We are thrilled with our Elgrand conversion. A lovely job. Thanks Phil 👍👍
Collected my van this week from JAL and very impressed with both the vehicle and the beautiful camper conversion. I did have some frustrations around communication during the process, but these were completely resolved in the end as Phil and his team worked hard to get my van ready in time for an event. Any reservations I may have had prior to collecting my van disappeared as a result of the very comprehensive induction and information process on the day. Phil is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and really took his time. I left with my beautiful van, feeling informed and confident. A very happy ending. For that, JAL earn five stars from me.
After searching for a campervan for a while, most taking a year+ to supply, I decided upon JAL imports, who had a good selection of imported vehicles.
I now have a Toyota Regius van conversion from JAL imports, just recently picked up after ordering 6 months ago. My goodness, Phil is incredibly knowledgeable about all things van/conversions! Clearly passionate and wanting to provide the best quality. It surpassed my expectations. I had my first choice of interior, flooring, cupboards etc. The whole team have been so accommodating to my particular needs, for which I am very grateful. I have had a great time getting to know my new campervan. A dream to drive and is my new happy place. Any tweaks that need doing I am confident will be done. Super happy customer. Thanks Phil and team!
Hi, bought my Granvia from JAL 10 years ago, it say i have had NO issues with it would be an understatement - 10 MOTs - 10 first time passes and nothing more than a general servise every year. Phil was great, picked me up from the station when i came down from Scotland twice, help me choose the interior - well maybe not the orange seating and put his first pop top on a granvia (i know it cost him an arm and a leg but he never charged me anymore). Top quality servise and couldn't recommend then any higher. PS if you get a van, get a big air tent to go with it. Thanks Phil and your team 👍
Got a Mitsubishi Delica skyroof conversion from JAL. It took a while due to Covid and supply chain disruptions, but absolutely worth the wait. Finally collected it last Saturday, and could not be happier. The van itself is in great condition, and the conversion is beautiful. Meeting Phil it's apparent immediately how passionate and knowledgeable he is, and just how serious he is about quality of the campers he sells. I'm taking the Delica out of the UK into Ireland, and Phil has been very helpful with getting some extra paperwork I need to get that done too. I'd recommend JAL to anyone looking for a great camper, and would be very happy to return as a customer myself again.
Just bought a Mitsubishi delica from Phil at jalimports great service great knowledge and great car
Avoid if you can, Phil who we had dealt with was unbelievable rude. He talks over you. We asked if we can come on Sunday, to which Phil said “absolutely” when we got there Phil would not show us anything as he said we do not have an appointment…. !!!
We travelled with 2 little kids for over 40min…. Needless to say we were not pleased. Shame as we were hoping to get our van from there that day! But we won’t be coming back.

I bought a bongo from Phil at JAL autos a couple of years ago and what a brilliant vehicle it was. Through no fault of anyone I recently needed to resell.I called Phil and explained and he was happy to help out. The van was promptly sold on my behalf with the minimum of fuss. I would recommend any one wanting to buy a Bong to contact Phil at JAL.
Bought our Nissan Elgrand last year and have camped in it 4 times so far. Found Phil extremely knowledgable and very helpful. He answered any questions we had promptly and kept us informed all the way through. The standard of conversion was very high with good quality products used. When we picked her up we were over the moon with how she looked both outside and inside. We felt that we had been given good service throughout and would not hesitate to recommend him and not forgetting the team behind him that do the conversions - well done all of you from two very happy campers 👏👍
Called to discuss possible options on a camper. Guy who I spoke to was knowledgable and clearly capable. However he failed to send the promised stock list (1 star removed) and also spoke over on a couple of occasions (another star removed). Golden rules of a great Customer Experience are active listening, and do what you say you are going to do. Found an alternative supplier who do both of the above.
Just visited JAL for revision of my Bongo's skylift roof locks. New system appears to be working well.
I bought my van over 3 years ago as a retirement gift for myself. Since then I've toured the British Isles extensively, enjoyed festivals and camping trips with friends with no reliability issues.
With an older van (2001 model) there must be an element of luck here, but I researched widely before buying from JAL. I've met others who have purchased their vans from this company and told tales of excellent backup when problems arise.
We bought our much loved Regius camper from Phil at JAL, and “Penny”, as my youngest daughter christened her, has been a fantastic purchase we’ve enjoyed ever since. We’ve pottered around Salcombe in Devon, Corfe Castle, Southwold, Norfolk, Yorkshire and all over Normandy in her over the last few years and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Very comfortable to drive even on long journeys, and, to my relief, and on reflection surprise, enough space for us, our 2 kids, and the dog!
When we were configuring Penny, Phil was always willing to explain our options, make suggestions when we asked for them, and to let us know how things were progressing with our custom build. We’ve often had other van owners ask us about Penny, with some asking if it was a JAL van before we’d told them. In years to come we may upgrade to a bigger van, or just consign the kids to a tent outside! I would recommend JAL as a great place to get the camper you want from.
Thank you to Phil and the JAL team for all their help with the recent purchase, importation and conversion of our Mazda Bongo. We have it it now for seven months and have enjoyed a great summer using it last year. We made the right choice. The van has been done to a very high standard and has been fully reliable, never missing a beat. A few small problems have just been ironed out at our first visit back at no additional cost to us. Would be very happy to use the JAL team again.
After a level of highly informative communications with Phil at J.A.L I took the plunge and ordered a bongo. He was really helpful throughout the conversion process and the result was perfect.
Phil was very clear and emphasised all things to look out for on the van, warning signs, what to take care with and all information shared was duly noted.
I have never had a problem with the van throughout a multitude of enjoyable trips over thousands of miles in the 5 or so years I have owned the van. It still runs perfectly with no engine issues since. I have contacted Phil a couple of times with queries due to very minor conversion based issues and how to fix them and he has been happy to help, with simple adjustments or suggestions, which have worked. If I buy another Bongo I would return here for sure.
We took delivery of our Bongo camper van conversion from JAL a year ago. The vehicle was converted by JAL to a very high standard in line with our requirements and we received supportive advice and guidance throughout as to the specification. We have been on 5 Bongo expeditions so far and cannot fault the vehicle. We have spoken to various importers and conversion specialists but Phil and his team at JAL come out on top. If you are looking for a Bongo, Phil is the guy to call.
We bought a mazda bongo from this company in October last year imported from Japan. My husband drove it and within 30mins a warning light HOLD came on. He pulled over and called the owner who said not to worry the vehicle was warming up. The light had come on because the sensor had been switched on by a jet wash. We called the dealer numerous times over the next 2 weeks to report various issues - the light was still on, the air con didn't work, one of the break lights wasn't working, the window switch was faulty, the head rest was falling off. Eventually the engine blew. The firm were not helpful and the owner said that we would have to pay the cost to recover the vehicle to their garage. We had a 3 month warrenty which was ignored. They took the vehicle in for repair but weren't given any idea of when we might get it back. It took 3 months for them to give us a beaten up replacement car which also broke down, we had to replace a tyre and in the end couldn't drive it further. Again they said we would have to foot the cost to tow back the replacement car! Customer service consisted of angry texts and unanswered emails. They kept our money with no guarantee of repair or refund for 7 months. I'm writing because we only just got partially refunded. We are close to £2000 out of pocket and have been extremely inconvenienced. No apology.
