Served by a stern, unfriendly, miserable member of staff in the cafe at Northallerton. Takes the edge off what should have been a pleasant experience.

20 min wait for a coffee??

Approx a 20min wait for a flat white. With just 4 or 5 people ahead of me. Then when I finally get to pay, the woman on the till walks off with a mumbled inaudible comment !! The poor lady taking orders and making drinks had to log on to the till to take payment. My phone battery was now flat, so I had to go and sit in the car for a further 10 mins so I could pay for some other shopping. I won't bother again!

GIVE US YER CASH AND SOD OFF

Had a very positive experience on 1st February with a staff member (Suzy) at the Mortonhall store regarding a poorly Peace Lily and Dracena. Advice you'd pay dearly for otherwise but Klondyke most likely exploit this with what is definitely a pittance in retail reward.
I emailed the customer 'service' department (I refuse to use the word team) using their maddening contact form (I despise those) to congratulate and thank Suzy in the hope there'd be some kind of reward scheme for staff.
I doubt there is such a scheme, however, as the customer 'service' department haven't even had the courtesy to respond. Not a peep.
If they just grab your cash in what is a very expensive store then flat out ignore you, how the hell do they treat their knowledgeable staff who bring that cash in??? Minimum wage and a bad attitude I'd wager.
I note they don't respond to TP reviews too. Given the number of negative reviews, I'm not surprised. They'd need a separate department.
I won't go back.

Suzy at Mortonhall: grab the colleagues you like and open your own store. Folk would flock.

Christmas Lunch at Howdens in Inverness

I felt the standard of food was excellent, myself and my three friends enjoyed all three courses. The table was set out for us in a festive Christmas Theme and a friendly face greeted us as we approached the restaurant. The food was lovely and hot and the staff were all friendly and helpful . We were served promptly and the staff were attentive especially Audrey . Thank-you for a lovely experience xx

Enjoyable Christmas lunch

A friend and I had the Christmas lunch at the Inverness garden centre, on Saturday, 2nd December 23.
The restaurant staff were welcoming and friendly. The table as with festive table cloth, a candle decoration and crackers.
Audrey, our waitress was attentive and cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble especially on a busy Saturday. We chose 3 courses. The prawn cocktail starter was enjoyable with plenty of sauce, followed by a generous helping of turkey with all the trimmings. It was hot and nicely presented.Dessert was equally enjoyable.
We felt the meal was excellent value and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Meg McKay.

INSECTS IN FOOD

KLONDYKE, MORTONHALL, EDINBURGH
Disgusted that salad served today had both a fly and caterpillar in it. Clearly salads not washed on preparation.
Even more disappointingly was reaction from staff who didn’t apologise and offered free cake instead of a refund. My son and his wife who also bought meals stopped eating their food as they were also disgusted. Complaint raised with Head Office today, will be interesting to see their response.

Just got off the Irish ferry and…

Just got off the Irish ferry and fancied a coffee and savory snack. We had our 2 well behaved, we think, little Pomeranian girls with us but were told very abruptly in entering that we would have to sit outside. It was siling down with rain. They have massive areas of tea room with hard floor area and 2 customers. We had a look and a member of staff said we would get soaked but could sit in the covered plant area. Still cold with a keaky roof.
50% of us now have fury friends and there are other more dog friendly places for refreshments so we and many others will use them in future.

my wife and i and mother in law went to…

my wife and i and mother in law went to gardenwise in dumfries today for lunch we often go to houghton hall for meals but today it was gardenwise we all find that the staff at gardenwise are much more friendlier and there service is second to none.my wife had the broccoli quiche and i had the corned beef pie and as soon as it arrived i commented to my wife look at the diffrence in the gravy it was as gravy should be at houghton hall its like a jug of water and you can hardly taste the corned beef in the pie yet here at gardenwise bearing in mind they are from the same group of garden centres there was no comparison the corned beef pie was really tasty and it was served with proper gravy and mushy peas we told the lady that served us it was excellent and explained to her about houghton hall she immediately passed our compliments to the chefs damien and errin and we told them we will certainly be coming back here for our meals everything was excellent from start to finish

The cafe food is excellent but

The cafe food is excellent but, the cutlery is always marked with water stains and dirty, you have to clean it yourself before you use it. It looks as tho the dish washer wants servicing or cleaning. And the trays aren't clean. I've asked numerous times for them to wipe a tray before i use it. This is the Woodmansey store in East Yorkshire.

Dogs not really welcome

Very good garden centres in Carlisle & Dumfries which purport to welcome dogs into its stores. That's great until you want a coffee or lunch; you can sit outside (even in the rain) but if you are alone with your dog you are not allowed to enter the restaurant to order anything. Most garden centres now have an inside area where you can sit with a dog, and allow you to go up to the till to order. I can only imagine they are paying lip service to 'dogs welcome'

quality plants and shrubs

We visit Klondyke garden centre Mortonhall garden centre now ) a lot ( maybe too much :0 ) I have always found the staff to be friendly and always know their stuff about the flowers/plants etc. I have only ever once had an issue with the cafe and service, however this was forgiven as they were very busy and short staffed, I should have complained looking back, however nothing can be done now. We tend not to go when its busy as we know it will be a slower service.

Staff with terrible attitude.

A female supervisor in the store at Falkirk absolutely humiliated me in front of all the customers. She insinuated that I changed a shelf edge label to get an item at a discounted price. When explained that it was one of the staff that took it and not myself she shouted “I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt” whilst storming away, in front of all the customers that were queuing. Spoke with the department manager and store manager Rob who couldn’t apologise enough but the damage was done. The other customers experienced her attitude and watched as I was left humiliated. Lovely store, but bad experience will ensure we will NEVER return.
