Intruder is neither smart nor ethical…

Intruder is neither smart nor ethical as a computer security service.

They hammer the servers they scan an unreasonable number of times (up to 48 000 hits on the SAME port in one night). This gets them blocked by everyone who's competent at server management. This also gets them published in abuse IP databases. The worst thing about this is that they use amazon compute for this. So they are getting IP addresses that other people are using for legitimate purposes blacklisted and blocked. So those legitimate users will experience periodic and nigh on impossible to debug service interruptions. If a reputable company came up with the block-headed idea of performing such a scan they would at least use their own servers.

At my company the IT security people have had to contact everyone who manages servers to tell us to unblock intruder. Annoying, but that doesn't help all the other innocent and uninvolved users with no connection to this bad actor.

Constant Battle with Account

The dashboard is great and intuitive. However, every other time I tried to scan a target from a client, my account would get "suspended". I'm tired of trying to fight to keep my account open, not worth the time or money. Plus, the chat bot doesn't give you options to prove you have authority to do the work aside from two options that really have nothing to do with immediate verification.

Better solutions than this company are Snyk and Acunetix for the same price or less.

Reply from Intruder

Hello Anna,

We’re really sorry to see that you had a frustrating experience with the platform and apologise for any inconvenience caused. If you would like to revisit Intruder, you’re more than welcome to reach out via contact@intruder.io and a member of the team would be delighted to assist you.

To address your feedback specifically, a member of the team took a look at you account and identified a couple of reasons for the suspension:

1. The account name (or company name) was set to ‘Student’ and since we don’t support academic use, the account was flagged.
2. The two targets you added didn’t correlate with the email domain used to sign-up (which can be indicative of a user scanning other people’s property).

Both of these can trigger a suspension and when that happens an email is automatically sent explaining the situation and how it can be resolved. We were able to confirm that an email was delivered, though we understand that sometimes they do get missed. We believe this may have also happened to an email that was sent by a member of commercial team offering a call.

As for the bot, it offers two options for establishing a user’s authority to scan a target, both of which connect you with a member of the team as they’re the ones that can manually verify this and reverse the suspension. We were only able to find one interaction between yourself and the bot, but as you didn’t click any of the options it automatically closed after three minutes. (Though you can reopen a ticket at anytime by replying or clicking a button).

We weren’t able to find any other correspondence from you, but if we have missed anything, please don’t hesitate to let us know so we can investigate and hopefully improve our processes.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kindest,
Team Intruder
