BUYER BEWARE — My Experience with Koons Has Been an Absolute Nightmare…
I’ve purchased many cars over the years and never—never—have I experienced anything like this. I expected professionalism and fair treatment, especially from a large dealership such as Koons.
What I got was a complete disaster: poor communication, safety concerns, missing paperwork, and zero accountability.
Here’s what happened:
1. Dangerously Worn Tires
Within days, my mechanic said the car barely passed inspection. I spent over $1,000 on new tires. Koons sold me a car that wasn’t roadworthy.
2. Infotainment System Not Reset
Still tied to the previous owner. Two months later, I still can’t access HondaLink. This should’ve been handled before delivery.
3. Smoke Odor Poorly Treated
They claimed to professionally deodorize the car while I signed papers. The smell returned in days and hasn’t gone away.
4. One Key Fob – Told to “Lie”
I was given one key. When I asked about the second, the Sales Rep and Finance Manager suggested I file a false warranty claim saying I “lost” it.
5. License Plates Delayed
My temp tags expired. WV DMV said they never received the title. I called Koons—only then did they submit it. Had I not followed up, I’d have been driving illegally.
6. Undisclosed Auction Car
Only after the sale did I learn the car came from auction. Not a dealbreaker, but should’ve been disclosed.
7. Extended Warranty Never Filed
I paid for a warranty but was told by Assurant they had no record of my contract. Koons admitted it was likely an “oversight” and promised a call back. No one followed up. Still no warranty!
I’ve emailed both my Sales Rep and the General Manager—no response. The lack of basic professionalism is shocking.
I’m filing formal complaints with:
• VA Attorney General
• CFPB
• DMV
• FTC
Koons may be a big-name dealership, but based on this, they’ve acted like a fly-by-night operation. No customer service. No follow-through. No trust.
Avoid this place.
