OMG Konnekt - Just Do It

OMG Konnekt was exactly a it was described. Easy to order, easy to connect and such a lovely experience for my 92 year old aunt who has never used a smart phone. She get so excited when she can see me while we chat and I love her big smile at the end of the call.

Would be lost and alone without my Konnekt

I've had my Konnekt video phone now for almost two months. My hearing is less than 3% in one ear and doesn’t exist in the other, so using a normal phone is impossible for me. With a super powerful hearing aid in my only working ear I can just understand voices I'm familiar with, sometimes, with a lot of concentration.
I have had the NRS available for over two years but preferred not to use it unless it was an emergency: don't like the idea of going through a third person, especially with confidential information.
As a result, I was cut off from most people except those I met in person. Even then I often have to use a transcribing program to understand them.
Since I have my Konnekt video phone, things have changed dramatically. I can now use the phone almost exactly as I used to before going profoundly deaf. The captioning appears to be instantaneous and accurate - only some odd place names it has problems with. It even censors bad language inserting asterisks for the said word. (Smart people can work out what was being said as usually it starts to show and the number of asterisks is the number of letters in the word.)
I extremely happy with and it learns regular callers speech quite well. I have the loud base boosted speaker which makes it easily heard in other rooms and outside and talking on the phone. The captioning is almost completely in sync with the audio so it makes it very easy to understand, even without the video. I have only had one video call to date, as I get by perfectly well with just audio/captioning, even when ringing numbers for businesses and going through the menu options; the dial pad stays on the screen all the time, which is excellent.
The buttons are large enough to see without buttons, even when the entire 40 possible are used: the more people you put into the speed dial, the smaller the buttons get.
Konnekt people are extremely helpful and guide you through the entire process of setting up your phone for you. It comes with all your presets numbers and you just plug it in and either connects to your computer by Wi-Fi, cable, or it can come with its own Wi-Fi router.
Despite having a computer network I chose the latter, because it gives me more options. If I go on holidays or have to be away from my residence for a while, I can take the phone and the Wi-Fi router with me.
The phone itself id large and has a stand or it can be mounted on a wall or such. I have it mounted over my work desk as there was no room on the desk.
All maintenance is done automatically over night, so you have nothing to do. (If you are a tech wizard like myself then you can do entries, etc. and change Wi-Fi networks, but the normal user doesn't need to do this as Konnekt doers it all for you, including any upgrades of the software.
To me it’s more important than my computers, as I can speak directly to people instead of having to rely on e-mails being replied to.
I do have the handset as well, but for most calls I use the external speaker, but it does enable private calls (at least what is being said to be can't be heard.)
9.9 out of 10.

Hi Garry,
Sorry for my slow reply, I very much appreciate your detailed review.
I'm glad to hear that the Konnekt Captioning Videophone is working out so well for you.
We have recently improved the captioning so that it's even faster, more accurate, extremely reliable, and now there's no start-up delay whatsoever.
Thanks for your kind words!

The team was fantastic in providing…

The team was fantastic in providing support to set up the videophone to meet our requirements. They went above and beyond to ensure that the videophone worked effectively. Videophone interface is uncluttered and simple to use and very useful for family to check in. However some dementia sufferers may require lots of practice, assistance or simple written instructions to make a call.

Hi Wendy,
Thanks for your review!
For other people reading this review: Konnekt has many features and accessories to help customers (end users) who live with dementia, including:
- Auto-answer for selected trusted contacts that you nominate. This feature has helped save 3 lives.
- Simplification: Konnekt can hide the HANG UP / DECLINE CALL and/or END CALL buttons, for people who just want to press that red button.
- Disable volume and power: Konnekt disables the volume buttons along the side, hides (does not display) the on-screen volume controls, and can even disable the external power button!
- Remote volume control: Konnekt provides simple 3-character commands for carers/contacts to remotely change the microphone sensitivity and volume. Important if the Konnekt user has fallen in a nearby room, and you are straining to talk to each other (after the Konnekt Videophone has answered automatically).
- 0 to 40 call buttons: We can hide all or some of the contacts, to simplify the screen or to prevent the user from wanting to call them all the time.
- Night mode: Many options. We can make the screen go blank but leave it operational, for people who sleep in the same room as their Videophone. At the other extreme, we can disable it during a programmed night time (e.g. 8pm to 8am).
- Power outlet cover: We can recommend a cover for the power outlet so that the user won't unplug it, and to help ensure that the cleaner won't disconnect it either.
- Wall-mount brackets, desktop stands, ceiling brackets, monitor stands and side tables. Konnekt can supply or recommend an option to keep the Videophone within reach, enable it to swing / pan / tilt to face the user. Useful for bed-ridden or chair-bound people, and for those who might be rough or angry with appliances!
- Faces on buttons: We can add (and allow each Contact to add) their own photo, so that the dementia patient is assisted in remember "who is who". This is extremely useful! It helps preserve the connection between face, name, and relationship. E.g., "Bob my son" can be the name on the "Bob" call button, together with a photo of Bob's face.
- Outbound only or Inbound only: If a relative of the Videophone user has dementia, we can block incoming calls from that person. If the Videophone user has dementia and calls an overseas relative constantly when it's 3am there, we can hide that overseas person's call button either permanently or (with conditions) during a specific range of hours.
- Do Not Disturb mode: We help relatives get their Skype or their Smartphones set up so that at night, they won't be disturbed by Skype calls from a Videophone user who has woken up and decided to call people.
Or we can simply disable the Videophone at night (see above).
- BIG screen: Research studies show that only a life-size video call (on a 15-inch or 20-inch screen or bigger) feels like a face-to-face in-person conversation. Smaller devices, during video calls, don't fool the subconscious part of the brain, and there is less benefit, in terms of reducing social isolation. So, having a big screen is an advantage.
- NOT portable: People with dementia lose, misplace, drop, breack, and forget about their portable gadgets. Konnekt deliberately developed a BIG product that is not portable (just like an old-school landline telephone). It's always where the user expects to find it. Usually, in front of their favourite chair and just to one side, with the camera looking up into their face.
- Locked down: Konnekt Videophone has a socket for a Kensington-style lock to help prevent theft or movement.
- Tied down: Konnekt supplies a desktop adhesive clamp that solidly sticks down the rear kickstand to prevent accidental movement.

