intrepid nominated tea houses - many others got ill at these tea houses, suggesting a poor hygiene standard overall. I was ill, so had to see the doctor as an emergency. I was told to take one days rest and then to continue my trek. I was given meds and sent on my way. I needed a days recovery before I could continue. However, I was told that, on the basis of safety, Intrepid would not support my continuation. While I appreciate a high sense of safety and risk prevention. This reason is complete and utter rubbish given what I saw from other intrepid groups and what was recommended by the doctor. We crossed paths with many Intrepid groups on our trek. Most of the travellers were ill to some degree, which is to be expected. However, one member of an intrepid group (scheduled a couple of days after ours) had to have an IV in Dingboche - Due to food poisoning, inability to eat and severe dehydration. Yes, an IV!! He was allowed to continue despite being in a far more high-risk situation than myself. Equally many members of all the groups we met all had diarrhoea. My conclusion was that it was evidently not a question of safety at all, it was simply a question of scheduling and planning from the company. I was in a small group, with one guide, and that, in combination with the tight schedule and the delay in us getting started, ended my trip and prevented me from getting to base camp. Should note that the guide and porter were absolutely fantastic in having to deal with this situation and supporting me while I was ill (as it wasn't their fault at all).
For many, this is a once in a lifetime experience. The total cost of the trip is into the thousands of dollars. This doesn’t mean that conditions should be nice. It’s an isolated environment and standards will be low and things will not always go to plan. I accept that. But to not make it to EBC based upon something outside of my control and, ultimately, a very strict schedule, was hugely disappointing and I do feel completely and utterly robbed.
So my advice: for this kind of trip, use a local company, who build contingency into the planning. They will afford greater flexibility and will ensure that your trip is not wasted on the basis of a tight schedule(in an environment, like I say, where disturbances are a common occurrence).
I have many more treks planned and will not be booking any trips with Intrepid after this experience. Equally I will highly dissuade all of my family, friends and followers from using Intrepid’s services for any adventure trip.

I recently returned from an amazing trip to Hobart and Southern Tasmania with Intrepid. As well as seeing southern Tasmania, incorporating Huon Valley, Port Arthur and the Tasman Peninsular, the tour also took us to Bruny Island where the scenery was just spectacular, especially as we travelled along the coastal roads.
Simon, the tour guide, was always ready to assist or answer any questions about the locations we visited. He took us to local food and beer processing businesses, where we could sample their cheeses and variety of beverages. He was always ready to make a quick detour so that he could show us a unique scene or location. He had a great sense of humour and I’m sure everyone on the tour enjoyed the trip as much as I did. There were visitors from the U.S. and everyone settled together in enjoying the events each day. We also dined together every night, trying different restaurants nearby to our hotel. The accommodation was very comfortable, being a 4 to 5 star.
I will have no hesitation in booking my next trip with Intrepid, following on from this amazing tour to Tassie…
