Title: A long, stressful experience buying our Shepherds Hut
We purchased a Herdwick Shepherds Hut from Laing Timber Products in late August 2025, initially impressed by the craftsmanship and display models. Unfortunately, what started with great excitement turned into one of the most frustrating customer experiences we’ve ever had.
After paying over £36,000 in total, the delivery in December 2025 went badly wrong. The transport arranged by Laing’s couldn’t access the paddock, causing visible damage to the hut and leaving it in the wrong position. Many promised items and fittings were missing — including wheels, steps, guttering, sink, door, and basic interior fixtures — with no explanation or apology. We had to repair fences, hire equipment, and even move the hut ourselves while waiting for communication that rarely came.
Over the following weeks, we repeatedly chased updates and heard countless excuses. George Laing visited to assess the situation and made honest efforts to help, but the process was slow and chaotic. Promised fixes and parts often didn’t arrive, and several visits ended incomplete. Although some work was finally done in February 2026 — including installing a few missing items and connecting electrics — much of it was rushed, mismatched, or unfinished. Even in spring, we continued fixing issues ourselves, including electrical faults and damaged doors.
To be fair, some of Laing’s staff who came to site worked hard and were polite, but the overall project suffered from poor planning, lack of preparation, and inconsistent communication. The whole process was far more stressful and costly than it should ever have been.
We love the idea and design of the Shepherds Hut — it looks great now that we’ve finished what should have been completed on delivery — but sadly, we couldn’t recommend Laing Timber Products based on the experience we had.