There are many more features to help people with dementia and other needs including vision, hearing, dexterity and mobility.

Thanks for your review and kind words!
- John.

Konnekt Experience is Wonderful.

All of the people have been extremely helpful and professional. They go above and beyond to help and support the person using the Konnekt video machine and family/friends learning to connect through it. From my first expression of interest email, which was answered in minutes, to follow support I have nothing but praise for the team and for this amazing technology. My 100yr old mother-in-law loves it as not only can she see family and friends, she can hear them better because of the special external speaker they supplied, but in particular the captioning means that she can read what was said if she misses something.

Hi Kathy,
It's always a pleasure to hear how our Captioning Videophone is helping reconnect people to the community.
We have people using it from 30s, some at their work, all the way to 107 years old, with many in the 70-90 age bracket which is where most age-related hearing loss occurs.
We continue to find ways of making it incredibly easy to use, and that of course includes our on-going support.
Thanks for your kind words!

Konnekt is the most brilliant System for communications for the elderly

Konnekt system has taken away so much angst and fear in not being able to communicate with my elderly Parents. My Mum is 86 and refuses to learn any new technology, Her fear of stuffing it up, or getting cold calls from scammers etc is very real for her. The Knnekt system allowed us to have a closed invited only list of callers and that was brilliant. Also the captions were pretty good and because mum is severely hearing impaired she still could communicate quite easily.
Having the Konnekt skype on my phone meant i could call and receive calls anytime and anyplace. Great peace of mind for me and mum. I could share instant moments with mum from where ever i was. I could connect with mums carers and visitors. She even would call me and then answer the door, so i could hear what was happening. A good security benefit. with the auto answer, even better because i could scan mums lounge room to see if she had fallen or hear if she was calling out in another room. she has a very small home. Mum actually grasped how to work the system, because it one touch, phone list would come up. one touch on the screen and great the call would go through. also the screen and lettering is very clear and you can get a sound booster speaker and hand set too if needed.
A great system i recommend every person living on their own or wanting to age in their own home to get this system. Also a great way to keep in contact with my Dad who was in a nursing home until he passed away very recently. Dealing with the set up crew and accounts and staff was always a pleasure and all things can and will be resolved. Just love the whole concept. well done konnekt team

Amazing Product, awesome support staff

I would like to say that the Konnekt device was wonderful for my Mum, the Staff at the Aged Care Home, and the family. Mum had Dementia but Nursing staff could easily call a family member to help settle Mum as required. It enabled us to comunicate and this extended to the end when Mum was unable to answer the Konnekt but family could call in to see if Mum was sleeping or wandering around. If she was wandering, I could go up and spend time with her while she was awake which I now cherish. She had many falls so this extra time with her when she was wandering also meant that she had extra one-to-one attention which could have avoided a tragedy such as a broken hip from a fall. Now, in hindsight after Mum has passed, I can't help but feel the Konnekt device was instrumental in ensuring Mum did not suffer as much as she might have and was able to pass peacefully into God's care, as she would have wanted to.
The support staff were amazing, always prompt to make a change if required, and always super helpful to assist family members (who were not very tech savvy) to make sure they could enjoy using Konnekt t o communicate with Mum.

Great device for the elderly

After convincing our elderly mother it would enhance her well being and it was easy to use, we purchased a Konnekt device and set it up in her high care residential room. She found it easy to use (easier than a normal phone) once it was set up using a tv monitor stand. She found it beneficial to be able to see and hear her family regularly. She used it through the Covid 19 lockdowns that occurred. The service provided by Konnekt was of a high standard, fixing small problems like when up dates were run quickly. The most common problems occurred due to the nursing home internet system updates. A great device highly recommended for the elderly mum was still using it at 100 years of age.

