One you have a book downloaded the device works well as an e-reader. However since purchasing this I have spent more time attempting to get books onto the device than actually reading them. You connect to one drive to access books from the library, sometimes the sign in doesn’t work. When it does work I have borrowed books from the library, tried to sync them to the device which won’t work. The book has to be the exact same edition on both the library and the Kobo e-store. I have borrowed over 20 books from the library and 2 of them have been compatible.

I was really excited to get a Kobo instead of a Kindle, to support someone other than Amazon. But, overall, I'm a bit disappointed. The only library connection is Overdrive, which doesn't connect with Hoopla or Palace, only Libby. And the Kobo Plus subscription is nearly useless, very few new or interesting books available. The device itself is fine, no better or worse than the second-hand kindle I have, and not quite as nice as our Nook. The backup lighting is good, as expected. The difficulty in getting library books and ARCs to this device is what makes it less valuable, in my opinion. I won't use it as much and won't recommend it until these compatibility issues are resolved. Yes - I know I can download items onto my computer and connect to the Kobo, but 1) I can't download from most library apps, and 2) that's a pain. I've been differing to my second-hand kindle, which I really didn't want to do. Bummer.
I don't regret upgrading from my Kindle!
Exceptional battery life and easy to use. Couldn't be happier and I'm so glad I made the switch to Kobo
It’s a good product. I’m still learning how to get the most out of it but it’s good.
Excellent product!
The touch screen is very, very sensitive. When I touch a word for the dictionary it usually skips to the next page. The biggest issue is the lack of flexibility in advancing pages. It is limited to right side for advance and left side for reverse. I read 2 to 3 hours a night and this pretty much forces me to hold the reader in my left hand. Previous readers allowed advance pages by touching the right or left side. I was much happier with the previous 2 or 3 Kobo Readers.
It's so easy to use! From the power button, touch screen and easy access to various books, I've been loving my Kobo Clara!
Quality product. Light, easy to change settings and navigate book store.
Liked the reader, but so disappointed to find out that the Kobo Clara doesn't support two libraries at once. Even worse, Rakuten charged me $7.50 to return the reader.
The black and white screen looks great, does everything you could need from an ereader. Easy to read books both from the official store and external sources. The integration with Instapaper for reading news articles is great too.
Amazing way to read and decompress from all the chaos in life.
The on/off button is easy and responsive
Easy to use. Very portable
Light weight, easy to hold and small enough to fit into a purse
I can't rate it because they never sent it to me and refuse to reimburse me.
Love my kobo Clara
Except for lacking a "Landscape" reading mode, the basic blue cover $20 was somewhat flimsy and slippery for the price and worth $6 at best!
Love this!
I like the Kobo Clara BW's minimal learning curve, my ability to connect to Overdrive right from the device, and the ease of sideloading ebooks from my laptop to the reader using Calibre. Another really nice feature is "Natural Light" for reducing blue light for nighttime reading.
