We received Mrs Ellison’s review and would like to take this opportunity to reply as follows:
On designing Mrs Ellison’s kitchen, she requested to not see the oak carcase of the unit. The designer interpreted this request to be the underside of the unit in question and in fact this was noted in an email between the designer and Mrs Ellison in which he replied “you will not see the oak carcase from your eye level if standing, however if you looked under the wall cabinet, then yes, it would be visible. If you preferred we could also clad the underside in green to hide the oak there as well”. Mrs Ellison’s response was “yes please”.
Upon installation Mrs Ellison contacted us to question the visibility of the carcase. Mrs Ellison was now referring to the carcase being visible through the shut line of the doors. A shut line is required in order for the doors to function, in this case Rational has the smallest shut line within the industry of 2mm.
Subsequently Mrs Ellison attended our showroom to discuss a way forward, Mrs Ellison was shown our displays with similar design to her own and noting that they are all manufactured with the carcase being visible through the shut line. Mrs Ellison agreed that this was the case, but she was insistent that she did not want this look. She referred once again to the discussion held with the designer with regard to the look she was requesting, it was also agreed at this point that the designer interpreted this to be only the underside of the carcase and not the shut line, had he been aware that the visibility through the shut line would be an issue he would have advised that this would not be achievable due to the manufacturers finish.
In a bid to resolve Mrs Ellison’s query we agreed to Rational’s representative, our kitchen designer, and Mrs Ellison’s kitchen installer to all attend her home to help resolve this matter.
A course of action was agreed in this meeting by Mrs Ellison’s kitchen installer who agreed to make alterations to the surrounding panels. The work required is therefore an additional labour charge to achieve the aesthetic finish. We would like to note that this is not as per our recommendation as we are always governed by the manufacture’s guidelines.
James James Kitchens has always provided excellent customer service for Mrs Ellison and responded within a timely manner throughout this process, whilst the time frame may have seemed excessive to our client it was not in fact an inordinate period given our required investigations. This is not an issue with the product or the design yet a difference of interpretation only.
Mrs Ellison’s kitchen has been designed, supplied, and installed as per her signed contract, plans and perspectives of which Mrs Ellison agrees and has since complimented us via a social media post of which we are very thankful.
