Special Ed and IEP needs an overhaul. My child has been falling through the cracks in this school since the 5th grade. My Husband and I have repeatedly complained and had a heck of a time trying to get our Daughter's needs acknowledged and accommodated. One would think the Teachers would recognize a struggling student, but it is apparently beholden upon the parents to write a letter and fight for an IEP now. Gone are the days of Teachers recognizing a child with learning disabilities and coming to parents and asking to have your child tested. My Daughter needs one-on-one Special Education for a full day--not one hour a day (and I have mentioned this multiple times) with 'extra (useless) help' sessions the Teachers are too busy for or cannot otherwise help her understand. They claim she has an above average IQ, we are not seeing that. The Teachers, Advisors and Admin personnel are pleasant to work with, except for one of them who pushed an issue of "Guardianship" and put it into my Child's IEP, when no one EVER mentioned it, let alone entertained that possibility, then proceeded to tell me "your child is going to be 18 and you have nothing to say about it!" This is uncalled for and a very, very unprofessional attack on the part of the school; appalling, to say the least!! This is not how one addresses a parent who has had a very active and responsible role in their Child's life. The School Social Worker told my Daughter she could have a special accommodation for her panic attacks and meltdowns with screens, and then basically told her to get over it after we asked her to put it into writing so she could get her equipment approved for SSA and she could use it in the classroom like she claims other students do. Also, it seems like the school constantly has problems with their equipment, frequently claims my child is missing from class, when she is not, claims assignments she has been present for are not turned in when she has already done them and has had to turn in repeatedly. The comp dept fails in fixing the system errors with clocking her in her class connects, and turning in so called missing assignments and my child has been marked absent for many days she has actually been in school. I keep a detailed calendar and am always home and present, nearby. This is supposed to be a Charter school, it seems they want to push my child out. She just wants a proper education and a Diploma. She is a Senior and falling through the cracks, won't be graduating this year. Probably not next, either. We have repeatedly asked that she can work at her own pace and have one on one IEP all day and that she is put into the grade level commensurate to her credit hours, they refuse to do that. She keeps having to take the same classes over every year for state requirements and will be repeating the 12th grade until she gets a Diploma, not a certificate of no value and be pushed out into the world without the proper credentials. It's awful, and she hates school. The Special Ed Teacher, does not seem to understand my Daughter's disability needs and why she cannot communicate with Mutism. DO BETTER!!

At the start of this year I lost the ability to use canvas and it's been hard to keep track of my sons progress. I've also called the tech line no help. The other app was so much better. Everything else is fine.