Hi Keith,
I'm really pleased to hear that your Konnekt Videophone helped your mum stay in touch (see and hear) family.
We have Videophones on trolleys, over-bed tables, wall brackets, monitor stands, fold-out arms, and even on ceiling mounts!
Many care homes provide Wi-Fi Internet for residents, and it's well known that some use captive portals (browser-based login) with "interesting" requirements -- e.g. for the resident to re-login manually every month! This year we're introducing a tool that helps manage such requirements, to mitigate the burden on family/carers/staff.

Thanks for your kind words.

Konnekt system is great for everyone

The support from Konnekt is prompt, polite and helpful. Some elderly people may need help to set up the system. Once it is set up, it's so easy to use and we love the big screen.
Skype needs to come to the party and make it a better video experience for the person called by the Konnekt system.

Hi Rina,
Sorry for my slow reponse. I've been replying to our many reviews on Google and social media but I forgot to check Trustpilot, which I value for its trust and acceptance.
Konnekt pre-configures the Videophone, provides assistance during setup, and optional on-site installation in many locations.
You'll be happy to hear that the video experience is being improved. In addition, Konnekt now offers group calling at the touch of a button -- so that a FAMILY button can call multiple relatives/friends at the same time, without further actions.
Thanks for your kind words.

Love, love, love Konnekt Videophone

My mother who is 91 and quite deaf lives in Canberra and I live in Qld. She does quite well face to face with hearing aids but can't understand anything over the phone no matter how loud it is, as the sounds are muffled. She needs captions. After months of frustration waiting for the TTY system which turned out to be very impersonal and difficult for my mother to use, I found out about the Konnekt Videophone. We had lots of delays due to the Coronavirus but she now has the phone and it's fantastic! It's extremely easy for Mum to use and we can talk whenever we want and even see each other. She keeps saying it's a miracle. She was feeling very isolated as she lives alone and no one was game to visit her because of the virus and even when she went for her walk the streets were deserted. She is so happy now feeling connected to all the family again.
I can't believe the other review was complaining about Konnekt personnel. I've had many dealings with them over the past few months and every person has been very friendly and extremely helpful. I can't praise them enough and highly recommend Konnekt Videophone.

Hi Carin,
Thanks for your kind words. I'm really pleased to hear that your mother calls it a miracle!
Whenever I experience the subtitles, particularly with rapid speech, I also think it's a miracle.
For our other readers: Captioning Videophone is relatively new but it is quite unique. It is based on the successful Konnekt Videophone but adds captions (voice-to-text) for those with profound or severe hearing loss, or deafness.
We have stock arriving next week (late May 2020) and we've been hiring and automating to keep up with demand.
We enjoy what we do at Konnekt.

Hi Jessica,
We do not have a Jessica Hinds in our customer list or prospective customer list.
We do not cold call. We do not even warm call. All our customers come to us through web or word-of-mouth.
I see that you have 3 reviews in total on this site, all within the last 2 hours, and your previous review also tells a story of someone getting angry at you?
My colleagues do not cold call and would not be capable of yelling at an attacking lion, let alone a customer.
I think you have the wrong Konnekt / Konnect / Konneckt. In Australia, there are at least 5 companies with similar spellings. There are many more overseas.
What kind of product or service are you after? You do not state that in your review? Perhaps I can help connect you with the correct Konnect?
If you truly believe it to have been one of our company employees or one of our overseas partners, please call us or write to us and report it to the company, so that we can do something about it for you.

Best Regards,

Konnekt -- the Australian company that makes Videophones for those with a disability, dementia, hearing loss or mobility/dexterity limitations.

Great Idea, Great Product!

We bought this videophone for my elderly mother who lives in a small town because we don’t get to see her often as we live interstate. It is so perfect for her because it is SO easy to use. She struggles with an iPad and has no computer skills at all, and even she can use it! All she has to do is touch my name on the screen and it will ring my skype address first so we can chat face-to-face and if I don’t answer there, it will ring my mobile, then if I don’t answer there it will ring my home phone. We are always in contact!
Not to mention the kids love seeing their grandma more often and showing her their toys or their ballet moves!!
Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to keep in better contact with their elderly mum or dad.

Hi Gabby,
I appreciate your review. Sorry for my slow response (8 years!) ...we have been answering Google and social media reviews quickly but I neglected to reply to our first few Trustpilot reviews.
Since 2016, there have been MANY improvements to the Konnekt Videophone hardware, software, reliability and ease-of-use. In addition, we've added optional captioning for people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. We now offer it almost worldwide, and in many countries, government assistance is available.
Like your mother, many people start by trying an iPad or tablet, but find that it just isn't easy enough, and requires frequent attention. The Konnekt is designed to be trouble-free, and is fully supported by Konnekt without the need for any visits.
Thanks for your kind words!
Best Regards,
